The Most holy body and blood of christ

This Sunday the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). It is an occasion every year to remember especially what a great gift Jesus left us in the Holy Eucharist – the abiding sign of His Redemption and His Presence among us.

Beginning in the Middle Ages, the pelican was an important symbol for Christians of the love, sacrifice, power, and life delivered by our Savior, Jesus Christ. According to legend, in times of famine, the pelican was known to tear at its own breast, draw blood, and feed its young in order that they may have life. Naturally, when these people received news that God, in His great love, had come into the world in human form, shedding His own blood to wash, adopt, and redeem us (Baptism), and to FEED US (Eucharist) so that we may have forgiveness and life, they made a direct connection with what they already had seen in the pelican. Our God is truly an awesome God!

Este domingo la Iglesia celebra

la solemnidad del Santísimo Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo

(Corpus Christi). Cada año es una ocasión para recordar

especialmente el gran don que Jesús nos dejó en la Santa

Eucaristía, signo permanente de su redención y su presencia

entre nosotros.

A partir de la Edad Media, el pelícano fue un símbolo

importante para los cristianos del amor, sacrificio, poder y

vida impartido por nuestro Salvador Jesucristo.

Según la leyenda, en tiempos

de hambruna, se sabía que el

pelícano se rasgaba en su

propio pecho, sacaba sangre y

alimentaba a sus crías para

que pudieran tener vida.

Naturalmente, cuando estas

personas recibieron la noticia de que Dios, en

su gran amor, había venido al mundo en forma

humana, derramando su propia sangre para

lavarnos, adoptarnos y redimirnos (bautismo), y

para alimentarnos (eucaristía) para que

pudiéramos tener perdón y vida, hicieron una

conexión directa con lo que ya habían visto en

el pelícano. ¡Nuestro Dios es verdaderamente

un Dios increíble!

En aquellos días, Moisés bajó del mon-te Sinaí y refirió al pueblo todo lo que el Señor le había dicho y los manda-mientos que le había dado. Second Reading │ A reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews (9: 11-15)

Brothers and sisters: When Christ came as high priest of the good things that have come to be, passing through the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made by hands, that is, not belonging to this creation, he entered once for all into the sanctuary, not with the blood of goats and calves but with his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls and the sprinkling of a heifer's ashes can sanctify those who are defiled so that their flesh is cleansed, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works to worship the living God. For this reason he is mediator of a new covenant: since a death has taken place for deliverance from transgressions under the first covenant, those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance. WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND HOW MANY ARE IN YOUR FAMILY? I am from Cedar Rapids, IA. I come from a family of 5 people. I have two older brothers Mitch (29) and Carter (27) plus my mom, Amy, and my Dad, Doug. My brother Mitch is now married and Carter will be married this July. WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO JOIN THE SEMINARY? Ultimately, the prompting of the Holy Spirit. But the main factors that contributed to me entering seminary were: invitations from priests and laypeople, daily prayer, a love for Jesus and bringing others to him, and finally visiting the seminary and seeing that I could find joy in this life. WHAT IS THE MOST SPECIAL MEMORY FROM YOUR DEACONATE ORDINATION? I experienced very profoundly God’s generosity to me and His love for me. First, through

receiving the Holy Spirit and being made a Deacon which no one could ever deserve or earn. Second, through the love and support of all gathered at the Mass and those praying for me on livestream. It was overwhelming that “with a brother’s kindness” He calls men to share in His sacred ministry. RANDOM FACT ABOUT YOURSELF I am the only male in my family that does not work for State Farm. THE 4 PILLARS OF CATHOLICISM Now is the time to register for our summer education program, taught by Deacon Ben Valentine. We will explore our Catholic faith through the lens of the Creed, the Sacraments, prayer, and Christian Living. If

you or someone you know would like to receive the Sacrament to Confirmation, this program can suffice for that preparation. Classes begin Tuesday June 29th at 5:15 in English and 6:45 in Spanish. TALLER DE LIBERTAD FINANCIERA El tema para este jueves, de 6 a 7 PM en el sótano de Santa María, es acerca préstamos hipotecarios para vivienda. ¡Será de mucho provecho para todos los participantes! No se se pierda esta oportunidad. Es completamente gratis, y hay cuidado de niños.

PLÁTICA BAUTISMAL La próxima clase bautismal está programada para el domingo, 13 de junio, de 3 a 5:30 PM en Santa María. Hay
