Vrutham - 26th Jun, 2013, 9 AM The first preliminary function of our FTW, this involves propitiating the various Gods – Indra, Soma, Chandra, Agni. After this, the groom prepares himself for a new chapter in his life as a householder or Grihasta. The days of his bachelorhood or brahmacharya are now over and the acceptance of this is all what the Vratham is about.

The bride and groom exchange garlands thrice to symbolize a unification of souls. Throughout this process, they are often teased by their relatives. For instance, the relatives may pull the bride away when the groom reaches forward to place a garland on her, and vice versa. The bride’s and the groom’s uncles and friends may hoist them into the air, making it a greater challenge to exchange garlands.
