Day 1: MANALI (1950m)Pick up at Manali & check into a hotel for the night.

This day is spent acclimatizing to the altitude

A major hill station resort of the country

set on the foot of the mighty Rohtang Pass.

There are lovely walks and interesting spots

nearby. The Superb Naggar castle once the

seat of the Kullu Royal Family , now hosts

an art gallery and a small Temple. Pursue the

activity of your choice, be it rafting,

paragliding, or simple sightseeing & relaxing

at Manali.

Day 2: MANALI- CHANDRATAL (4300m) 107 KMSDrive from Manali to Chandratal. Spend this day & the

next at the famed ‘Moon Lake’ at your own camp.

Day 3: CHANDRATAL (4300m)

One of the most classically beautiful of

all Himalayan lakes is the Chandratal in

Lahaul's upper Chandra valley. Aptly

called the lake of the moon, it lies in a

broad turquoise crescent along the flank

of the Great Himalaya range itself,

surrounded by the high peaks of the

Chandrabhaga and the Mulkila massifs.

Situated at a breathtaking 15500 feet

above sea level, the lake itself was

probably formed at the end of the last

ice age when the glaciers retreated,

leaving behind considerable dead ice

masses, which on melting formed large

lakes.

Day 4: CHANDRATAL-KAZA (3600m) 117kms

The town of Kaza is the sub-divisional head of the Spiti region.

A quaint liitle town on the roof of the world, it boasts having great

internet connectivity & interesting little restaurants. It makes an ideal

spot to rest & see the neighbouring monasteries of Ki, Kibber & Tabo. Night stay at a hotel in Kaza.

Day 5 : KAZA- DANKAR– KI- KIBBER- TABO

(3280m)

ABOUT DANKAR

Dankar Gompa (3890 M) was built in the

12th century. This hill top fort still

dominates the Spiti Landscape. It houses

more than 160 Lamas. Buddhist scriptures in

Bhoti language and a statue of Dhyan Buddha

consisting of four complete figures seated

back to back is the main attraction of this

striking monastery

ABOUT KI

The Ki monastery is said to be have been

founded by Dromton, the founder of Ge-lug-

pa sect in the 11th century, it has a fabulous

collection of ancient tankhas. A description

of this monastery by a visiting scholar " the

airiness of these highest roofs, the isolation

from the hugger-mugger village below, the

black yak's tail and the bronze statues and

the extravagant prayer flags, all these makes

one feel that God cannot be far away".

ABOUT KIBBER: Known as the highest village in the world Kibber

Sanctuary is the only sanctuary in the country which is situated in the

cold desert area and covers about 1400 sq km. Wildlife species include

blue sheep and ibex. Panoramic views of Shilla Peak and Parang La Pass

are the added features. Drive to Tabo & spend the night here.

Day 6: TABO-NAKO-RECKONGPEO (2670m) 158kms

The Tabo Gompa, or Buddhist monastery,

is second in importance only to the Tholing

Gompa in Tibet in the entire Himalayan

region. It was developed as an advanced

centre for learning by the great teacher

and translator Lotsawa Rinchen Tsang Po,

the king of western Himalayan Kingdom of

Guge -- also known as Lha Lama Yeshe O'd

or Mahaguru Ratnabhadra. To date, it is the

preserver of the Buddhist Legacy and is one of

the most important Gompa of the entire Tibetan

Buddhist world

The monastery temples house a priceless

collection of manuscripts and thangkas

(Buddhist scroll paintings), historical, exquisite

statues in stuccos, frescos and murals depicting

tales from the Mahayana Buddhist Pantheon.

Every inch of wall is covered with fine paintings

in astonishingly well preserved condition.

The temple complex is a national historic

treasure of India and protected as such by the

Archaeological Survey of India. Night stay at Peo.

Day 7: RECKONG PEO- SHIMLA (2250m)

Shimla has been blessed with all the

natural bounties, one can think of.

Dwelling on a panoramic location, the hilly

town is surrounded by green pastures and

snow-capped peaks. The spectacular cool

hills accompanied by the structures made

during the colonial era create an aura,

which is very different from other hill

stations. Bulging at its seams with

unprecedented expansion, Shimla retains

its colonial heritage, with grand old

buildings, among them are the stately

Viceregal Lodge, Charming iron lamp posts

and Anglo-Saxon names. The Mall, packed

with shops and eateries, is the centre of

attraction of the town, and Scandal Point,

associated with the former Maharaja of

Patiala's escapades, offers a view of

distant snow clad peaks.
