THE MONTH OF MARCH PASTOR’S ARTICLE
Pastor Francis L. Schroeder Holy Cross Lutheran—Nederland
“SIR, YOU HAVE SOME DIRT ON YOUR HEAD”
One of my fellow pastors just completed his first trip to the Holy Land. He checked in to a hotel and in the morning looked out his balcony and saw the beautiful sunrise on the Sea of Galilee. He shared it on FACEBOOK and I was truly amazed at the glory of that image. Later that day he would have the opportunity to walk in the very places our Savior walked.
For those of us firmly entrenched in the USA we need to know and appreciate what God gives us each day. Every morning of life brings blessings and challenges as we walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. Despite the mistakes we made the day before, choices that we now regret, and head-aches we have endured, God is always gracious and mer-ciful to us. The dawning of a new day and the glowing rays of the sun reminds us of His faithfulness and the new start each day brings.
Each new day the Lord gives to us — whether along the shores of the Sea of Galilee or on the sidewalks of your street — will always be an expression of His faithfulness and opportunities to live for Him.
May your daily walk with the LORD provide you with joy, peace, and strength.
Blessed March to you!
Pastor Francis L. Schroeder

LWML Circles
A circle is a group of women who meet once a month for Bible Study, fellowship, to give their
Mites, and learn about the new and exciting things
that are going on with the LWML.
We have 2 Circles at Holy Cross. Each Circle meets at a different time of the month, so that hopefully, each woman can find one
that works best for her.
These Circles are:
1. Women’s Small Group Bible Study—meets the 3rd Thursday at 2:30pm.
2. Women’s Quilting Circle meets Thursdays at 9:30 am in the conference Room. Lutheran Women’s Mis-sionary League of Holy Cross is a “Society” and meets 2nd Tuesday each month at 6pm.
Watch for the unveiling of the beautiful
“Grapes of Life”
donation quilt to be raffled off. The monies received
from the raffle will be used to ship the other quilts that are
made to Lutheran World Relief. Tickets will be on sell in the nar-thex or see Rosie Herring. Tick-ets: $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00.
Your Trash IS Cash …… for aiding in the cost of shipping all those health kits to areas of need. June 29, 2012, we reported $14,000 was collected from all those stamps. Today, February 19,
2015, I am telling you that we are now over $24,000. That is $10,000 just for stamps that would have been cash. I’m also ex-cited that later this year we’ll have the “Stamp Lady” herself to
tell you everything and answer all those questions, on how “trash can be cash”. So, be on the look out for that date. And, keep them coming—every stamp counts. If you just have “1” we’ll take it. Just like those mites, they add up to do wonderful
things. Grateful to receive your stamps, your Holy Cross LWML, Sharon Teinert and Judy Alvarez.

Holy Cross Lutheran Church is
"“Growing In Christ" and we have a place for everyone in your family.
The material we will be using for
Sunday morning children's classes is called "“Growing in Christ."
Growing in Christ is a traditional
classroom Sunday School for all ages. This same-age classroom model helps students
learn and grow in faith alongside their peers as they explore the Bible, draw connections
to the Small Catechism, and learn the traditions of the Lutheran Church.

Can We Invite Friends to Church/Youth Events?
This question is asked just about every time we have a special event for youth or adults
and I often wonder why? Luke 14:23 says, "Then the master told his servant, Go out to the
roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full.”
So, can we invite friends, family, neighbors to functions, events, worship, Bible studies and youth or adult events at Holy Cross?
The answer is —YES!
In fact I believe, we should always, always, always be inviting someone to join
us for everything we participate in at Holy Cross: Worship Services, Bible Study, Confirmation, Youth Events, Adult Fellowship Events, potluck dinners.
If our doors are open, then we should…
ALWAYS INVITE A FRIEND!

CIRCUIT 34 MISSION COUNCIL NEWS
We continue to move toward our goal of establishing a new Hispanic congregation in Port Arthur. Pastor Casillas comes to our area for ESL classes each Wednesday. He is present at the Thrift Store on Saturday to make contact with those who come there to shop. Sunday morning worship is held each week at Trinity at 9:00 AM. The tentative name of the new congregation is La Trinidad. They are in the process of identifying members who could
serve as officers of the congregation, so the group could apply to the Texas District for a charter. In addition to the Pastor, they would need a president, a secretary and a treasurer.
We are in need of a bi-lingual teacher! Rosie Cabrera, a member at Trinity, teaches an ESL Bible study each Tuesday from 9 AM to 10 AM. She teaches simple Bible stories using Sunday School lessons and some Arch Books. Rosie is moving away in December, so we need someone who could work with this group. If you can help, please con-tact Pastor Tim Dinger at 409-983-1130 or [email protected].
We thank the Texas District Lutheran Women's Missionary League for their gift to the Hispan-ic Mission. They have allotted $7700 for our mission. The November issue of The Lutheran
Witness has an excellent article about our work to establish this new congregation.
As always, remember The Thrift Store at Trinity. It is open Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM. They always need help at the store. Please consider giving a few hours of your time to serve in this way. The Thrift Store sells any kind of items: clothing, household furnishings, dishes, tools, etc. Be sure all your unwanted
items go to the Thrift Store. Proceeds from the store fund the ESL program at Trinity. Please pray for the success of our mission outreach and consider how you and your congregation can help with this
kingdom work.
To our Thrivent Financial Members Have you allocated your 2014 choice dollars? Remember, you have to do this annually for these to go to
Holy Cross or the charity you chose. The deadline to allocate you choice dollars for last year is March, 2015.
If you have any questions about Thrivent Choice Dollars, the new Action Teams program,
or how Thrivent Financial can help you with your life insurance, retirement or investment needs.
Please call your representative or contact me and I will be happy to help with any questions you may have.
Thank you,

BIBLE SMUGGLING EXPERIENCE
Date: Fall 2015
All ages are encouraged to join us for a fun, exhilarating and challenging Bible Smuggling Experience you will NOT want to miss!
What is the Bible Smuggling Experience? It’s an EXPERIENCE that will simulate what
it is like for the real people who risk their lives every day to be Christians (ie: smuggle Bibles) into countries where being a Christian is illegal.
Students from Kindergarten through 12th Grade will form teams. Adult “tour guides” will take them through 10-12 different countries (which will be set-up throughout our church
grounds - both indoors and outdoors) while trying to "smuggle" Bibles. Border Patrol will be on the prowl too. The team with the most Bibles at the end of the game, wins!
Some countries are open countries where being a Christian is a freedom. But others are considered "closed" countries that have laws prohibiting even possession of a Bible or even
the admittance of being a Christian. Some countries may search and interrogate while others may encourage the sharing of the Gospel.
Our hope is to also have a Missionary here to speak on the
Sunday immediately after the Saturday event (during Worship).
HELP NEEDED While this event will not take place until the Fall of 2015, our initial planning meetings to prepare for this experience will take place in April. Because of the delicacy of this topic we would like for
families and individuals to have the summer to research their country (closed countries will receive a book with details and history) and make preparations so this experience can be a life-changing
experience for all.
We are looking for families and individuals who would sponsor certain countries. More details will be coming soon, but if you are interested in sponsoring
a certain country, please contact DCE Kristy Witek.
Countries Germany (free), Philippines, China, Columbia, Iran, Egypt, India,
Italy (free), Vietnam, England (free), North Korea, Sudan
We will also be in need of Adult Tour Guides, Registration Team, Border Guards, “behind the scenes” crew and more.
Contact DCE Kristy at [email protected] for more info!
