Slide 2 The Money Issue Erick Vespestad Slide 3 The Conflict Commuting students are commuting to save money University has very little money to maintain free commuter lot There is a conflict of interest Slide 4 From the Universitys Perspective Cost of commuter lot maintenance is $310,000 annually Contributed by three different departments Iowa State Center The Athletic Department Department of Public Safety(DPS) parking division DPS contributes an additional $260,000 annually to subsidize the Orange Route Slide 5 From the Universitys Perspective Very little tuition money is used for the commuter lot No revenue is produced through the commuter lot Money is needed to maintain Cyrides Orange Route Cyride is rated number 1 in small transit bus systems Slide 6 From the Students Perspective Paying commuter lot parking is contrary to what the parking division stands for It is counter productive to commuters purpose of commuting Average debt of graduating senior is $27,000 Limited space for students that dont want to pay for parking Attempting to force commuting students to pay for parking creates more problems than it creates Slide 7 Mediation Have students pay a minimal fee of $25 per semester This would generate $300,000 dollars annually for mantainence In addition, raise prices on parking tickets on campus This may not make students happy, but we have a responsibility to the Ames community in which we live Slide 8 Works Cited Wolthuizen, Jesa.
