Building History:

The Molson’s Bank building was constructed in 1912 of Indiana limestone in traditional Beaux-Arts style featuring four fluted columns between the end bays in-antis. Hand carved features decorate the limestone including lions’ heads around the attic, elaborate cornice with dentils and carved pediments above the doors and main floor windows.

From 1955 to 1967, the building served as the main Calgary branch of the Toronto Dominion Bank and remained as an operational bank until 1993. Upon the building’s sale, the main floor was retrofitted to accommodate James Joyce Irish Pub while maintaining the building’s integrity and style.

In 1979, The Molson’s Bank building was designated a Provincial Historic Resource.
