The Mission Circle would like to thank everyone for your contribu- tions and support. Thanks to you, we are sponsoring at least 200 wom- en in a micro-loan program that will help them gain financial independ- ence. Thanks to you, we distributed 800 pounds of donations to our sis- ter parish and funded some projects including replacing a water pump that had been broken for months. Thanks to St. Peter School, we deliv- ered hundreds of cards to children in our sister parish. So what's left, you ask? Please pray for our sister parish, continue contributing to the Women's Project (it starts in December and we can still add women to the first round of loans), donate used but working computers for the bilingual school starting in February (If you have used computers or want more information about teaching in Honduras, please call 386-736-2211.), and buy some of the special items we are selling in the back of church after Mass. All profits go to projects for Our Lady of the Rosary.

In gratitude for all that God has given us, we joyfully share from our treasure:

REGULAR COLLECTION: $ 17,102.38 ENHANCEMENT FUND: $1,751.22

In the passage from the Book of Proverbs, Wisdom encourages the people to forsake foolishness and partake in the food and drink that God has “mixed.” This foretells today’s Gospel account where St. John continues to develop the theology of Jesus’ sacrifice of Himself and His institution of the Eucharist as the true source of strength and unity for the Christian community. Christian stewards strive to become one with the Lord by regularly partaking in His Eucharistic banquet. This strengthens us to embrace stewardship as a way of life and to share our abundant blessings with our parish communion and the needy. St. Paul reminds us to do this in gratitude to God through Christ.

It is different on the other side of the table. I found that out the other week. I felt out of sorts. I didn’t think it would matter but it did; it wasn’t like I hadn’t been at similar places, but now I was on the other side of the table. I ate dinner at the Methodist kitchen. The line was long, winding around the parking lot. I joined them. I felt uncomfortable. Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea. I glanced around trying to pick out the homeless from the near homeless. Some needed a bath, others a change of clothes, while others probably just a bite to eat and some needed all three. I must have stuck out; I should have changed my clothes. Who wears black trousers in the summer other than an undertaker? I got my ticket and got on line for the meal. What if I don’t like what they are serving? Don’t worry I reassured myself, you can always head to McDonald’s. An option they didn’t have. I was in luck – meatloaf and it was quite good. Scanning the hall I found a table that looked agreeable. Surprisingly for a large crowd it was fairly quiet. Many concentrated on their food, eating with their heads down and saying little. Others, the regulars I imagined, seemed quite at home. Sitting next to me on top of the table was a one year old toddler who nearly fell onto my lap. For a little one she had a hearty appetite. A few of the diners did recognize me and I quickly said hello. One offered to let me cut the line. No thanks. Like Clark Kent I wanted to keep my identity secret. I wanted no special treatment. Still hungry I was tempted to get seconds but decided to let those in need have that option. I have food in my fridge back home.

I left thankful, grateful for all the volunteers who cheerfully and without recognition feed the hungry. It is one of the few projects that so many churches join forces to make a difference. I also realized it is easier being the one who gives than the one receiving. It is tough on one’s pride and esteem. You are dependent on others. I felt inadequate. I much rather be in control. As eye opening as it was to eat at the soup kitchen, I can’t imagine what it must be like to be homeless and sleeping in the woods every night. I don’t think I’m ready for that challenge. I thank all those who in anyway have helped the less fortunate. God bless you.

Love, Fr Tom

MISSION CIRCLE

The Knights Of Columbus will be having their annual glo-ball golf tournament at Indigo Lakes Country Club on Sept. 7. The 4 person team scramble format starts at 5. Play 9 holes and then enjoy an Italian dinner. After dinner we hit the course for glo-ball golf on the back nine- yes, we play in the dark ! The course is lit with color coded light sticks to identify fairways, greens and hazards. We use a glo-ball, of course, so that we can find it ! Glo necklaces are worn by every player for safety. Newcomers are amazed that it is so easy to play golf in the dark. Distances and scores with the glo-ball will be similar to the daytime results. You cannot have more fun on a golf course with your clothes on !!! But wait, then it is time for hot Krispie Kreme donuts and coffee as we share all the hilarious events of the evening and give out the prizes. A complimentary round for another day is donated by Indigo Lakes. $75 per player. Limited to 64 players. We sold out last year- so get your entries in early. Pick up a flyer at the office, contact any Knight or call Fred Weston at 527-3469 . Thanks for supporting the charities of the Knights Of Columbus.

Teamwork! Working together is the way to stewardship success for Rick and Joetta Anthony. According to this dynamic duo, working together for the Lord strengthens a couple’s relationship, as each spouse supports the other in ministry. Currently, Rick and Joetta serve

as Eucharistic Ministers, host a “Why Catholic?” small group, deliver pro-life newspapers to churches and individuals throughout the area, work in the soup kitchen at the Methodist church downtown, and are active in Cursillo and Faith Formation/Religious Ed (RCIA and JAM). Thanks, Rick and Joetta, for your example of spiritual teamwork for the glory of God as you serve His people in our parish and community. “After this the Lord chose another seventy-two and sent them out two by two, to go ahead of him to every town and place where he himself was about to go.” Luke 10:1
