The Mingo tribe lived in New York state. But some got forced to live in Oklahoma or Canada.

The village lived in longhouses which are large wood framed buildings covered with sheets of elm bark.

Today they speak English. Seneca is a complex language with many sounds unlike the sounds in English.

The men wore breech clothes with leggings. Women wore wraparound skirts with shorter leggings.

They used canoes for fishing trips. They used dogs as pack animals. there were no horses in North America.

Most kids like going hunting, fishing with their fathers. They play with each other, go to school, and help around the house.

They made arts and crafts. They were known for their false face masks. Which are considered sacred art form that outsiders are still not permitted to view many of these masks.

The hunters used bows and arrows. Fishermen used spear and fishing poles of fought with clubs, spears, and stone axes.

Most of the people were farmers. Women planted crops of corn, beans, squash, and harvested wild berries, and herbs.

The Seneca tribe was organized by the nation had a tribal council chosen by the Seneca Clan mothers. Eight Seneca chiefs represented their tribes interests in the Iroquois council.
