The Milford Lutheran The Voice of Christ Lutheran Church
“My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.”
Volume 26 Issue 7 July 2019
I wanted to write an article on prayer for our July Newsletter. When I sat down to write, my mind went blank. I had lots to say, but no words to say it. As a preacher, words are my currency. They are my craft. To be at a loss would seem to be a huge issue. Sitting and staring at a blank page feels like a waste of time. My slavery to the clock of efficiency becomes evident when I want to switch tasks to get something done so that I can feel productive.
But is it the most beneficial thing to simply pass by the blankness? I know that I feel this way about prayer some days. I come before the Lord and the words seem empty. Silence reigns and I wonder if this is the most effective use of my time.
This is a great temptation. That our time in prayer is not “effective”. For those who struggle with prayer let me ask you this. How effective is your conversation with someone you care about? Isn’t it just as important to talk about the little stuff and to just enjoy time together as it is to deal with the issues which arise? No one judges the conversation between a husband and wife as “ineffective” because they sat together in silence enjoying the day. Then why do we treat our conversation with the Lord like this?
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10. Silence in the presence of the Lord in prayer is ok. For one thing, it moves us away from the idea of efficiency in Spirituality. Rather, its serves as a welcome break from the racing of life, letting us sit with the Lover of our soul and enjoy his presence. For not having anything to say, it appears that words have begun to flow. Sometimes prayer is like that too. We need a breath, a break, and then... we can pray. . I hope that you’ll spend some time with your Lord, whether you have a lot to say, or just to enjoy sitting with him. Blessings this summer. Pastor

LWML July 2019 News We are collecting backpacks and filler items for St. Paul’s VBS kids. The backpacks can be any size, but solid colors only. If you would like to
donate items- please see the list of needed items in the Narthex. Please drop off items in the large marked bin located under mailboxes in the storage room downstairs. The deadline to donate items is Sunday July 14th. Thank you very much! Many thanks to all who helped in some way, with our Rummage Sale! Donations were generous and very much appreciated! Proceeds will help fund selected mission needs. The Monday pack-up day, was an amazing example of teamwork. Everyone worked very hard to get items packed up to await a delayed and uncertain pick up date. We were very surprised when an unscheduled truck from Freedom Works arrived just as we finished packing! Truly the Lord works in mysterious ways! Bless you ladies!! Our LWML meetings will reconvene in September. Thank you ladies for all your help throughout the year! Have a safe and relaxing summer! Please remember to keep your mites coming in! The collection of mites enables us to continue support of local and global mission growth! Mites are collected the first Sunday of each month! Thank You & God Bless You

On Aug 28, we will be helping St. Paul Pontiac with their Wednesday evening Bible Study
Churches in the area take turns helping St. Paul church in Pontiac serve a dinner for attendees at their Wednesday night Bible Study sessions. Our next turn is August 28, but it is not too early to mark your calendar. Providing assistance in planning and serving the dinner is important. Call Dan Mallinson at (248) 807-5601 or Bob Peters at (248) 676-8248 if you can help. Supporting these efforts with yellow envelope donations marked "St Paul Pontiac" is also important. Thank you.

Dear Parents,
Our VBS program this year, at Christ Lutheran Church, is
Miraculous Mission, where they will learn about “Sharing God’s
Miraculous Message!” The children will learn that Jesus saves
the world! They’ll look into the Bible, God’s Holy Word, and
explore five Bible accounts where God points us to our Savior,
His Son, Jesus. He was born to live, suffer, die, and rise again
for you, me, and the world!
We will begin each day with the Miraculous Mission Opening in the Sanctuary, where
the kids will meet their fellow teammates and leaders. Here they will sing fun songs, be
introduced to the daily theme, bible story and other key learnings. We will also discuss
our mission project for which we will take a collection every day.
After the opening, the preschool children, those who have not yet finished
Kindergarten, will go to Firefly Early Childhood Site at the White Preschool building,
and enjoy age appropriate Bible stories, games, crafts and play time.
The school age children will move on through a rotation of five sites which include
Observation Station Bible Challenge, Blastoff Games, Galaxy Snacks, Starry Night
Storytelling, and Wonderful Creation Crafts.
For the last half hour, everyone gathers together for the Miraculous Mission Closing
in the Sanctuary where we will review the Key Daily Point, daily theme and sing more
songs. We will also announce the total collected for the mission that day.
Parents of preschool children need to come into the Sanctuary at the end of the
closing to collect their children and sign them out.
On their way out, the children will receive some take home information for the
parents, and a God’s Mission Collectable Tag to help them remember and share what
they have learned with friends and family.
May the Holy Spirit empower many great, exciting things at our Miraculous Mission
Vacation Bible School this summer!
