THE MIDFIELD GROUP MUCH MORE THAN A MEAT PROCESSOR

OUR STORY

The Midfield Group is a multi-faceted meat processing company built on solid farming foundations and embracing the values of life on the land.

It was these core values, an eye for livestock and faith in the fertile farmland of south-west Victoria which prompted Midfield founder Colin McKenna to enter into an arrangement with a local abattoir to process his livestock and offer it for sale in Melbourne in 1975.

This original arrangement proved fruitful and when the opportunity arose to purchase the municipal abattoir in 1988, Colin took a punt on the business.

Fast forward almost 40 years and The Midfield Group has grown to a company with multiple divisions and a major player in the domestic and export market, with beef, lamb, veal, mutton, goat and their by-products traversing Australia and the globe.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR MANAGING DIRECTORAs I sit in here in 2016 it’s hard to believe the growth of The Midfield Group.

From humble beginnings 41 years ago, we are now a company with more than 1500 employees. We export fresh to the world daily, with our products being consumed in more than 90 countries around the world.

We operate in a fluid global market, with market demands and access changing on a daily basis. Our vibrant and progressive sales and marketing team keeps a finger on the pulse of markets around the world, allowing us to grow and strengthen our product base.

We are a diverse operation with a strong and innovative team of employees that are the backbone of our operation. Their attention to detail, devotion and hard work has made it possible for product processed at our Warrnambool plant today to be in Victoria’s capital, Melbourne, tomorrow and on a supermarket shelf anywhere throughout the world the following day.

We now have offices Australia wide and internationally, but the heart of our operation is within Australia’s pristine Great South Coast region. Located on the shores of the roaring Southern Ocean, the fresh country air and lush green pastures of one of Australia’s prime agriculture regions means our prime beef and lamb is of excellent quality.

We continue to remain a 100 per cent Australian, family owned and operated company and look forward to working with you throughout 2016.

As Managing Director, Colin still plays a hands-on role, purchasing and evaluating livestock. The key staff members who have seen the company grow from its early foundations are still here, and the next generation of the McKenna family are playing pivotal roles in the Group’s day-to-day running.

Based in Warrnambool, in the heart of Victoria’s pristine Great South Coast region and one of Australia’s prime dairying regions, The Midfield Group is a self-sufficient organisation with control over its products from paddock to plate. The 100 per cent Australian, family owned and operated organisation is a proud supporter of the region where it is based and is involved in a variety of partner breeding programs with local farmers designed to cement supply and support local industry. This relationship with the farming community and our years of experience mean you can always be assured of quality when you deal with Midfield.

Our processing division is known as Midfield Meat International. Based in Warrnambool, the heart of one of Australia’s prime dairy regions, it boasts multiple internationally recognised, state-of-the-art abattoirs and has one of Australia’s largest capacity meat processing plants on a single shift basis. These processing plants are a hive of activity every day, with dozens of trucks arriving with quality beef and lamb sourced from the lush green pastures of the Great South Coast, destined for the international marketplace.

Our processing division is underpinned by our expansive pastoral operations, which provide an essential support role for our operation and guarantee continuity of supply.

OUR PROCESSING

The Midfield Group grows, processes, packages, purchases and transports a range of beef, lamb, veal, mutton and their by-products throughout the world. We cater for Halal markets by producing a range of chilled and frozen primal cuts, carcasses and associated red and green offals.

Our independent export trading arm trades fresh and frozen beef, lamb, veal, mutton, goat, chicken and offal worldwide, while our domestic trading division distributes beef, lamb, pork, chicken, seafood, offals, trim, game meats and other processed and manufactured meats in Australia.

Our hides and skins are free from tick and brand scars, recognised for their quality and exported worldwide for further processing and the manufacturing of products. We also produce products utilised in cheese making, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, including cancer research.

OUR PADDOCK TO PLATE PHILOSOPHYGuaranteeing the quality of our product is not something we take lightly, which is why our paddock to plate philosophy is such a success. We take a holistic approach to our business and are actively involved in our product’s journey from the farm to the family table.

Our extensive pastoral operations and relationship with those that live on the land allow us to breed excellent stock destined for the global marketplace. Our own properties total more than 18,000 acres and are based in one of Australia’s finest agricultural regions, with the lush green pastures and fresh country air enabling us to produce some of the finest beef and lamb the world has ever seen.

After keeping a keen eye on our stock, feeding them and caring for them, we use our own trucks to transport them from the farm to our processing plant. After processing according to world-class, stringent quality specifications we package on site before our trucks once again carefully transport our product destined for the end user.

OUR QUALITY

We operate within some of the toughest quality assurance frameworks in the world, and we do so with pride.

Our processing plants are Halal accredited. We operate a strictly controlled, government-supervised Muslim slaughter program and a Meat Safety Quality Assurance Program incorporating world-recognised HACCP principles for the production of wholesome products for the global market.

These products are audited by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DAWR) and Aus-Meat. We also operate a NATA accredited laboratory on-site – overseen by qualified microbiologists – and provide our processing staff with intensive training and thorough quality assurance guidelines.

OUR GLOBAL REACH

From humble beginnings and local foundations we are now a company with global reach. We are continually expanding our global markets, distributing produce fresh to the world daily.

We export our range of products to more than 90 countries, including major markets such as the USA, Middle East, Japan, China, Singapore and Russia and more remote locations such as Ulaanbaatar, the Mongolian capital.

Midfield product can be found on a supermarket shelf across the world just 48 hours after being processed at our Warrnambool plant.

To cater for our Halal markets we produce a range of chilled and frozen primal cuts and associated red and green offals, in addition to our range of chilled and frozen carcass products.

We are currently expanding our operations with the construction of a milk processing facility, which will convert local milk to powdered milk and begin exporting to the global marketplace from late 2016. We are a company wit h gl obal reach...
