• The people needed to be consoled because there had been a battle and they had been defeated.

• He is pictured as a shepherd because he brings people closer to God.

What Isaiah preached to the people of Jerusalem

• Prepare in the wilderness a way for God . Let every valley be filled in, every mountain and hill be laid low. Let every cliff become a plain, and the ridges a valley.
