PASTOR’S PARAGRAPHS I want to begin my article with a huge THANK YOUto our church family. Thanks for the gift cards to some of Clara and my favorite restaurants for Pastor Appreciation. Thanks for also for recognizing my 50 years in ministry. I was com- pletely surprised! I appreciate the dedication in the new pictorial directories, the framed mirrored-glass recognition, the video, the special song, and the very kind words expressed. I was embarrassed for you to see some of the old pictures of me. Clara reminded me how young we were when we first started in ministry. As I said that morning, I am unworthy of any recognition or praise. All praise belongs to the Lord who called me into His ministry, equipped, and sustained me all these years! I probably ought to tell you about my knee injury. My left knee that I have been having trouble with, gave way the other day and I almost fell to the floor. My orthopedic tells me that I have either severely strained or torn my MCL. He drew fluid off the knee, injected it with cortisone, and put a brace on it. He tells me it will be a long recovery, which I didnt want to hear. It is better at this writ- ing. Please keep me in your prayers and be patient with me. I am not as quickly mobile as I once was. Our REVIVAL is upon us. I have invited a godly man to preach. An introduc- tion of him is on page 3. Please pray for this week, invite others, and plan to at- tend every service! We (and I mean me first of all) stand in need of a spiritual re- newal. May God choose to visit us with His Holy Spirit and do a great work among us. Thank you for all that you do for the Kingdom. I appreciate all the hard work done for the Family Fun Fest. I have been told that you invited a lot of people to church. Your generous support of mission offerings, backpacks, and shoeboxes is inspiring. You are a great church! Clara and I are so thankful to be a part of you and what God is doing here @ PBC. MISSIONARY OF THE MONTH BILLY NORRIS

International Mission Board

European Peoples

[email protected]

Have you considered the behind-the-scenes work of coordinating medical care for missionaries when

they are sick, have a baby, or have medical questions? Billy Norris and his wife, Sheri, live in Budapest,

Hungary, as serve as medical coordinators for International Mission Board (IMB) missionaries in 36 Euro-

pean countries. From questions about medications to medical emergencies, “we are the first point of con-

tact for all Europe-based IMB missionaries regarding health issues,” Billy shares.

Billy also notes that no two days are alike. They often assist families who come to Budapest to deliver

their child because of the excellent health care offered. It often involves transportation to hospital ap-

pointments up to the delivery. One night, the Norrises received a call that a missionary had gone into la-

bor. “We rushed them to the hospital only to find it closed for the night. We wondered if we would need

to deliver the baby in the hospital parking lot!” Billy recalls. Because of the Norrises’ earlier phone calls,

the delivery staff soon arrived and the mother delivered a healthy baby inside the hospital.

Like you, missionaries walk through challenging medical issues. Who is the best provider? Do I need

a referral to see a specialist, and where is one available? Your giving to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offer-

ing® provides medical coverage for IMB missionaries. From answering questions to getting results trans-

lated into English, Billy is grateful to serve his fellow colleagues. Join in praying for the Norris family in

the United States, for the health of IMB personnel, and for open opportunities to share [the gospel] with

the medical community in Budapest.

Kids’ Praise is for children in grades 1 - 5 every other Sunday morning. Children are dismissed from worship during the offering. RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS (An endeavor of our Women’s Ministry)

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye

have love one to another.” (John 11:35 KJV)

To live out John 13:35, let’s expand the kind acts of friend-ship we already do, working to include all the ladies of the church. Here’s how it works . . . Just think of a lady in the church you would like to encourage. Next, write a note or card or bring a small gift addressed to her. Just leave it on the table in the foyer and she can pick it up or someone will take it to her. You can sign your name or leave it anonymous.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD Our Women on Mission have set a goal of 400 Shoeboxes. We have already received 263. Deadline for shoeboxes is November 11th!

PROPERTIES COMMITTEE UPDATE The new double doors have been installed in the fellow-ship hall and will be painted soon. The church has voted to remodel the two main bath-rooms in the main building. The committee is working to secure the workers to do the work. They expect that one bathroom will be completed at a time so that there will be as little disruption as possible. The church now has possession of the land and build-ings on the east end of our property. Work on the demoli-tion of one structure will begin soon. Plans will be under-way to do some needed work on the block structure very soon.

MEET OUR EVANGELIST Dr. Don Mathis has seventeen years experience in full-time evangelism after serving as a pastor, as Executive Director/Minister of the West Virginia Convention of Southern Bap-tists, and as Director of Pastor-Staff Leadership with Life-Way Christian Resources. He has preached in approximately 750 revival meetings. Mathis served as pastor of Central Baptist, Winchester, 1994-96, during which time the church recorded the highest Sunday School and Worship attendance in its eighty-five year history. Previously, he was pastor for twelve years each of Central Baptist, Corbin and Southside Baptist, Princeton. Both congregations tripled in attendance and membership. The Corbin congregation had more than two thousand addi-tions with average Sunday School attendance increasing from 330 to 945 and Worship growing from 400 to more than a thousand. A native of Christian County, he is married to the former Sharon Daugherty of Ohio County. They have two adult children and three grandchildren. Dr. and Mrs. Mathis reside in Bowling Green, where he is staff evangelist of Eastwood Baptist Church. He attended Murray State University, is a graduate of Austin Peay State University and holds both Master of Divin-ity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville. Also, University of the Cumberlands, Williamsburg, honored him in 1988 with the Doctor of Divinity degree. Mathis is the only person in the last 50 years to twice be elected president of the Kentucky Baptist Convention. In 1985-86, he was elected while serving as pastor of Central Baptist Church, Corbin; and, in 2009-10 as the first evange-list ever to hold the position. He has written two books: Surviving and Thriving in To-day’s Ministry and The Pastor-Staff Search Committee Guide, as well as contributing to several leadership maga-zines.

Thanks to everyone who helped prepare a Christmas

backpack. We had 47 donated. Praise the Lord!
