We are moving forward with ministry plans for Lake View Lighthouse and I ask you to find a way to plug in and be a part of this outreach and missional community ministry. The Family Faith Formation Team has been building a relationship with staff at Goliad Elementary and already we have provided some cold weather jackets and gift cards to help families in need. We will soon be having several work days to clean and paint and spruce up certain areas of the building and likely we will have something for everyone to help out with. Some ministries we hope to have on site quickly after that would include things like:

· Mentoring Program (hopefully this Fall) · Somebody’s Rusty/Laundry Love event · Wesley Nurse · Food Bank · Other outreach ministries Lake View Light House is a great opportunity for us to extend beyond the walls of our Church and into a place where United Methodist once served that

community. I pray you will get involved with us as we expand our work in the world.

11th Hour Celebrations . . .

Grace and peace to you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. There are so many wonderful things happening here at FirstChurch so I am just going to dive in! First, we have been so blessed to see so many of you returning to in-person worship. In 11th Hour we have enjoyed seeing all the little ones running up to hear Pastor Dale at children’s time and then again those same sweet children so eager to come back to the altar to place their

gifts, their offerings in the basket. Second, I love that this church is a praying church. From Sunday morning prayer time to our Sunday evening prayer Zoom, prayers in our Bible studies and Sunday School classes to prayers in our homes, we believe in the power of prayer. Lastly, I am excited about the progress we are beginning to make with our Lakeview Lighthouse ministries. We have es-tablished a relationship with the local elementary, Goliad, and we are preparing for a workday in order to get the build-ing in a usable state for the weekday ministries we are ready

to begin in this community. This was and is only possible because of your generosity and desire to be the hands and feet of Christ. As soon as we have a detailed list of what is needing to be done and a date for when we can join together for a workday, I will make sure it is announced to you all. In the meantime, if you are interested in helping with this project or would like to

hear more about the dreams and plans we are working on for Lakeview Lighthouse, feel free to call or email me.

May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;

may the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26 Grace & Peace,

WHY DO WE DO GODSPELL? By Virginia Eschman

Associate Pastor Dale Weise opened his devotional after a Spirit rehearsal last fall with the question 'Why do we do Godspell?' The FUMC Youth Choir has been doing what has become known as 'Godspell Tour' since the summer of 1997, anywhere from 7 to 13 years before any of the current members were even born. Dale used scripture to back up why we have been doing this performance as a mission and discussed how it affects cast members, sponsors and audiences. We decided it would be a good idea to let this current bunch of youth hear from past participants their stories about how they have seen God work through this mission. So far, they have heard from Tony Walker, Virginia Eschman, Dale Weise, Luke Coleman and Candis Hicks (let Dale know if you have a short story about the effect tour had on you or someone else that you would like to share during devotional time – we would love to hear it). The FUMC congregation has been supporting this mission of our youth for 25 years without seeing much other than an annual Homecoming Performance, so I thought as a Thank You it would be good to share some history and let you in on some of the things that actu-ally happen on 'Godspell Tour.' Way back in 1996, Tony and Sherrie Walker were teaching Junior High Sunday School and were asked what they did in church when they were growing up. Tony showed them the movie “Godspell” and told them how the youth choir at St. Stephens UMC in Mesquite went on tour performing both “Godspell” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.” The youth asked Tony if they could learn “Godspell” to do one performance in the fall of 1996. That is how this whole thing got started with the help of Tony, Youth Director Brenda Stone, Jane Smith and many others. Our youth had a group named S.P.A.M. (Singers, Players and Musicians) which worked with the other youth to do that one performance in the fall of 1996. Our current Youth Director, Chelsea Mul-lins Lytle, was a cast member in that performance. Somehow, that turned into our first “Godspell Tour” to Ten-nessee. They decided to change the name of the group to “Spirit” in 2000 because SPAM had taken on a completely different meaning because of the rise of email. We had a very talented bunch of youth early on who also learned and performed “Jesus Christ Superstar.” We toured with 'Superstar' a couple of years let-ting the churches choose which musical to perform at their church. We have four youth in our current cast and one who has already graduated who are children of prior cast members and sponsors from the 1990s. From my limited time of 9 tours and helping with Spirit for many other years, here are several things I know of that the youth of FUMC and other churches who have toured with us have been blessed with through 25 years of “Godspell.”

Spiritual Growth – “Godspell” is a Broadway musical using parables from Matthew and Luke. As our youth perform these stories and songs over the years, you can see their spiritual growth and understanding develop. A devotional is given at the end of each rehearsal and before each performance. Tony and Dale have taught our youth the meaning of the parables used in “Godspell” along with Advent, Christ-mas and Lenten lessons and many other important life lessons. Each day on tour starts with a devo-tional on the bus which is often given by one of the youth.

• Commitment – Spirit starts up each fall with the ultimate goal of doing “Godspell” tour right after school is out in the spring. Spirit normally doesn't start on “Godspell” until after Christmas. Throughout the year they learn other anthems to perform in church services and other places like nursing homes and Heritage Park at Christmas. Each youth makes a commitment to attend as many rehearsals and performances they can to show their commitment to Spirit, tour and God.

COVID-19 and Exercise Facts During the COVID-19 pandemic have you gained the COVID 15? Keep moving! Part of COVID weight gain is related to people being more sedentary

as they work from home, visit friends and families through a screen, or binge on Nextflix. Gyms being closed (or minimal people inside) and crowded parks may also keep people inside. Regular physical activity should carry on if possible. EASY WAYS TO MOVE 1. Put on your shoes and walk around the neighborhood or trails. Don’t forget about the benefits of vitamin D, which also reduce the risk of COVID-19. 2. Dust off your bike. Take advantage of the cooler weather this fall and go for a spin. 3. Try Pickle Ball. The sport from the 60’s is tennis meets ping pong. Set on a smaller court, you and a friend are physically distanced, but social. 4. Use some free weights during your favorite show. Download exercise videos on your tablet or phone. Many free apps available or Wellness Center has videos on Facebook for all to use. Mental Health Benefits In addition to improving your waistline, it is well known that exercise is good for our mental health. A large cross-sectional study published in Lancet Psychiatry analyzed adults over the age of 18 and their “mental health burden” with or without exercise. Those who exercised reported fewer days of poor mental health with largest associations seen with team sports, cycling, aerobic, and gym activi-ties. About Belly Fat…. Visceral adiposity of the fat around your midsection in the abdominal cavity. Even with weight loss, exercise reduces visceral adiposity by over 6%. Of course, if you add a healthy diet and reduce calo-ries then the combination of diet and exercise will reduce weight even more. Visceral adiposity is an important predictor of morbidity and mortality so the less you have, the better. Immunity If you are not convinced that exercise can help during this pandemic, remember that it also boosts immunity. Cardiorespiratory activity such as walking, biking, hiking, rowing, and running helps mo-bile millions of lymphocytes to fight COVID. If may also reduce the severity of the disease in some people. If you have had COVID already, talk with your doctor about resuming exercise. Information from www.foodandhealth.com

Special Announcement from Mary Herbert! We will be having our 8th West Texas Hun-ger Summit this spring. The main differ-ence is that this year our Summit will be virtual instead of in person. The overall theme for the Summit will be “Collaborations to Address Hunger,” and it will take place on three different dates—April 8th, April 15th, and April 22nd– with a differenct emphasis each day. Each ses-sion will be 10:00 am until 11:30 am. Alt-hough we much prefer seeing your faces and getting to network with you in person, this different venue gives us the advantage of allowing us to bring I spreakers from across the nation that we couldn’t have be-fore, and also, making it possible for more people to attend without time and expense for travel. Our Facebook page at Texas

Hunger Initiative provides speakers and topics that will be provided. Please help us in sharing about this wonderful opportunity. Mary Her-bert, San Angelo Regional Director, Texas Hunger Initiative, Baylor Col-laborative on Hunger and Poverty. (325 656-4170 fmi

Ticket to Spring went off without a hitch! Our church members enjoyed a night out including watching Lady and the Tramp, while snacking on every type of concession stand treat possible, and many even won one of our amazing door priz-es. It has been a fun March for the youth! We started the month off with a small service project for our church. We stuffed all the Easter eggs for our Annual Easter Egg Hunt! The youth also taste tested all of the candy. They say it is safe for the children. Haha! After all of that "hard work", we decid-

ed to go have some fun for Spring Break! We started the week off with a trip to the movie theater where everyone enjoyed Croods 2 and a fun time of fellowship. We then ended Spring Break with trying to escape one of the rooms at Think in a Box! Don't worry, everyone made it out. Sunday School has been great also. We have continued our Lent study, What Makes a Hero?. Many of the youth have told me that this is their favorite lesson series they have ever done in youth. It is so thought provoking, which is leading to some amazing discussions. The series also gives weekly challenges for the youth; they are able to go out in the real world and practice what they have just learned. Big things are happening in April too! Our youth have been asked to perform "The Living Last Supper" for the Maundy Thursday service on April 1. It is going to be such a neat experience for eve-ryone! It is definitely something you don't want to miss out on! We will also start a new study for Sunday School called I Am Second. I am sure this one will be just as exciting to the youth as the last one was.
