    Golf teamwinds upseason atMalone tourneyMercyhurst's golfers roundedoff their fall season with the two-day Malone College tournamentwhich was held last weekend.Heading the Hurst contingentwas Tom Saccamanno and MikeMcPherson who both produced atwo day total of 161.     physical Army side,playing somefine soccer throughout the wholeteam.Showing aggressiveness in thetackle and winning the ball in the air,a unified \ determination flowedthrough the team. The Lakers breakcame just before half-time with afine unassisted goal from ChariseMoore whose shot h it the corner ofthe goal post and deflected in fromthe Army goalkeeper.The second half started, verymuch as the firsthalf had ended withthe Lakers fdisplaying some fineballwork and attacking play. Re-sultingfrom his early pressure theLakers won a corner kick whichKathy Monahan kicked directlyinto the ne t This put the Lakers twogoals up after eight minutes of thesecond half. Determined no t to lettheir lead slip the Lakers keptup the

Three local televisionchannels sent cameras to interviewthe coach and key players.Copeland said that heexpects his senior players; PatrickOdhiambo, Tom Filipkowski andpccially Dave Quinn to playimportant leadership roles.Quinn says he is well preparedto take on any leadership responsi-bilities. "Everybody likes each

    other; the team is coming togetherand I think we will work really welltogether/ * Quinn said."Everyone 's reallyfiredup."Quinn said that with seven in-coming j freshmen, inexperiencewill be the team's main stumblingblock but added that it will only takea co u pie ofgames " to get the enginerunning."Beginning his second seasonunder coach Copeland, Quinn hadmuch praise for the former assistantcoach of Syracuse. "He is strong onfundamentals as any coach shouldbe," Quinn said. "He'san excellentcoach."

    A lot is also expected fromsophomore, Dave Constantino,who was one of the top scorers lastyear. Constantino is noted for histhree-point shooting ability. He saidhe enjoys shootingfrom hree pointland because it gets the crowd in-volved in the game.Copeland said he is happy withthe team's progress and is lookingforward to a much more successfulseason than last year when theyfinished last in the Mid-East Colle-giate Conference.The team kicks off the season inthe Edinboro Tournament on Nov17.
