Can we play with

our vegetable

Sure can. We just have to

get some selection and

transformation techniques down first

This process will use a lot of layers.

So grab the layers tab and drag it out and

then stretch it to full the height of your

screen.

We will need

the elliptical marquee

tool Zoom into the corner of the screen

so you can see the blueberry

Use the

marquee to draw a

circle around the berry. Dont get any of the white

on the outside

With the selection still active hold down the command +

Option keys and hit the J Key.

This will open the new layer dialog box and name the

new layer eye

Same trick with the

carrot, but a nasty error

message

in the layers pallet you need to make sure

you select the background layer

before trying to make a new layer. the

selected layer is blue.

use the lasso

tool to go around the edge of the

tomato. then make it a new layer

named nose

use the polygonal lasso tool to select the pasta

click on each place you want to

have a corner. when you

get back to the starting

point, a little o

will appear on the

bottom of the lasso

to go aroundcorners make little short

line segments

Make a new layer named tie

use the magnetic lasso with the grapefruit to make an ear

Just click the starting point, let

go of the button and trace somewhere close to to the

border between the fruit and the pith. click again when you close the figure. Name the

new layer ear.

use the same techniques to get a Hat and mouth layer from the mushroom and the kiwi

The real magic comes in the next steps

Use the elliptical marquee to put a loose selection around the

radishes

Hit the w key to select the magic

wand. position the cursor between the

radishes and the marquee.

Hold down the option

key and click. the area of

white will be subtracted

from the selection.

make it a new layer named eyebrow - then do the same for the head

So now all of the pieces

are on their own layers

One at a time,

select the eye layer and hit

command j then do the same for eye ball eyebrow, and the

ear

With the move tool Make

sure that auto-

select, Layer and

Show transform controls

are turned

on

grab the blue berry

the line is the bounding

box

the little squares are

the transform controls

the little cross hair

target in the middle is where you don't want

to click right now

click and drag anywhere but on

the center target to move

the layer contents

Move the blue berry on top of the

carrot

In the layers

panel move the eye copy layer to the top of the eye ball

layer. make sure the eye

copy is selected

press command + E

The blue

berry and the eyeball

are now merged into

a single layer

Do the same trick for the other

Close but we

are still missing the eyebrows

and Ears.They will take a bit more doing.

Grab an ear -

move it kind of close

with the mouse just outside of a

corner rotate the

ear

After doing a transformation you have to hit return before it will let you do anything else

Select the other ear click on edit > transform > Rotate 90 CCW Then Flip Horizontal. Move it where

it needs to go.

crop tool Click and drag to get rid of the

old veggies

in the layers panel the ears are above the eyebrows and

the head
