ENGAGE, ENCOURAGE, EMPOWER
Matthew 28:18b-20 "All authority has been giv-en to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have com-manded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen." (NKJV) I have been in prayer since last year that the Lord would give me His wisdom for this new ministry area. This is a prayer I am sure many pastors and staff can relate to. Recently, I felt impressed by three "E"'s: Engage, Encourage, and Empower. These "E"'s encom-pass much of what we do as an Association and I be-lieve are brief enough to help us focus our attention. We find these focus points in the Great Commission as we relate to those who are far from God. Engage. Jesus commanded us to "Go" and "make disciples." This is engaging the world around us. Of all the verbs or commands Jesus could have given us, He chooses "GO," thus we are to be people of action, of "going." There is more, we are not only to "go" we are also to "make disciples." Again, this conveys action. So, we need to engage others (all the nations) with the claims of Christ, that we might share with them the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. That is, that they can know the good news of living as a disciple, one who does the will of their King. Encourage. It is not enough to simply go or share. Paul is clear that we are supposed to mature in our faith. The maturation process can be hindered if we are not around other disciples. So, as an Association and as members of churches that support the Association, we can encourage those who do not know Christ to know Him. We can share the truth in love. Thus, this would be, "teaching them to observe all the things that I have commanded you." Empower. We also see empowerment in the Great Commission. Making disciples is, in fact, an act of empowerment. Moreover, "baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spir-it," is empowering, because it is an act of obedience. In the act of baptism, we show the new disciple that they can obey the Lord, submit to His reign, and follow Him. These are things they could never do apart from a rela-tionship with Christ. So, let us band together, to Engage, Encourage, and Empower, that we might serve our Lord as we GO, make disciples.

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek
