THANKSGIVING FOOD BAGS The Lord's Cupboard is handing out Thanksgiving food bags to families that need a little

extra help because of an illness in the family, financial problems, or something

similar. Please call the church office at 567-5001 or come to the Lord's Cupboard Food

Pantry at St. Paul's on the 1st and 3rd Mondays between 5:30 and 6:30 pm to sign up. Sign

up ends on November 12th. You can pick up the bags on November 19th between 5:30 and

6:30 pm in the school lobby.

We will need help packing the food bags on November 17th at 9:00 am in the Fellowship

Hall, it only takes about one hour, please join us.

CONGREGATIONAL CHALLENGE It’s that time of year again …… Time to announce our Christmas Service opportunities in

the newspapers ! The Board of Evangelism has received an anonymous donation to fund

these ads. The donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $400.00. A successful

challenge will allow St. Paul’s to run ads in both local newspapers, for Advent &

Christmas and will enable better exposure to our community of our Worship

opportunities. Please prayerfully consider helping in this opportunity to reach out so that

we can do God’s will as being faithful disciples. Please contact Cindy Peartree in the office

CHRISTMAS CARING CORNER If you or someone you know needs help with Christmas gifts for a child/children, 18

years-old or younger, please fill out an application for the Christmas Caring Corner.

Forms are available in the church office, in the narthex or on the Service & Mission

Outreach bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall. Please fill out one form per person and

return to the church office no later than November 21st.

OCTOBER CARING CORNER ~ LWML LWML is collecting Mites for our 2012-2014 Mission Grants and shipping expenses for

our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes going out in November. Place mite donations

and envelopes for shipping expenses in the large Mite Box in Narthex.

EXPLORING A CARING MINISTRY

On the weekend of November 10th & 11th your Stephen Ministry team will conduct an informational session after each service. We plan to set up four tables in the Fellowship Hall each manned by a Stephen Leader. One table will provide general information about our Stephen Ministry. The second table will provide information about becoming a Stephen Minister. The third table will provide information about becoming a Stephen Leader. The fourth table will provide information about becoming a care receiver.

The format is informal. Stop by the table or tables that interest you and have your questions answered by a Stephen Leader.

COLLEGE CARE PACKAGE MINISTRY For those of you interested in receiving or having a College Care Package sent to your college student, please e-mail or call me with the students name and mailing address at school. MEALS MINISTRY The Board of Service and Mission Outreach (SMO) oversees this ministry which is to make a meal/s for St. Paul's members and their families to help them in situations of hospitalizations, illness or death. Please contact the church office if we could assist you to make a difficult time a little easier.

We are also looking for someone to manage this ministry. We have a list of people ready to make the food. We need someone to be the contact person for the church office when the request comes in and then to call one of the people on the list who will make and deliver the meal to the family. If you currently have a card to enter the church/school main doors, you will need to exchange your card for a new card. If you currently enter the building using a key (1AA), you will also need to turn in your key and receive a new card.

Mrs. Hesse and Mrs. Peartree will be available Saturday October 27th after service and Sunday October 28th between services to exchange cards. The office is also open Monday thru Friday 7am-4pm.

If you are a new board member and need access to the building, there is a $50 deposit for your card. When your term is up and your card is turned in the $50 will be refunded to you.

At the September 6th Parent Vision Meeting and at Staff Meetings, there were also additional goals added to our list for the 2012 – 2013 School year. These are:

� Professional Development for Teachers

� Assessments used to determine instruction, set school goals

� Marketing (“tell St. Paul’s story”)

� Curriculum emphasis (math rigor, use of Common Core Standards)

� Tuition guidelines for families with multiple children

� Playground safety

� Physical plan (windows, cleaning, etc.)

� EdLine (more effective and consistent use of this online communication tool)

But, used as an excuse for abortion, it becomes idolatry. The Bible never condemns wealth, but loving and trusting it more than God is “a grievous evil I have seen under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 5:13a). He who afflicted His Son on our behalf, will not abandon us in our afflictions.

Last year, we made significant progress toward increasing our technology capabilities and our technology resources… below is a list of what we accomplished:

5. Purchased 1 desk projector for ceiling mounting in computer lab,

6. 10 wall-mounted short-throw projectors for all classrooms/science lab; upgraded electrical for installation.

7. Purchased 11 additional laptops for classroom use in 2012/13.

For this school year, we have even more technology advancements planned for St. Paul’s – these include:

� Purchase of a laptop charging cart - with more laptops comes storage issues/concerns – this tool has the capability to store and charge 24 laptops in a secure cabinet.

� Ceiling-mount for the computer lab. 1. Purchase of 8 additional laptops dedicated to our faculty for additional flexibility in teach-

ing; 2. An additional 12-24 laptops for classroom use – The school is growing and so is our need

for additional laptops to accommodate the class sizes and to offer more availability of this tool to more classrooms at a time;

3. The purchase of additional Mimeo systems for classrooms; 4. Document camera(s) to replace obsolete overhead-projectors; 5. New software for technology curriculum.

The first two of these items have already been ordered, due to the continued generosity of our church & school families!! The remaining items will be purchased as funds become available through our Race for Education fundraiser and the donations and memorials of our congregation and school members.

Race for Education St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran School is holding our fourth Race for Education on Friday October 19th. The students and staff have sent out personal mailers to friends and family members across the country and a few across the world requesting pledges for our school. All of the students (and some staff members) will be running laps around Fowler Park for a one hour time period to earn their pledges. Many students and staff run over 4 miles.

Our goal is to raise $22,000.00 for St. Paul’s School. As of October 17th, we have raised over $19,200.00. We are praying for that extra boost to reach our goal. Thrivent Financial agreed to meet our pledges at 10%, up to $2,000.00!

PAUL’S FINANCIAL CONDITIONGATION ST. PAUL’S FINANCIAL CONDITION September 30th was the end of the first quarter of St Paul’s fiscal year. The Board of Stewardship has analyzed income and expenses to date and by comparing to historical averages, can make reasonably accurate predictions about how St. Paul’s should look by fiscal year-end – assuming current trends continue.

Bottom line, St Paul’s net financial picture is almost exactly as originally planned. As might be expected, in the three months since the plan was put in place, there are some changes, but the net effect is that we expect St. Paul’s budget should remain balanced – as originally planned.

Our prayer is that the congregation continues to strive toward stewardship of their time, talents, and treasures so St. Paul’s can continue (and expand) on its mission.

LWML will be packing shoe boxes for OPERATION CHRISTMAS

CHILD at our next meeting on November 6th. If you would like to

donate items for these boxes below is a list of suggested items.

Place in basket by the Caring Corner.

TOYS: small cars, balls, dolls, yo-yos, small Etch-a-Sketch, toys that

light up (with extra batteries), slinky, etc.

Ecclesiastes 5:10-20

He who loves money will not be satisfied with

money, nor he who loves wealth with his

income; this also is vanity. When goods increase,

they increase who eat them, and what

advantage has their owner but to see them with

his eyes? Sweet is the sleep of a laborer,

whether he eats little or much, but the full

stomach of the rich will not let him sleep. There

is a grievous evil that I have seen under the sun:

riches were kept by their owner to his hurt, and

those riches were lost in a bad venture. And he

is father of a son, but he has nothing in his hand.

As he came from his mother's womb he shall go

again, naked as he came, and shall take nothing

for his toil that he may carry away in his hand.

This also is a grievous evil: just as he came, so

shall he go, and what gain is there to him who

toils for the wind? Moreover, all his days he eats

in darkness in much vexation and sickness and

anger. Behold, what I have seen to be good and

fitting is to eat and drink and find enjoyment in

all the toil with which one toils under the sun the

few days of his life that God has given him, for

this is his lot. Everyone also to whom God has

given wealth and possessions and power to

enjoy them, and to accept his lot and rejoice in

his toil—this is the gift of God. For he will not

much remember the days of his life because God

keeps him occupied with joy in his heart.

Hebrews 4:1-16

Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest

still stands, let us fear lest any of you should

seem to have failed to reach it. For good news

came to us just as to them, but the message

they heard did not benefit them, because they

were not united by faith with those who listened.

For we who have believed enter that rest, as he

has said, “As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall

not enter my rest,’” although his works were

finished from the foundation of the world. For he

has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in

this way: “And God rested on the seventh day

from all his works.” And again in this passage he

said, “They shall not enter my rest.” Since

therefore it remains for some to enter it, and

those who formerly received the good news

failed to enter because of disobedience, again he

appoints a certain day, “Today,” saying through

David so long afterward, in the words already

quoted, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not

harden your hearts.” For if Joshua had given

them rest, God would not have spoken of

another day later on. So then, there remains a

Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever

has entered God's rest has also rested from his

works as God did from his. Let us therefore

strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall

by the same sort of disobedience. For the word of

God is living and active, sharper than any two-

edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and

of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning

the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no

creature is hidden from his sight, but all are

naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom

we must give account. Since then we have a

great high priest who has passed through the

heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast

our confession. For we do not have a high priest

who is unable to sympathize with our

weaknesses, but one who in every respect has

been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us

then with confidence draw near to the throne of

grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace

to help in time of need.

St. Mark 10:23-31

And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples,

“How difficult it will be for those who have wealth

to enter the kingdom of God!” And the disciples

were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to

them again, “Children, how difficult it is to enter

the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go

through the eye of a needle than for a rich person

to enter the kingdom of God.” And they were

exceedingly astonished, and said to him, “Then

who can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and

said, “With man it is impossible, but not with

God. For all things are possible with God.” Peter

began to say to him, “See, we have left

everything and followed you.” Jesus said, “Truly,

I say to you, there is no one who has left house

or brothers or sisters or mother or father or

children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel,

who will not receive a hundredfold now in this

time, houses and brothers and sisters and

mothers and children and lands, with

persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.

But many who are first will be last, and the last

first.”
