WELCOME to everyone, especially our guests.

Your presence is important to us.

St. Paul’s is an evangelical Christian

congregation, embracing historic Christian

teaching on all doctrines, centered on Jesus

Christ. Our desire is to bring the Gospel both

to those who are searching for answers to the

meaning of life and to those who desire a

closer relationship with God. We here at St.

Paul's have chosen to align ourselves with the

teachings of the Lutheran Reformation, due

to the clarity with which these help us to see

the true meaning of God's Word.

Specifically, St. Paul's is a ministry of the

Lutheran Church -- Missouri Synod, one of

America's truly biblical churches!

• Members and guests: please fill out an

attendance card and place it in the

offering plate to indicate your presence

today. For Holy Communion, please read

our confession and indicate your

agreement with our beliefs by checking

the box next to the names of those

communing.

• Those sharing our beliefs, especially from

parishes in fellowship with us, are

welcome to receive.

• If you desire Holy Communion but hold a

confession differing from that of this

congregation, please speak with a Pastor

or an Elder.

• Non-communing, baptized children are

welcome to come to the table for a

blessing.

Please note: Half the inner circle of individual

glasses in each tray contains water with one

drop of communion wine for those hesitant to

drink larger amounts of wine. Those glasses

with wine are rose in color. 2

LUTHERAN SERVICE BOOK HYMNAL The Board of Elders recently voted to replace our current Lutheran Worship hymnal (1983)

with the LCMS's most current hymnal, the Lutheran Service Book pew edition (2006). Our

goal is to make the transition before year-end. If you are interested in purchasing the

Lutheran Service Book ($23 per book) for your home, or for the church in memory of a

loved one, please contact Cindy Peartree in the church office at 262.567.5001.

CHRISTMAS CARING CORNER Ornaments are on the trees for gift requests for the children from the Lake Country area

and the residents of Bethesda. Please take an ornament from the tree in the church

narthex or the tree in the school lobby. Return the wrapped gift by Monday, December

10th. Please note that if there is no age indicated on the tag, the clothing item would be for

an adult. Also, due to your incredible generosity, all of the tags have been removed from

the tree. There will be a second set of tags put on the tree. These tags are not a second

round for the first group, but for new people in need. Again, a HUGE THANK YOU for all

of your support and making all these families Christmas’s a little more blessed.

CONGREGATIONAL CHALLENGE

It’s that time of year again ……Time to announce our Christmas Service opportunities in the newspapers! The Board of Evangelism has received an anonymous donation to fund these ads. The donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $400.00. A successful challenge will allow St. Paul’s to run ads in both local newspapers, for Advent & Christmas and will enable better exposure to our community of our Worship opportunities. Please prayerfully consider helping in this opportunity to reach out so that we can do God’s will as being faithful disciples. Please contact Cindy Peartree in the office to help.

A NEW STEPHEN MINISTRY TRAINING CLASS IS STARTING SOON Faith, listening, mercy, teaching the faith, encouragement, or knowing: Do one or more of these gifts describe you? If so, check out Stephen Ministry, our congregation's one-to-one care giving ministry. A new training class is starting in January. We are excited to report that there has been a significant increase in the music instruction provided to our students. Instrumental music is now provided to students in grades 4 through 8 – with St Paul’s adding grade 4 last year. In addition, beginning and advanced guitar is also offered to students in grades 4 – 8 through a contracted teacher coming to our school weekly to give instructions. And this year, Middle School Choir continues to be offered as an elective. Watch for our students showcasing their musical talents next month as we approach the Christmas holiday season.

TEN MILLION WORDS!TEN MILLION WORDS!TEN MILLION WORDS!TEN MILLION WORDS! Congratulations to Isaiah Scheuer who read over 10,000,000 words through the Scholastic Reading Counts program during the 2011-2012 school year. Isaiah was challenged to achieve this incredible number because of the Million Word Reading Challenge offered to the St. Paul’s Middle School students. Any student that reads over one million words during the school year earns the opportunity to have lunch off-campus. This was Isaiah’s third year achieving this goal. In honor of his achievement, Scholastic Inc. is awarding Isaiah with a $250 gift certificate that will be used to purchase new books for St. Paul’s Lutheran School.

donations above and beyond our regular offerings were needed. Below is a

Time to Grow Winter Session January 2-February 6 Deadline to register is December 19th

Every Christian can benefit from continued study in God’s Word. Time to Grow is our offering of classes on Wednesday nights for the whole family. Through Bible study, the Holy Spirit works

to build up our faith as we continue to grow and understand God’s Holy Word. We have a meal

available in the fellowship hall starting at 5:00 pm and it’s served until 6pm. The cost is adults

$4.00, 5-12 is $3.00 and 4 and under is free. At 6:00 pm we gather in the church for a time of

devotion and singing before we are dismissed to our classes at 6:20 pm. The children then go to

their own age appropriate classrooms to study the bible through story, crafts, games and music.

The adults have a variety of classes they can choose from at the same time. Our evening ends at

7:20 pm. There is a nursery available for children under 3.

Apologetics: Led by Mark Newman (religion teacher at LCLHS) ~ Room #219 "Always be prepared to give a reason for the hope that is in you." - 1 Peter 3:15

Some topics we will dissect in this class:

The Apologetics Bible study will also be offered in a one day workshop on Saturday, February 16th from 9:00 am-2:00 pm. More details will be available in January.

More than Money Matters: Led by Jim Healy of Thrivent ~ Room #205

Learn how to manage your money in ways that align with your values. Topics to be discussed are:

Preparation for Holy Communion: Led by Pastor Lance O’Donnell ~ Room #206

Educationally it has been shown that a child around the age of ten (10) is capable of believing and understanding what is necessary to receive the Lord’s Supper and make that confession. Some may choose to wait until they are older to commune for the first time. One parent must attend each class with the child. Both parents may attend. This class is for children in 5th - 8th grade or anyone who would like a refresher course on the Lord’s Supper. The students will need a Catechism and a Bible.

What is Truth? Does God exist? What about evolution? What about other worldviews?

If God exists, why is there evil? Can the Bible really be trusted? Is Jesus really God? Did Jesus really rise from the dead?

 Stewardship and values Setting goals

Communicating about money Finding money to save.

FIRST SUNDAY IN ADVENT

Jeremiah 33:14–16

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,

when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house

of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and

at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to

spring up for David, and he shall execute justice

and righteousness in the land. In those days Judah

will be saved and Jerusalem will dwell securely.

And this is the name by which it will be called: ‘The

Lord is our righteousness.’”

1 Thessalonians 3:9–13

What thanksgiving can we return to God for you,

for all the joy that we feel for your sake before our

God, as we pray most earnestly night and day that

we may see you face to face and supply what is

lacking in your faith? Now may our God and

Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way

to you, and may the Lord make you increase and

abound in love for one another and for all, as we

do for you, so that he may establish your hearts

blameless in holiness before our God and Father,

at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.

Luke 19:28–40

When he had said these things, he went on ahead,

going up to Jerusalem. When he drew near to

Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount that is called

Olivet, he sent two of the disciples, saying, “Go into

the village in front of you, where on entering you

will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever yet

sat. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you,

‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The

Lord has need of it.’” So those who were sent went

away and found it just as he had told them. And as

they were untying the colt, its owners said to them,

“Why are you untying the colt?” And they said,

“The Lord has need of it.” And they brought it to

Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt, they

set Jesus on it. And as he rode along, they spread

their cloaks on the road. As he was drawing near—

already on the way down the Mount of Olives—the

whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice

and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty

works that they had seen, saying, “Blessed is the

King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in

heaven and glory in the highest!” And some of the

Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher,

rebuke your disciples.” He answered, “I tell you, if

these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”
