The theme of this book is love, easy as that, love. When a man loves a woman, and there’s

nothing else but them kind of love. Not that mushy gushy only read in fairy tales love but the

real, butterflies in your stomach kind of love. The characters Beth and Logan are just normal

people, like you and me. They both want to find someone to share the rest of their lives with

and start a family and raise kids with their mates. Another theme for this book is destiny and

lust. Destiny because Beth is in Logan’s destiny because of the photo he found in Iraq. Which

gives him luck through the war and just in general, so he sets out to find the woman who

basically gave him this luck as he believes. ‘“Not just tonight. You found that picture for a

reason. No one claimed it for a reason. You took it today for a reason. Only you were meant to

have it”’ (Sparks 23). “‘No… not like that. It has nothing to do with the photo, or the journey

here, or anything Victor said. It’s just that I’ve never met anyone like you before, and I’m

certain I never will again. I love you Elizabeth… and more than that, I like you. I enjoy spending

time with you’” (Sparks 302). “‘Because I thought it would keep him safe’” (Sparks 300). “‘I

was scared but I had the picture in my pocket. Thibault said it would keep me’” (Sparks 322).

“‘She was his forever, too-imperfect as she was. Take it or leave it, she thought. She was who

she was’” (Sparks 326).

I believe that the author tried to teach me that if you feel you are destined to be with

someone to just go for it. In the book Thibault finds a photo of a beautiful woman while

he is in war. His friend Victor believes that this photo is a good luck charm that keeps

him safe throughout the whole war. While fighting a troop one day in Iraq Victor tells

Thibault that the woman in the photo is destiny and he needs to find her, moments later

Logan gets shot and dies while Thibault gets out unharmed. So Thibault decides to leave

his Colorado home to travel to North Carolina to find the woman in the picture for his

friend Victor. He finds her at a dog kennel where he applies for an open job at the

kennel. They get to know each other and fall in love in the end, so he went for his

destiny and that is why I think Nicholas Sparks wrote this book.

Do you like a good love story? Do you like a good love story that teaches a

lesson and has an ending no one could see coming? The Lucky One is a book

about a man following his destiny and trying to find the woman of his dreams.

Through heartbreak, guilt and loss this book touches on just about every subject

of love there is. This book is also about a woman trying to do right for her son

and get her life straight and do what is best for them. My opinion of the book is

a positive one; I myself would read this book, if I hadn’t already read it. It was a

surprise that I finished it though because I thought that I had already figured out

the ending, but I’m glad that I did because I was completely wrong. But it ended

way better than I thought it would and I like that in books.

Nicholas Sparks is the world’s bestselling author of love stories. With well over

50 million copies of his books in print, Nicholas Sparks is one of the world’s most

beloved storytellers, and all his books have been New York Times and

international bestsellers, and were translated into more than forty languages.

Four of Nicholas Sparks’ novels were also adapted into major motion pictures.

The author lives in North Carolina with his wife and family. Nicholas Sparks and

J.K. Rowling (of Harry Potter fame) are the only contemporary authors to have a

novel spend more than a year on both the New York Times hardcover and

paperback best-seller lists. He is a major contributor to the Creative Writing

Program at the University of Notre Dame. After selling The Notebook, the first

thing he bought was a new wedding ring for his wife. He still holds a track and

field record at the University of Notre Dame.
