This Reserve Force regiment originated on14 September 1866 and incorporates the followingregiments.

The Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin and HaltonRegiment) originated in Brampton, Ontario on14 September 1866, when the '36th "Peel Battalion ofInfantry"' was authorized to be formed.1 It wasredesignated: '36th Peel Regiment' on 8 May 1900;2

'The Peel Regiment' on 1 May 1920;3 and 'The Peeland Dufferin Regiment' on 15 April 1923.4 On15 December 1936, it was amalgamated with 'TheLorne Rifles (Scottish)' (see below) and redesignated'The Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin and HaltonRegiment)'.5 It was redesignated '2nd (Reserve)Battalion, The Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin and HaltonRegiment)' on 7 November 1940;6 and 'The LorneScots (Peel, Dufferin and Halton Regiment)' on21 February 1947.7

On 15 January 1921, the 1st Battalion (20th Battalion, CEF) wasredesignated the 1st Battalion (GO 18/21). On 1 March 1921 theregiment was reorganized as a three battalion regiment with the1st Battalion (74th Battalion, CEF) on the Non Permanent ActiveMilitia order of battle, and the 2nd Battalion (126th Battalion, CEF)and 3rd Battalion (234th Battalion, CEF) on the Reserve order ofbattle (GO 65/21). The reserve units were disbanded on14 December 1936 (GO 3/37).

embarked for Great Britain on 27 November 1915.16

It provided reinforcements to the Canadian Corps inthe field until 9 July 1916, when its personnel wereabsorbed by the '39th "Overseas" Battalion, CEF'.17

The battalion was disbanded on 21 May 1917.18

The Second World WarThe Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin and HaltonRegiment) mobilized the 'No. 1 Infantry Base Depot,CASF' for active service on 1 September 1939.39 Thisunit was disbanded in England on 11 July 1940,following the formation of the No. 1 Canadian BaseDepot.40

It was stationed in Liverpool, England for theconvenience of disembarkation and embarkation ofCanadian soldiers.43 The depot was disbanded on18 July 1944.44

The regiment subsequently mobilized the '1stBattalion, The Lorne Scots (Peel, Dufferin and HaltonRegiment), CASF' for active service on6 February 1941, to "provide personnel andreinforcements for all 'Defence and Employment'requirements of The Canadian Army. As a result,numerous Lorne Scots defence and employmentunits served in the Mediterranean, North-WestEurope and Canada.45 The overseas battalion wasdisbanded on 21 February 1947, when its last unit,'No. 1 Non-Effective Transit Depot, CASF' (seebelow), was disbanded.46
