Corporate Confession of Sin Almighty God, who by the resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ has given eternal life to all who believe in him, and who has called us to live pure and joyful lives, we confess that we have failed to live as we ought. We have forgotten your promises, and have ignored your commandments. We are profoundly sorry and would earnestly repent. Please forgive us and revive our hearts that we might, with steadfast affection, glorify you in thought, word, and deed, for the glory of our Resurrected Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
Assurance of Pardon ....................................... Isaiah 55:6-7 We confess our sins to God because he invites us, indeed commands us, to do so. God’s Word urges us to “seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.” Thanks be to God for the mercy that he promises and the forgiveness that he gives through Jesus!
Affirmation of Faith ... The Heidelberg Catechism, Lord’s Day 46 Q 120. Why did Christ command us to call God “our Father”? A. To awaken in us at the very beginning of our prayer what should be basic to our prayer—a childlike reverence and trust that through Christ God has become our Father, and that just as our parents do not refuse us the things of this life, even less will God our Father refuse to give us what we ask in faith. Q 121. Why the words “in heaven”? A. These words teach us not to think of God’s heavenly majesty as something earthly, and to expect everything needed for body and soul from God’s almighty power.
Prayer of Intercession and The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven; hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Please complete the black Fellowship Folder and pass down the pew.

My heart, which in the Lord rejoices, would then proclaim in grateful songs. O all ye pow’rs that God implanted, arise and silence keep no more; put forth the strength that He hath granted! Your no-blest work is to adore! All creatures that hath breath and motion, that throng the earth, the sea, the sky, now join me in my heart’s devotion, help me raise God’s praises high! Now join me in my heart’s devotion, help me raise God’s praises high! O Father, deign Thou, I beseech Thee, to listen to my earthly lays; a nobler strain in heav’n shall reach Thee, when I with angels hymn Thy praise! And learn amid their choirs to sing hallelujahs to my King! Amen!

Notes on the Service
Our sermon text this morning represents two “oracles,” two prophetic
words that James gives to his people. They stand as warnings as he calls
us to “come now” and consider our ways—consider our boasting in
tomorrow and consider our abuse of wealth and power. Through this
prophetic forth-telling, James means to use the warnings very
specifically in our lives. He wants us to be humbled before God—which
is exactly how someone with genuine faith responds to God’s warnings.
Our worship service picks up these themes of God’s providence and our
humility in a variety of ways. Most obviously, in the call to worship
from Habakkuk 2:20, we humble ourselves before the Lord. We have
come to hear him in his holy temple: it is right for us to be silent before
him. And as our first hymn reminds us, we come with all creation to
bring songs of thanksgiving and praise to our Creator: “We too should
be voicing our love and rejoicing, with glad adoration a song let us
raise, ‘til all things now living unite in thanksgiving to God in the
highest, hosanna and praise!”
Because God is our Creator, he not only made us but rules over us.
Our times and our lives are all in his hand. We sing the setting of
Psalm 31, “My times are thy hand” and the position of faith is that “my
God, I wish them there.” We do not boast in tomorrow or presume in
it. Rather, we trust our God that he will provide for us and care for us
day by day.
Indeed, that is why we ask for daily bread, to signal our humility before
the Lord and to rest in his provision. We come to a Father who gives us
what we ask for in faith: he is our father in heaven. Let us pray with that
confidence this morning!
And let us rejoice in this God, asking him to be our vision, our
wisdom, our battle shield, our Father, our shelter, our High King.
Consider all that God is for you through Jesus Christ. And respond to
God’s warnings his Word by running to Jesus as your Lord in faith and
joy and love!

The session of the First Presbyterian Church, Inc., has called for a congregational meeting on November 15, 2015, at 6pm, for the purpose of electing officers and for hearing ministry reports. Not only will we elect elders and deacons for the class of 2019, but we will also have a brief corporation meeting to elect a new president and vice-president of the corporation, per our by-laws. Please plan on attending our annual meeting. Not only will you hear useful information about how the year went from a membership and attendance perspective, but also financial information about this and next year's budget. Plus, this is the major thing our congregation gets to decide: who will be their representatives to oversee and serve them. It is very important that you are there. See below for bios of class of 2019 ruling elder candidates and on the back for deacon candidates.
