What an interesting spring we’ve been having so far! The rain alone has posed quite a bit of a prob-
lem for most of us in Eastern Nebraska. I keep
thinking that if anyone makes the statement “I’m gonna make it rain,” it would be heard with a re-
sounding “NO!” Even with the rains and flooding, Nebraskans have shown how to come together to
help each other out as a community. Over the past several months there have been countless stories of
everyday people making large impacts on their communities. The LOMA
Society of Nebraska is also trying to take up this mantle. We are hoping to get volunteer opportunities in Lincoln and in Omaha. I would welcome
any suggestions for our membership on something that drives your pas-sion towards giving.
Hopefully, despite busy schedules or acts of nature, you are all finding
time to enjoy yourself. Perhaps you also attended one of our great events that have happened this year. In March we welcomed Nat Craw-
ford out to our Spring Breakfast at Mahoney Park. It was a great morning session focusing on Leadership Skills building. Nat really prompted every-
one to find their breakout year and focus on growing themselves. Just a few weeks ago we had our May meeting in Lincoln. We changed it
up on our membership too (you know us board members, always trying
something new). We held the event at the Cornhusker and created a so-cial hour in the atrium. If you were able to attend, we hope you enjoyed
the differences. We also had two tremendous speakers. Pat Haverty, Vice President of Lincoln Economic Development Partnership and Randy
Thelen, Senior Vice President of Economic Development for the Omaha
Chamber of Commerce. They talked about all of the great things that are happening in Lincoln and Omaha. There was also a decent rivalry be-
tween the two it seemed, which is strange since Omaha and Lincoln never compete at anything. They even discussed the chances of making Omaha
a center hub for Financial Services. Good news to all of us Insurance and
Financial Services professionals! As we get into the busy summer months, with graduations and vacations,
I hope you can make time to come out to our next event (and subse-quently most popular event for some unknown reason). The Wine and
Cheese event will take place on August 13th at Soaring Wings Vineyard starting with social hour at 4:30 PM and the Meeting at 5:00 PM. Should
be a great meeting and then we will be having our seminar this fall as
well. I hope you all have a great summer and I look forward to seeing you all
at an upcoming event!

Nebraska LOMA Society Spring Breakfast
On March 19, 2015, the LOMA Society of Nebraska hosted its annual Spring
Breakfast Meeting at Mahoney State Park. There were 45 members in attendance
to hear Nat Crawford’s presentation on “Influential Leadership”. Nat Crawford is
the President of Cornerstone Leadership Solutions.
After guests enjoyed a hot breakfast, President, Carrie Michielutti opened the
meeting by introducing the Society Officers, recognizing new members and an-
nouncing the Membership Director opening. Carrie then drew for door prize win-
ners. Through attendee donations, $109.00 was raised for the Food Bank from
door prize raffle tickets!
After the opening, Carrie introduced the guest speaker, Nat Crawford. Nat has
over ten years of experience in leadership training, personal mentoring and
coaching. He is a certified speaker through Dynamic Communicators International
and a certified executive coach through the Center for Influential Leadership.
Nat’s topic for our meeting was “Influential Leadership: A Prescription for Effec-
tive Organizational Leadership”. Nat shared the results of several surveys that
indicated there were performance gaps in the workforce. One of these studies
suggested that 70% of the workforce is disengaged or actively disengaged. Nat
shared many ideas and resources to help us become better leaders and to com-
bat these workforce gaps.
The board met following the membership meeting. Former membership director,
Jennifer Osterman, reported that membership was currently at 122 members.
Program director, Diana Clark shared some new ideas she was able to implement
for upcoming meetings. The board also approved meeting minutes from the Janu-
ary meeting and discussed ideas for the annual seminar.

Opening remarks, President, Carrie Michielutti
Welcome new members
Introduce board members, still in need of membership director
Speaker Nat Crawford, President of Leadership Solutions
Presentation: Influential Leadership A Prescription for Effective Leadership
Individual leadership behavior is the #1 predictor of organizational performance.
The reality
Very few organizations invest time and money in leadership development
Most of the leadership development training ignores the essential element linked to performance outcomes
(behavior).
The result
Leaders and managers often spend more than ½ their time fixing people problems.
Influential Leadership
Is a journey, changing your thinking, beliefs, reconnecting with your passions.
Three kinds of influence: situational, temporary and permanent
Influence is about making a difference in the lives of people
It is time for your breakthrough, personal breakthroughs drive organizational breakthroughs
Three influential leadership principles
Self awareness: Create a personal mission statement. Behavior is a choice, not a personality.
Collaboration: Zig Zigler, positive thinking
Connectivity: develop and enhance communication skills, remember names and things about your employ-
ees to connect on a personal level (build respect).
Event + Response= The quality of the outcome
Board meeting afterwards. Quick roundtable discussion. No new updates to announce.
Respectfully Submitted
Jennifer Osterman
