The average age of the military man is 19

years. He is a short haired, tight-muscled kid

    who, under normal circumstances is

considered by society as half man, half boy. Not

yet dry behind the ears, not old enough to buy a

beer, but old enough to die for his country. He

never really cared much for work and he would

rather wax his own car than wash his father's, but

he has never collected unemployment either.

He's a recent High School graduate; he was

probably an average student, pursued some form of

sport activities, drives a ten year old

jalopy, and has a steady girlfriend that

either broke up with him when he left, or

swears to be waiting when he returns

from half a world away. He listens to

rock and roll or hip-hop or rap or jazz or

    swing and a 155mm howitzer.

He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now

than when he was at home because he is

working or fighting from before dawn to well after

dusk. He has trouble spelling, thus letter writing is

a pain for him, but he can field strip a rifle in 30

seconds and reassemble it in less time in the dark.

He can recite to you the nomenclature of a machine

gun or grenade launcher and use either one

    effectively if he must.

He digs foxholes and latrines and can

apply first aid like a professional. He can

march until he is told to stop, or stop until he

    is told to march.

He obeys orders instantly and without

hesitation, but he is not without spirit or

    individual dignity. He is self-sufficient.

He has two sets of fatigues: he washes

one and wears the other. He keeps his canteens

    full and his feet dry.

He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth,

but never to clean his rifle. He can cook his

own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his

    own hurts.

If you're thirsty, he'll share his water with

    you; if you are hungry,

    his food. He'll even split

    his ammunition with you

in the midst of battle when

    you run low.

He has learned touse his hands like

    weapons and weapons

    like they were his

    hands to his advantage.

    He can save your

life - or take it, because

    that is his job.

    He will often do

twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay,

and still find ironic humor in it all.

He has seen more suffering and death than

he should have in his short lifetime. He has

wept in public and in private, for friends who

have fallen in combat and is unashamed.

He feels every note of the National Anthem

vibrate through his body while at rigid attention,

while tempering the burning desire to 'square-away

' those around him who haven't bothered to stand,

remove their hat, or even stop talking. In an odd

twist, day in and day out, far from home, he

defends their right to be disrespectful.

Just as did his Father, Grandfather, andGreat-grandfather, he is paying the price for

our freedom. Beardless or not, he is not a boy.

He is the American Fighting Man that has

kept this country free for over 200 years.

He has asked nothing in return, except

    our friendship and understanding.

Remember him, always, for he has

earned our respect and admiration with his own

    precious blood.

And now we even have women over there

in danger, doing their part in this tradition of

going to War when our nation calls us to do so.

As you go to bed tonight, remember this

    shot. . . A short lull, a little shade and a picture

of loved ones in their helmets.

    Prayer: 'Lord, hold our

    troops in your loving hands.

Protect them as they protect us.Bless them and their families for

the selfless acts they perform for

us in our time of need. Amen.'

    When you read this, please

stop for a moment and say a

prayer for our ground troops in

    Afghanistan, sailors on ships, and

airmen in the air, and for those in

Iraq, Afghanistan, and all foreign countries.

Of all the gifts you could give a US

    Soldier, Sailor, Coastguardsman, Marine, or

Airman, prayer is the very best one. If nothing

else, next time you see someone in uniform -

    please say:Thank You TLN

But this makes me feel better about it. And if you aint one, I betchyayou know one! I got this from an "Old Timer" friend of mine!

    OLD TIMER PRIDE

I'm passing this on as I did not want to be the only Old Timer

receiving it. Actually, it's not a bad thing to be called, as you will see. OldTimers are easy to spot at sporting events; during the playing of O Canada

(or The Star Spangled Banner). Old Timers remove their caps and stand at

attention and sing without embarrassment. They know the words andbelieve in them.

Old Timers remember World War II, D day, VE day, Normandy and

Hitler. They remember the Atomic Age, the Korean War, The Cold War,the Jet Age and the Moon Landing. They remember the Peacekeeping

Missions from 1945 to 2005, not to mention Vietnam.

If you bump into an Old Timer on the sidewalk he will apologize.

If you pass an Old Timer on the street, he will nod or tip his cap to alady.(Some of us still enjoy looking as well). Old Timers trust strangers

    and are courtly to women.

Old Timers hold the door for the next person andalways, when walking, make certain the lady is

    on the inside for protection.

Old Timers get embarrassed if someone

curses in front of women and children andthey don't like any filth or dirty language

    on TV or in movies.

Old Timers have moral courage and personal integrity. They seldom brag

unless it's about their children or

    Grandchildren.

It's the Old Timers who know our greatcountry is protected, not by politician's, but by

the young men and women in the militaryserving their country.

This country needs Old Timers with

their work ethic, sense of responsibility, pride in their country and decent values.

We need them now more than ever.

Thank God for Old Timers! Pass this on to

all the "Old Timers" you know.

I was taught to respect my elders... It's just getting harder to

    find them.

pd ths...I used to eat a lot of natural foods

until I learned that most people die

    of natural causes.

There are two kinds of pedestrians...

    the quick and the dead.

    Life is sexually transmitted.

    Healthy is merely the slowest

possible rate at which one can die.

The only difference between a rut

and a grave is the depth.

Health nuts are going to feel

    stupid someday, lying in hospitals

    dying of nothing.

    Have you noticed since everyone

has a camcorder these days no one

talks about seeing UFOs like they

    used to?

Whenever I feel blue, I start

    breathing again.

All of us could take a lesson from

the weather. It pays no attention to

    criticism.

In the 60's, people took acid to

make the world weird. Now the

world is weird and people take

    Prozac to make it normal..

How is it one careless match can

start a forest fire, but it takes a

whole box to start a campfire?

Who was the first person to look

at a cow and say, 'I think I'll

    squeeze these dangly things and

    drink whatever comes out?'

If Jimmy cracks corn and no

one cares, why is there a song

    about him?

    Why does your OB-GYN leave

the room when you get undressed

if they are going to look anyway?

If quizzes are quizzical, what are

    tests?

If corn oil is made from corn and

    vegetable oil is made from

vegetables, then what is baby oil

    made from?

Do illiterate people get the full

    effect of Alphabet Soup?

    Does pushing the elevator button

more than once make it arrive

    quicker?

Why doesn't glue stick to the

    inside of the bottle?

    Congratulations to The

    Huntington Beach

    International Surfing

    Museum for recently celebrating 23

    Fabulous Years in Huntington

    Beach. Their special anniversary

party was held on Sunday, June 20th

at the Museum with a Concert in the

    Parking Lot, featuring the incredible

    Muertones and the Tahiti Shuttle

    Experiment. Many downtown

    businesses contributed food,

    including Cold Stone Creamery,

Beachfront 301, Tuna Town, Pizza Hut

    and Fred's Mexican Cafe.

This event, attended by more than

200, kicked off an exciting new new

    exhibit, "The

    Foam Years,"

    ( w h e nsurfboards went

    from being

    made out of

    wood to a

    lighter, more

    f l e x i b l e

    material-foam).

    The interesting

    d i s p l a y s

    spotlight three

    internationally-

    k n o w n

Surfboard Shapers: Bill Holden of HB,

Bob McTavish of Australia, and Hobart

"Hobie" Alter of Laguna Beach. Be sure

and see their boards, photos, notes and

    lots more interesting memorabilia.

    Also at the celebratiion, the

    legendary Ann Beasley, World

    Ambassador for HBISM, presented her

    Yearly Endowment Award to Dave

Reynolds for all his work helping the

    museum over the years. Congratulations

Dave, Well Deserved! Attending the very

    fun festivities, were Huntington Beach

    City Councilman Joe Carchio, Huntington

    Beach City Treasurer Shari Freidenrich,

    HBISM Board Members John Lyman,

Paul Taylor, Dan McCoy, Miff Clowe,

Gary Sahagen, Lee Love, Jodi McKay,

Cindy Cross ,Lisa Karos and Linda Miller

(the events director, who's capably assisted

    by her husband, John.)

    Helping raise funds at the

    gathering was Historian Craig

MacDonald, who donated much of the

proceeds from the sale of his acclaimed

new book, "Gold Rush Glimpses III"

(on outlaws, inspirations and extremesports) to the HBISM. It's available in

the gift store. He has served as a docent

    and museum volunteer.

If you haven't been to the museum

lately, come and check it out. The

history is authentic from exhibits on the

Duke of Kahanamoku, who loved to

surf in HB, to famed guitarist Dick

Dale, who has always loved Surf City

USA, to Dean Torrance of Jan & Dean.

It also has an exceptional gift store,

    perfect for birthday, anniversary and

holiday gifts, with many unique festive

items from nicely designed T-shirts to

Surf DVDs & musical cds to a variety of

    fascinating books.

    The museum remains successful

because of the devotion of many

volunteers, such as Natalie Kotsch, who

came to Huntington Beach many years

ago from Canada. She never surfed but

thought our city needed a Surfing

Museum to explain the city's storied

surfing past and present. She started the

museum in her former Real Estate

Office on Main Street, then it grew and

moved to three other spots, including

the art decor building it's now in at 411

Olive Ave. If you have any questions

If any of you have ever been to a military funeral inwhich taps was played; this brings out a new

meaning of it.Here is something Every American should know.

Until I read this, I didn't know, but I checked it out andit's true:

We in the United States have all heard the

haunting song, 'Taps.' It's the song that gives us the lumpin our throats and usually tears in our eyes.

But, do you know the story behind the song? Ifnot, I think you will be interested to find out about its

    humble beginnings.

Reportedly, it all began in 1862 during the CivilWar, when Union Army Captain

Robert Ellicombe was with hismen near Harrison's Landing

in Virginia . TheConfederate Army was on

the other side of the narrow

strip of land.During the night, Captain

Ellicombe heard the moans of asoldier who lay severely

    wounded on the

    field. Notknowing if it

    was a Uniono r

    Confederatesoldier, the

    C a p t a i n

    decided torisk his life

    and bringthe stricken

    man back

    for medicalattention. Crawling on his

stomach through the gunfire, the Captain reached thestricken soldier and began pulling him toward his

encampment. When the Captain finally reached his own lines, he

discovered it was actually a Confederate soldier, but the

soldier was dead. The Captain lit a lantern and suddenly caught his

breath and went numb with shock. In the dim light, hesaw the face of the soldier. It was his own son. The boy

had been studying music in the South when the war

broke out. Without telling his father, the boy enlisted inthe Confederate Army.

The following morning, heartbroken, the fatherasked permission of his superiors to give his son a full

military burial, despite his enemy status. His request was only partially granted.

The Captain had asked if he could have a group of

Army band members play a funeral dirge for his son atthe funeral.

The request was turned down since the soldier wasa Confederate.

But, out of respect for the father, they did say they

    could give him onlyone musician.

The Captain chosea bugler. He asked the

bugler to play a seriesof musical notes he had

    found on a piece of

paper in the pocket ofthe dead youth's

    uniform.This wish was granted.

The haunting melody, we now know as 'Taps' used

at military funerals was born. The words are:

    Day is done.Gone the sun.

    From the lakesFrom the hills.

    From the sky.

    All iswell.

    Safelyrest.

    God is nigh.

    Fading light.

    Dims the sight..

    And a star.Gems the sky.

    Gleaming bright.

    From afar.Drawing nigh.

    Falls the night.

    Thanks and praise.

    For our days.Neath the sun.

    Neath the stars.

    Neath the sky.As we go.

    This we know.

God is nigh.I too have felt the chills while listening to 'Taps'

but I have never seen all the words to the song untilnow. I didn't even know there was more than one

verse . I also never knew the story behind the song

and I didn't know if you had either so I thought I'd pass it along.

I now have an even deeper respect for the songthan I did before.

Remember Those Lost and Harmed WhileServing Their Country.

Also Remember Those Who Have Served And

Returned; and for those presently serving in theArmed Forces.

Please send this on after a short prayer. Makethis a Prayer wheel for our soldiers... please don't

    break it. I didn't!

We're running this story with the hope that someone knows someone who knows someone...serving indigent

communities or perhaps India Reservations, or desert area...Do you know a great country doctor? The kind

of physician who still makes house calls and accepts the occasional apple pie or roast turkey for a fee?

If so, he or she may qualify as the 2010 Country Doctor of the Year. Presented by Staff Care, Inc., a national health

care staffing firm based in Irving, Texas, the Country Doctor of the Year Award honors the spirit, skill and dedication

    of Americas rural medical practitioners.

Now in its 18th year, the Country Doctor of the Year Award has been presented to renowned rural physicians such

as Dr. Claire Louise Caudill (now deceased), a legendary Kentucky physician who delivered over 10,000 babies in her

career, and to Dr. Elton Lehman, of Mount Eaton, Ohio, who is known for his dedicated treatment of Amish patients.

In 2009, the award was presented to Dr. Steven Smith of Marathon, Florida. Past recipients of the award have been

featured in numerous national media outlets, including USA Today, People, Parade and The Today Show.

As part of the award, Staff Care will provide the 2010 Country Doctor of the Year with a temporary physician for

two weeks at no charge, so the award recipient can take time away from his or her practice, a service valued at $10,000.

According to Staff Care. President Tim Boes, rural doctors often cannot find physicians to cover their practices and so

    have difficulty taking vacations.

Nominations for the 2010 Country Doctor of the Year Award will be accepted for physicians who practice in

communities of 20,000 or less and who are engaged in such primary care areas as general practice, family practice,

internal medicine, and pediatrics. Anyone can nominate a physician, including friends, patients, co-workers or family

members, and all stories or anecdotes about the physicians practice are welcomed.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Country Doctor of the Year Award web site at

www.countrydoctoraward.com, or you may call Staff Care for a nomination form at (800) 685-2272. Completed

nominations must be received no later than October 15, 2010.

    Arnaud Dufour

On Monday, June 14th, Moodys Investors

Service became the second major agency to

downgrade Greeces bond status to junk.

Standard & Poors did the same in April of this year.

    Foreign debt has been

    the largest force shaping

    the global financial

    markets over the last few

    months. Portugal, Spain,

    Turkey and (of course)

    Greece have each had their

    turn taking financial

    criticism. Each time their

    debt gets downgraded,

    these countries need to pay

    a higher rate on their

    national debt. This is very

    similar to an individual

    whos FICO score

    plummets and credit card

    companies charge 22% rate

    of interest instead of the

    7% or 8% that individual

    was previously accustomed

to. The benefit for us is that

    these other countries have

made the USAs creditgrade appear better by

    comparison. This has been

    perhaps the single largest

    factor leading into the new

    record low rates we are

    currently experiencing.

So what causes an entire countrys credit grade to

be dinged? Just as in consumer lending, global investors

question ones ability to repay the debt. The primary

measure of a consumers ability to repay a loan is their

Debt to Income Ratio. This calculation is a measure

of the amount of money owed (debt) versus the total

amount of money earned (income). On a national scale,

this is measured in the exact same way by comparing

total debt to Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Greeces debt to GDP ratio is 170.5%. This is the

equivalent of a person making $50,000 per year having

$85,000 in debt. Surprisingly, this only puts Greece as

16th worst in the world according to a recent article on

    http://www.cnbc.com/id/30308959/The_World_s_Bigg

    est_Debtor_Nations.

    There are 15 other

    countries who,

    according to this

    measure of financial

    stability, are in worse

    shape than Greece.

    Other countries whose

    debts have made

    headlines recently

    include Spain (14th

    worst) with a debt to

    GDP Ratio of 186.1%,

    and Portugal (10th

    worst) with a ratio of

    235.9%. Hungary,

    whose national debt

    sent global markets

    crashing earlier in

    June, is in 19th place

    at 121.9%.

    Amazingly, the

USA ranks 20th worston the national debt

    risk list only 1 spot

    behind than recently-

    infamous Hungary.

    Our debt to GDP ratio,

    which was only 63% in

2007, has since ballooned to over 95%. Of greater

concern is the rate at which that debt is growing. We

are projected to surpass 103% within the next two

years. Crossing the 100% Debt to GDP ratio would

put the USA at risk for having its credit grade

demoted, leading towards higher interest rates for the

country and all consumers within it. An additional

concern would be the replacement of the dollar as a

global currency. This would add increased pressure on

inflation and further compound the increase in rates.

    This would be a double-whammy

that any economy would have a

    tough time absorbing.

    For decades our country has

been living beyond its means. Weve

    become dependent on foreign

    investors to finance our

    economic way of life.

    Weve certainly had fun

    playing with other

    peoples money, but

    when the collector comes

knocking well be in for a

world of hurt. Until then our current administration is

increasing the national debt at record levels. The bond

auctions from the US Treasury are on the order of $100

Billion every month, or $1.2 5 Trillion per year. At some

point, the Federal Government will have to trim the fat

and balance a budget. The only question is: How long

will it take, and will it be in time?

By the way, ever since the government took over

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac the maximum DTI for

American Homeowners was cut to 45% - deeming that

any ratio higher than this was simply too risky.

Previously Fannie and Freddie would approve debt

ratios as high as 60%. Obviously the politicians are

aware that too much debt equates to too much risk. I just hope these politicians will begin following their

own advice before our national credit grade gets

demoted and our entire country is forced to pay higher

    interest rates.

    AOL Health Editors write..."Oatmeal isn't

the only food that will lower cholesterol.

Nuts help do the job, too. That's the word

from researchers at Loma Linda University School

of Public Health in California, who

    have concluded that eating nuts

    reduces the so-called "bad" LDL

cholesterol and improves theblood lipids profile.

    Led by Dr. Joan

    Sabate, the team

    collected data on 583

    men and women who

    had participated in 25 nut

    consumption trials in which

they consumed 2.3 ounces of nuts

a day, on average, over a period of

three to eight weeks. In these 25 trials,

nut-eaters were compared to a control

group that did not eat nuts. None of the

participants took medication to lower blood lipids.

The results? Eating 2.3 ounces of nuts a day,

which is about one-third of a cup, reduced total

cholesterol levels by 5.1 percent and "bad" LDL

cholesterol by 7.4 percent. Eating nuts also

improved the ratio of LDL cholesterol to "good"

HDL cholesterol by 8.3 percent and caused a

decrease of 10.2 percent in triglyceride levels

among people with high levels of those blood fats,

reports HealthDay News. Best of all, the benefits

of eating nuts remained for a long time.

Interestingly, the study found that cholesterol-

lowering benefits from eating nuts, which are

packed with protein and dietary fiber, are highest

    for three groups of people:

    those who are thin or of normal weight;

    those with high LDL "bad" cholesterol;

those who already consume a fat-rich diet.

What kind of nuts are best for

    lowering cholesterol? Any kind will

do! Sabata told HealthDay News that

the type of nuts eaten doesn't seem tomatter. The study found

    essentially the same results

    for walnuts, almonds,

    peanuts, pecans, hazelnuts,

    macadamias and pistachios.

"Nuts are a matrix of healthy

    nutrients, and the most

    obvious reason for the

    cholesterol-lowering effect

    is their unsaturated fat

    content," Sabate said. "Nuts also

    contain fiber, vegetable protein, phytoesterols

    and other antioxidants."

The big gotcha: Nuts are high in calories and

can be high in salt so it's important not to eat too

much or it can lead to obesity. Tip: Choose

unsalted nuts. Sabate advises eating no more than

three ounces a day, and some nutritionists believe

the daily limit is one ounce. One ounce is the

equivalent of 22 walnuts, which is about 150

    calories.

The study, which was carried out by

independent researchers, was partly funded by the

International Tree Nut Council Nutrition Research

and Education Foundation. Findings were reported

in the Archives of Internal Medicine."

    Medal of Honor recipient, Walter

Ehlers, was recently a lunch guest

at Station 5-Lake. Mr. Ehlers is

one of less than 100 Medal of Honor

recipients. He served in World War II in

North Africa, Sicily, and Normandy. He was

wounded 4 separate times. His brother was

killed on Omaha Beach. Several years ago,

Fire Captain Dave Ferguson began inviting

    various decorated military veterans to

luncheons at the fire station in an effort to

    educate other firefighters about the

    service and sacrifice given to

    this country by these

    individuals. These war

    heroes recount theirfascinating war stories

    while being honored with a

    specially prepared lunch in

the fire station. We tip our hat

    to HBFD, Fire Captain

Dave Ferguson and themean and women of our

    Michelle Ruiz (AOL) reports:..."The

White House hasn't awarded a Medalof Honor to a living soldier since the

    Vietnam War, but that

could soon change. U.S.military officials have

recommended a veteranof the war in Afghanistan

for the nation's highesthonor for valor, according

to media reports. The Army soldier saved

the lives of about half a

dozen men by runningthrough a wall of enemy fire

in an attempt to defend hissquad from Taliban fighters

in Afghanistan's KorengalValley in fall 2007, according

to The Washington Post. The veteran's name

has not been released as a

    final decision is pending.

(However, sources closeto the Local News say itis: SSG Salvatore Giunta,

    a paratrooper w/ the173rd Airborne)

    An Army soldier may be

the first living soldier since theVietnam War to receive the Medal of Honor, pending

a decision by the White House. The Medal of Honor is more commonly

awarded posthumously, a fact that has been lamentedby top officials, including former President George

    W. Bush, who voiced his disappointment with neverhaving the opportunity to honor the heroism of a

    living Medal of Honor recipient.

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates "finds it

impossible to believe that there is no one who hasperformed a valorous act deserving of the Medal of

Honor who has lived to tell

    about it," Pentagonspokesman Geoff Morrell

told the Post.If the White House

declines to honor theliving soldier with a

Medal of Honor, it couldstill present another

    decoration such as a

    silver star.Only six Medals of

Honor have beenawarded in the nine

years since the wars inIraq and Afghanistan

began, all posthumously.Three of the six jumped

    on grenades, sacrificing

    their lives to save fellow

    troops, The AssociatedPress reported.

    Awarding the Medal

of Honor to a livingsoldier could provide a

    morale boost to weary

troops and allow PresidentBarack Obama to publicly honor a hero of the

military in the ninth year of the war."There has been a certain emotion that is almost

like martyrdom within the military," Richard Kohn,a military historian at the University of North

Carolina, told the Post. "It's a feeling that they aresacrificing a great deal while the rest of the country

    is going about its business."

"Investigators from Sacramento toSan Diego are searching for more

    victims of 60-year-old, Richard "Butch"

Guillen, the Santa Rosa, California bus driver

arrested for molesting a 13-year-old boy.

According to a source close to the

investigation, Guillen introduced himself tothe mother of the victim, presenting himself as

a perfect choice to befriend and mentor her

son, who was in need of a father figure.

Their friendship took the two on an

    overnight excursion to Sacramento the

weekend of February 19th, 2010, wherealcohol was introduced. The molestation

took place in a motel room where the two

    were staying.

Investigators are concerned that this isn't

the first time Guillen has been innapropriate

    with a minor.From 1980 to 1995 Guillen spent his

time between Orange County and San Diego

County as a Coach for youth baseball and

skateboarding. He also coached surfing in

    Imperial and Huntington Beach.

Investigators confiscated a computerGuillen's home. Almost 8,000 photos from of

kids playing different sports were found on

    the hard drive.

boys U13 (soon to be U14) at the beach.

The tournament was intended to improve

conditioning and to let the team have some fun.

The team had a great time, improved their

conditioning and strength and won the

    championship.

On the weekend of June 26-27th, 2010, a

combined team of 11 players from SC United

Black and Red teams participated in the

Huntington Beach Sand Soccer tournament. Theteam is made up of boys from: Laguna Hills,

Mission Viejo, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Niguel,

Trabuco Canyon, and San Clemente, California.

The first match for the boys was against

Xtreme Black of Huntington Beach. SC United

BU14 came out on top 3:2.In the next two games, the now very

confident the SC team posted two very

convincing shutouts, beating Apple Valley Storm

(5:0) and the Claremont Stars (4:0) winning their

pool on their way to the final.

In the Final game, the boys were matched up

against a very strong team, the Xtreme Gunners,

who scored the first goal. SC United came back

to tie the game, just to have the Gunners score

once again before the half. In the second, the half

boys showed their character and determination bytying the game once again with a score of 2:2 and

    holding defensively against constant Gunners

attack. In a penalty shootout SC goalkeeper

Jordan Caradonna led boys to a great win with 3

    penalty saves.

    EarthTalk:

    I heard

    about a supposed

    dangerous chemical called

triclosan that is in many personal care and

other consumer products. Can you enlighten?

    - Carl Stoneman, Richland, WA

    Triclosan is a synthetic chemical

compound added to many personal and

household care products to inhibit illness by

preventing bacterial infection. It works by

breaking down the biochemical pathways that

bacteria use to keep their cell walls intact, and

as such kills potentially harmful germs if used

    in strong enough formulations. First

developed as a surgical scrub back in 1972,

triclosan is now used in upwards of 700

    different consumer-oriented products, many

of which people use more than once a day.

    They include hand soaps, deodorants,

toothpastes, kids toys, yoga mats and, of

    course, hand sanitizers.

Whether triclosan is actually as effective

as advertised, especially in the small doses

found in consumer products, is a topic of much

debate. Manufacturers insist that the product helps reduce

infections. But researchers from the University of

Michigans School of Public Health found, after

surveying 27 different studies conducted between 1980

and 2006 on the effectiveness of antibacterial soaps, that

washing hands with products containing triclosan was no

more effective in preventing infectious illnessand did

not remove any more bacteriathan plain soaps. The

analysis, Consumer Antibacterial Soaps: Effective or

Just Risky? was published in 2007 in the peer-reviewed

journal, Clinical Infectious Diseases. According to lead

researcher Allison Aiello, triclosanbecause of the way

it reacts in living cellsmay cause some bacteria

exposed to it to become resistant to amoxicillin and other

commonly used antibacterial drugs, but she adds that

more research is needed to bear out this hypothesis.

Anti-bacterial soaps and other products utilizing

triclosan may in fact be doing more harm than good for

the people who use it regularly. According to the non-

profit Beyond Pesticides, triclosan has been linked to

various human health problems. It is associated with

skin irritation, has been shown to interfere with the

bodys hormones, and has been linked to an increased

risk of developing respiratory illness, or asthma, and

cancer, as well as subtle effects on learning ability,

reports the group, adding that 75 percent of Americans

are walking around today with trace levels of triclosan in

their bloodstreams. Tests using lab animals have verified

that exposure to large doses of triclosan can cause

irreparable health damage, but industry representatives

say that the levels found in consumer products are much

    too small to do so.

Beyond its potential human health effects, triclosan

can also harm the environment. According to Beyond

Pesticides, some 96 percent of the triclosan

from consumer products is washed down drains

where it flows into wastewater treatment plants

often ill-equipped to deal with it. Inevitably

some of the triclosan escapes treatment and is

released into local waterways, where exposure

to sunlight can convert it into dioxins, a highly

toxic group of chemicals responsible for

    contaminating waterways and wreaking havoc

    on wildlife.

While the U.S. Food and Drug

Administration is finally taking a fresh look at

triclosan after years of controversy, consumers

can do their part by asking the places they shop

to stop selling products containing the

    controversial chemical additive. The Beyond

    Pesticides website offers a customizable

sample letter designed to help consumers

convince local retailers to forego stocking

    items with triclosan.

The Sangria has been popular drink in Europe for

hundred years. The basic recipe consists of Spanish

wine, Rioja, and fruits. In some Europe countries

used claret or Bordeaux. It occurs during maybe 1800s. The Sangria

make its first appearance in America in 1964 at the World's Fair in New

York. The Sangria began to spread in America.

Today to this day, there are many different

recipes. Fruits mainly are oranges, apples, and

lemons. It does not necessary restricts to the

ingredient or red wine and fruits. Some people add

rum, brandy, or even vodka to the Sangria.

When you see the Sangria with the words

following,Sangria Blanco, it means that Sangria is

making from white wine. As you know your basic

Spanish, blanco means white. Sangria Blanco

maybe will align with fruits that such as kiwis,

    peaches, or mangos.

Really, there is no rule on how to make

Sangria. The rough guideline of Sangria making is

wine and fruits mixture. To refine your recipe, you

may use another alcohol, fruit juice, soda water,

sparking water, and/or even use sugar.

The restaurants have their own recipe. The

Sangria you drank is the bar's best kept secret

recipe, the most traditional and authentic drink. I

must say you have found the hidden treasure in

the Spain. Frankly, The bar next door will have

Sangria. I regret to said, lot of them are making

it cheap due to mass of tourists want to taste the

true Spanish therefore the bar want to have large

quantity and sells it 8 time the cost in order to

    make profit.

You will be surprise how easy and inexpensive Sangria can be

made. I am not said it is a cheap drink. It happens to be cheap by nature

and it is great and fun to drink. You get alcohol, fruits and combine it

together. You let it melds just like you marinates your food. That is the

    Sangria you drink.

This seems unreal... WE WILL NEVERSEE THIS HAPPEN AGAIN.. ever.

Harry Truman was a different kind ofPresident. He probably made as many, or

    more important decisions regarding our

nation's history as any of the other 42Presidents preceding him. However, a

measure of his greatness may rest on what hedid after he left the White House.

The only asset he had when he died wasthe house he lived in, which was in

    Independence Missouri. His wife had

inherited the house from her mother andfather and other than their years in the White

House, they lived their entire lives there. When he retired from office in 1952, his

income was a U.S. Army pension reported to

have been $13,507.72 a year. Congress, noting that he was paying for his stamps and

personally licking them, granted him an'allowance' and, later, a retroactive pension of

$25,000 per year. After President Eisenhower was

inaugurated, Harry and Bess drove home to

Missouri by themselves. There was no SecretService following them.

When offered corporate positions at largesalaries, he declined, stating, "You don't want

me. You want the office of the President, and

that doesn't belong to me. It belongs to theAmerican people and it's not for sale.."

Even later, on May 6, 1971, whenCongress was preparing to award him the

Medal of Honor on his 87th birthday, he

refused to accept it, writing, "I don't considerthat I have done anything which should be the

reason for any award, Congressional orotherwise."

As president he paid for all of his owntravel expenses and food.

Modern politicians have found a new

level of success in cashing in on thePresidency, resulting in untold wealth. Today,

many in Congress also have found a way to become quite wealthy while enjoying the

fruits of their offices. Political offices are now

for sale. (sic. Illinois )Good old Harry Truman was correct

when he observed, "My choices in life wereeither to be a piano player in a whore house or

a politician. And to tell the truth, there's hardlyany difference!

I say dig him up and clone him!!

This is not sent for discussion. If youagree, forward it.. If you don't, discard it. I

don't want to know one way or the other. Byme forwarding it, you know how I feel. Enjoy

life now-it has an expiration date!
