Development/Presenting:

1.      In the Church we have special days and times of the year that are important too.

2.      We remember and celebrate these times in the Liturgy (ppt slide) Discuss definition.

3.      Also includes Liturgy of the Hours (ppt slide) (A prayer, parts of which the Church prays at various times during the day and night – show Liturgy of Hours book… also online, ebreviary.com)

4.      In the liturgy we remember and rejoice in Jesus’ life – so we call the Church year… the liturgical year. (ppt slide) We remember Jesus’ birth, younger years, public ministry, his suffering, death and resurrection and ascension into heaven. We also honor Mary, the Mother of God and all the Saints.

5.      Show and discuss liturgical year http://www.cccbpublications.ca/site/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/YG1-0LL.jpg Have students name and tell about each season, when it is, how long, why it is important, colors. Use http://www.webelieveweb.com/liturgical_year.cfm as visual.

6.      The entire liturgical year is constructed around Easter. Easter Sunday always follows the full moon after the spring equinox (equinox is the day the sun crosses the equator!) Connect to Resurrection of Christ, whose rising brings light to the world! Easter Sunday is always between march 27 and April 25. Using the calendar, when will Easter be in 2011? (April 24) When will Lent be in 2011? (March 7 – count back 6 weeks!)

MemorareMemorareRemember, most loving Virgin Mary, never was it heard that anyone who

turned to you for help was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, though burdened by my sins,

I run to your protection for you are my mother.

Mother of the Word of God, do not despise my words of

pleading, but be merciful and hear my prayer.

Amen.
