As these events grow over the years, so will your recognition for supporting the Eastlink Centre.

Lastly, if you have an idea for how you envision your sponsorship working best for you. Contact me directly and lets make the perfect customized Sponsorship package to suit you. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello! It’s finally time to focus on sunshine and warm weather. Our staff has planned a wide variety of summer programs and services. The skateboard park will be opening soon and with that, comes lots of activity. Watch for our new skate surf shred coming in August, our first ever summer skate and surf competition. We are ready for sum-mer visitors, summer day camps, and the busyness the facility will encounter in summer 2014. We hope you make us a tourist stop when you have family and friends in Grande Prairie visiting.

Our new benches and tables arrived and are placed throughout the building. Comments have been filled with appre-ciation for the additional seating. Make sure to sit and stay awhile.

Our terrible twos are over and the hic-cups that we all have experienced are under control. Mechanical issues, defi-ciencies, and contaminations are minimal. Our parking situation is even going to improve this year with additional stalls being added over the summer months.

2014 has already proven to be a great year. New and returning members are enjoying the newest perks and services we offer.

Each department has developed their own mission statement to reflect their purpose and to inspire them and the guests visiting their area. Please take a moment to ask our staff ques-tions about their Vision they’ve developed. We will be happy to share the reasons and inspiration behind each one.

Have a wonderful spring and summer season. Be safe and happy and make lots of wonderful memories with friends and family.

When asked to write a testimonial about this class, I thought: how can I possibly put in writing the changes this class has made for me.

I am very overweight and suffer from a multitude of problems including a tear in my rotator cuff, chronic myofacial pain syn-drome, arthritis, bursitis, degen-erative hip, a protruding disc, fibromyalgia ... well the list goes

on and on. I started Transformation Plus knowing that I had to do something to lose the weight but needed some-thing that could be modified if need be. I have been going to this class now for 7 weeks and the changes both physically and mentally are amazing!

I watch how Linda interacts with each of us and how she is truly proud of us when we complete something. She does not force us to do it if it hurts, but instead shows us how to do it modified.

If the modified exercise still hurts then she finds another exercise. I am amazed with the level of compas-sion for each and every one of us. At each class Linda shows her genuine pas-sion for what she does! Each class we grow stronger and we owe it all to Linda, who never once gave up on any of us for not being able to do something!

I started this class and could barely do a lap around the track; now I can do 3, 4 or sometimes 5. I’m so amazed with myself! There’s so much more that I can do now and my pain is drastically reduced. I no longer take pain meds, as I know how to control it myself. I owe everything to this class, I got my life back. All because Linda believed in me, like she does each and every person who comes in that door. This class would be a huge benefit to anyone with weight issues or injuries.

I seriously cannot thank Linda enough!

of his activity even provoked him to join his school basketball team in junior high at Alexander Forbes and this has kept him motivated to stick with exercising.

Following the Eastlink Centre motto of “All Day, Everyday,” JJ moved into trying a variety of activities, such as swimming with friends and basketball with one of his brothers in the Fieldhouse. “I’ve come here so much, I’ve done a lot.” His next step is to eventually try squash or racquetball. “I like that it’s a really big facility and there’s lots of different things to do. It’s not like you just come here for one thing. I come here every day, mostly all day.”

all things Eastlink Centre

At just 15 years old, Jerry Joseph Robinson, or JJ as he is referred to, is realizing the importance of making healthy choices. After encouragement from his mother and frequent visits to The Leisure Centre in previous years, JJ started living those healthy habits way back in June of 2012. His first experi-ence at the Eastlink Centre was with the Free FM FlowRider, now one of his now favorite activities.

Facing a lot of ups and downs with his own self-esteem, JJ went from 175lbs down to 155lbs in just over a year of activity. Before he didn’t want to par-ticipate, and didn’t want to put himself out there with other teens, “I didn’t like going for runs with other people. I was just slower than everybody.”

Now being an active teen has given him more energy and confidence in his every-day life. “I can keep up with them, I don’t feel left out or slowing anybody down.” All

Healthy Habits Nurtured at Eastlink Centre15 Year-Old Teen finds self-confidence at Community Recreation Facility

Eastlink Centre is a fantastic place for children and youth to spend their free time in active play. A place where kids can come out to play. We strive to help the our youngsters grow into happy health conscious adults. Children and youth can get their own memberships to be used everyday!

Invest in a healthy lifestyle for life.

Come grow with us.

The importance of customer service reigns quite highly with JJ as well. “I like that when there’s a problem, it gets dealt with in a quick and easy manner, like you’re not waiting around.” He said. “…People are always eager to help you, there’s good customer service. I know that’s a big thing for me.”

JJ continues to renew his mem-bership yearly and his hopes for Eastlink Centre in the future are to have more scheduled games for kids his age. JJ is continu-ing on his journey to a healthy lifestyle by biking everywhere, walking his dogs, and still pursu-ing his hobbies such as wood working. And of course he will continue to visit the Eastlink Centre on a regular basis.

for the service that is provided and thank you for positively affecting our economy by making it possible for parents to feel comfortable leaving the most important part of themselves with someone else whether it be for 1 hour or 4.

Thank you for creating a consistent environment for our children even under the most unpleasant circumstances, dirty diapers, runny noses ... etc. You provide our children with continuous education by researching fun and different educational tools, activities and lessons, and I’m extremely proud that my children get to be a part of this!

Thank you for being patient with all of the different personalities as children can be quite a handful, and as a mama of 4 children I love that you too love and care for my children as I do. - Josie Backe

Hi There!! My name is Cheryl Montgomery and I am the Marketing and Events Manager here at Eastlink Centre. I have been involved with the

has been working alongside some of the most dedicated people, whose sole pur-pose is to make ELC the best facility we possibly can for our community. Rome wasn’t built in a day, but as we move forward we know we are moving in the right direction.

In my real life, I am a Mom to two grown daughters, with two beautiful grand-daughters who fill my life with joy. I love to travel, enjoy the cabin and challenge myself with crazy challenges like the Death Race. I love to give back to the community I grew up in, through Rotary and other volunteer endeavours.

Katie ShawCustomer Service Representative SupervisorHi! My name is Katie Shaw; I work at

the front admin desk as a team supervi-sor. I have been at Eastlink Centre since it opened and before that I worked at The Leisure Centre. I enjoy coming to work every day.

My position at Eastlink Centre has pro-vided me with many positive life skills as well has given me the tools to better aid our amazing customers. I am very lucky to have had the opportunity over the last four years to have built some great friendships. It’s not very often that you look forward to coming into work every day because of the people you work alongside with. I consider myself pretty LUCKY! Needless to say because I enjoy being here I pretty much live here. If I am not working I spend most of my free time

working out with my favourite personal trainer Gabe! After seeing remarkable results in only 3 months, I would definitely recommend any one of our personal train-ers, especially if you are like me and need that little bit of a push and guidance. If I am not working or work-ing out then I am usually watching my youngest sister Erin swim with the Piranhas so “YEP” I pretty much live here at the Eastlink Centre.

Just a little about me…I have lived in Grande Prairie for 6 years and after a while I can say it’s finally growing on me. The hot holidays every year really help with the winter blues. I am recently en-

gaged and am starting to plan my destination wedding for next year; it’s a lot of work but super exciting.

Hope to see you around the facility. ~ Katie Shaw
