Anticipation of Thanksgiving and

Christmas begins- My birthday (Oct. 15,

around the corner.

But also, September is the time when

we take a fresh look at our Service for

the Lord.

May I share “Seven Principles of

1. Servant leaders humble themselves

and wait for God to exalt them. (Phil. 1-

2) (Col. 3:23-24)

2. Servant leaders follow Jesus rather

than seek a position. (Mt. 6:33) “Seek

3. Servant leaders give up personal

rights to find greatness in service to

others. (Ro. 12:16-17)

4. Servant leaders can risk serving

others because they trust that God is in

control of their lives. (Ro. 8:28)

5. Servant leaders take up Jesus’ towel

of servanthood to meet the needs of

others. (Jn. 13:3-10)

6. Servant leaders share their

responsibility and authority with others

to meet a greater need. (Eph. 4:3)

UNITY… (Phil. 2:1-4)

7. Servant leaders multiply their

leadership by empowering others to

lead. (2 Tim. 2:1-3)

Have a Blessed September!

Church Conference Summary 8/21/16 Nominating Committee Report for 2016-2017 was approved as printed with one correction. Delete Lynn Hamblen from Children’s Church and Insert Jean Beelendorf. A copy is available in the church office. Reach Committee: Trunk or Treat will be Sunday, October 23. This will enable us to reach more children/parents, etc. since it will be a different time from other churches/organizations. Audio/Visual Committee: Still Searching for additional personnel. What about YOU?

New Business: The Long Range Planning Committee presented an Intermediate

Report for review, discussion, and questions. Suggestions are encouraged. See insert

in the September issue of The Link. Vote will be taken at September 18 Church

Conference.

News From The AP… I am excited to see what God is doing in the life of Garden City Baptist Church. A BIG

thanks to the Planning Team that met for several weeks to devise a plan for short-term and

long-term goals for our church. Please take time to look over the plans and prayerfully

consider the findings of the team. I wanted to comment a little further on a couple of the

ideas.

1. The Discovery Class is a great idea. So many visitors attend our services each week

wanting to know what we are about as a church. Through this class, we will be able to

connect with them and give them a better idea of the mission, vision, and values without

them feeling like they have to join.

2. One of the things I am very excited about is the New Members Class. It will be required

for all people who are wanting to join the church. According to Charles Arn’s research, “Over

80% of people who leave the church do so within 6 months of their membership. One of the

most effective ways to keep members according to the findings of Arn and Chuck Lawless

(both church growth experts) is through a New Members Class. We will teach things such

as the basic Baptist doctrine, expectations of church members, and help them find a place

to serve.

Please keep ALL the Planning Team’s findings in your prayers. God is doing a great work

here, and their plans are going to help keep us moving forward as a church!

Serving Him,

Jordan

This year’s average Sunday School attendance has been 183 which is 8.3% greater than last year. Our Sunday School enrollment is 321 and is 10.3% greater than last year. On 10-2, the deacons will cook breakfast and we want to designate that Sunday to celebrate our successful 2015/2016 Sunday School year. (1) We want to make that high attendance Sunday. Our most recent high was 218 on 1/24/16 (2) Also, that Sunday, let’s “show your team colors.” If you are for Clemson, South Carolina, Coastal Carolina, any other college or professional team wear something showing your allegiance. Pastor Bob said he is going to wear a Garden City Baptist tee shirt!! (3) It will be okay to wear your colors during the worship service. (4) More information later! May God bless you Tim

WOMEN’S MINISTRY LUAU - Everyone had a good time at

our Luau that was held a couple of weeks ago. There was

everyone can enjoy their Labor Day Weekend! But I do look

It’s been a great month in student ministry. 17 students were a part of Move-Up Wednesday, and over 30 students, parents, and leaders were a part of our Vision Breakfast. Here are a few events this month that we are excited about: Fall Kick-Off – September 7th, 6:30-7:30 p.m. We will be having a football themed night and kicking off a new series in the Gospel of John. Intentional Weekend – September 16th-17th Our goal with this event is to help students understand through a combination of Christian apologetics study and service projects, that they were created purposely for a purpose. More details to come… Trip to Ground Zero Block Party – September 24th, 4-9 p.m. See You At The Pole – September 28th, 7:00 a.m. While this event is not planned by student ministry, we encourage all students to be a part of this international day of student prayer. Students will gather at the flagpole of their school to prayer for their classmates, teachers, churches, communities, and nation. Thank you for your continued prayer for this ministry. Have a blessed September.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

SEPTEMBER 7TH, 6:00-7:30 p.m.

It's been another busy summer with high electric bills. With fall approaching, we will start working towards Thanksgiving and Christmas--a very exciting time of year. Thanks to everyone who bring food each week. It is much appreciated.

South Strand Helping Hand & South Strand Mobile Meals

We’re getting ready for a Packing Party October 8. Please contribute monetary donations so items for the boxes can be purchased. Last year, we donated items and ended up with too many of some items and not enough of others to complete boxes. As we donate, for each $25 collected, $7 will be set aside for shipping to the final destination and items for the box will be purchased with the remaining money. All donations are appreciated. This isn’t to replace our own personalized boxes that we build each year!
