First of all, thank you! thank you for clicking through and reading the first ever issue of the Line, or at least to page 3. We created this publication to support local

main Line and philadelphia’s surrounding suburbs. We’re excited to curate this lifestyle with you.

in this issue you’ll get a tour of interior designer Jen risk’s adorable Wayne home full of thrifted finds and antiques passed on from her late great-great grandmother (who

happens to be a Vanderbilt). you’ll enjoy a recipe from local food writer kristina erfe pines of Daily ampersand. Finally learn how to contour for faux cheekbones like kim k courtesy of the girls at salon Fiber. add k. nicole’s Bustle Jacket to your wish list along with fashion finds from boutiques across the area.

and oh so much more!

so grab a cup of coffee or wine and enjoy the Line!

yours in style,

she mixes floral with leopard, the old with the new and isn’t afraid of a little Diy project. Jennifer risk, the interior designer behind Belladwella interiors is taking over the main Line one

home at a time.

it’s no surprise that the designer has a fearless approach to pattern and color though as she comes from a family full of

decorators with exquisite taste. her personal love for interiors was nurtured from growing up trapped in a teeny new york city apartment. she claims she’s been known to spruce and organize family and friend’s homes, often unrequested, which

she jokes leads to awkward situations.

in 2010 Jennifer started a blog as a way to share with her family the progress of her and her husband’s first home.

Belladwella the blog is full of Diys, as Jennifer puts it, “owning a home teaches you what to hire people for and what to Diy”

as a way to cut costs because paying $600 to replace a faucet is never a good feeling. she claims the easiest Diy she’s

completed to date is an upholstered headboard. so easy with it’s four steps that even a novice can make one. Just don’t ask her about the bench featured in house Beautiful that

inspired a Diy, that one ended up in the trash the very next day.

Besides being a Diy queen Jennifer is also a superb

thriftier. her instagram is filled with pictures/pleas to buy some of the most amazing pieces of furniture, yards of fabric and

antique décor she’s scored from local thrift shops. her best find to date? a small black Dorothy Draper chest she found right in Wayne for only $40. no, that’s

not a typo. they say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure and it couldn’t be truer as she might have cried in the store when she found the piece.

the blog turned to a business after Jennifer began receiving several interior design requests from readers. now Belladwella

interiors offers customers interior decorating, full service design and e-design services.

When beginning projects with a new client the first thing

Jennifer does is walks through their home and asks the client to pick the 3 most important pieces in the home. she then

designs a space inspired around these items.

her design philosophy

is simple, buy what you love and live in a space that makes you happy.

kristina erfe pines is the blogger behind Daily ampersand. What started as an outlet to pursue something

for herself just 2 years years later led her to be published as a contributor in Bergdorf Goodman’s BG cookbook by

harper-collins launching in spring of 2015. raised in saudi arabia, kristina was exposed to flavors and spices from all over the world as her mother was a frequent entertainer yearning to bring the taste of home from, the philippines,

wherever they currently resided. While always a foodie kristina pursued a career in pharmaceuticals, and was quite successful in the industry. But no matter where her work travels took her

she always managed to indulge in the best of the local cuisine.

it wasn’t until kristina’s father fell ill and gave her his blessing to do something she loved, something to satisfy

herself, that she bought a camera, watched some youtube tutorials and turned her love for hosting and cooking into something so much more than she ever thought she could.

the blog and the brand the Daily ampersand was born.

Page 34: The Line Mag Winter 2014-2015

Page 35: The Line Mag Winter 2014-2015

35

she began blogging and vlogging about food, fashion, travel and everything in between. early on

in the journey she made a conscious decision to forgo

sponsored ads and posts, instead only focusing on things she truly loved, used and approved. she

believes this is one of the reasons for her Daily ampersand’s

success, her honesty to her readers. that and her consistency

of quality of posts.

today her blog draws readers from all over the country, even the world. she has a popular presence in italy, France and asia. her most well received posts have been the lobster

paella recipe and her various ice creams that went viral and

landed her in the BG cookbook.

For those hands on learners kristina also offers

group-cooking classes for 4-6 people in her home. During these

classes she walks students through the cooking and styling process of a meal from beginning to end. some classes discuss wine pairings and the science behind the art or informal versus formal entertaining and

various menus.

it seems this cook reached master chef level. We can’t wait to see where Daily ampersand leads

kristina to next!

cooks note: this tuscan kale salad is inspired by the kale salad at new york’s il Buco restaurant in noho. it is simple, easy to prepare, and absolutely delicious. the classic mediterranean combination of garlic, lemon, olive oil and cheese is wonderfully at play. add a bit (or a lot) more cheese for touch of decadence. so good!

3.) in a small bowl, combine mixed garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, pecorino romano cheese, dried chili flakes and pinch of salt and pepper; stir with a fork to emulsify and combine.

4.) mix cooled croutons and kale into a large bowl, dress with the garlic-lemon-olive-oil mixture. enjoy alone or eat with seareD FLat-iron steak!
