Martin Luther (1483-1546) …and a sampling of his comments about creation

God wants to be praised for nourishing and cherishing, for God cherishes all creatures. God is not only the Creator, but is also the Sustainer and Nourisher. (LW 5:197) God’s entire divine nature is wholly and entirely in all creatures, more deeply, more inwardly, more present than the creature is to itself. (LW 37:60) God is entirely and personally present in the wilderness, in the garden, in the field. (LW 37:61) God is wholly present in all creation, in every corner, behind you and before you. Do you think that God is [just] sleeping on a pillow in heaven? (LW 51:43) God is in all creatures, even in the smallest flowers! (LW 54:327) The power of God is present at all places, even in the tiniest tree leaf. (LW 37:57) God writes the Gospel, not in the Bible alone, but also on trees, and in the flowers and clouds and stars. (Attributed to Luther; exact source in his writings

God’s Presence Fills All Creation

“Earth Ball” by Olaf Skarsholt

If the earth were only a few feet in di ameter, floating a few feet above a field somewhere, people would come from every where to marvel at it. People would walk around it marveling at its big pools of water, its little pools and the water flowing between the pools. People would marvel at the bumps on it, and the holes in it, and they would marvel at the very thin layer of gas surrounding it and the water suspended in the gas. The people would marvel at all the creatures walking around the surface of the ball, and in the water. The people would declare it precious because it was the only one, And they would protect it, so that it would not be hurt. The ball would be the greatest wonder known, and people would come to behold it, to be healed, to gain knowledge, and to know beauty and to wonder how it could be. People would love it, and defend it with their lives, because they would somehow know that their lives, their own roundness, could be nothing without it. If the earth were only a few feet in diameter.

Holy and gracious Lord, we give you thanks for the wonders, the mysteries, the blessings, and the beauty of crea-tion.

Open our hearts, and at-tune our spirits, to your voice and presence as it flows through, sus-tains, and fills all the Earth.

Grant that we may come to know you more deep-ly, and hear more clearly, the ways that you call us to care for your good creation, and for one another.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fin-gers, the moon and the stars that you have estab-lished, what are human beings that you are mind-ful of them, mor-tals that you care for them? [Yet] …you have given them dominion over the works of your hands.

Psalm 8:3-4, 6a

Feed the Flock Update The Feed the Flock tutoring sessions are going very well. We consistently have a dozen third, fourth, and fifth graders come every Wednesday. As students arrive from the Circleville City Schools bus, they come in to Trin-ity and get a delicious snack prepared by Shirley and her team. The kids look forward to what is on the menu each week! We follow that with a short opening. So far the students have toured both the church and the bibli-cal garden and introduced each other to the group. An hour of tutoring follows. Most students bring an agenda book from school and have listed what they need to do that day. We support that with many reading and math activities. The hour goes fast! Lots of learning takes place. Imagine twelve little classrooms in Noeck-er Hall! We have heard many positive comments from students, parents, the school, and the tutors. This is truly a blessing and the work of the Lord. Before the kids leave each Wednesday, we have a closing activity. These have ranged from a magic show to cookie decorating. The stu-dents are now learning to play the flutaphone.

We are very grateful for your continued prayers and support of this program. Check out the bulletin board in the elevator hallway for some great pictures of students and tutors at work! A final report will be given to the congregation at the end of this year's ses-sions. Thank you!

I hope you all enjoyed a joyful and blessed Easter. We all enjoyed Easter and a few days off of school. Our Easter Celebrations were wonderful! We so en-joyed sharing songs, food, and fellowship with the families of our 4’s, 5’s and kindergarten. The kids did a great job. They also did a great job singing at Brown Memorial, sharing some Easter songs with the residents there. The children will also be singing at the 10:30 am Contemporary Worship Service on Sunday, April 22. This is an annual event and is our way of thanking the congregation for all of their love and support throughout the year. There will be art-work hanging in the Narthex and the hallways down-stairs will be bursting with spring. Be sure to check it out! We will be having our spring Open House on Thursday, April 26 from 7-8 pm. Everyone is wel-come to stop in and see what the children have been up to. Welcome Spring!!! --Nancy Harrow, Director
