PRAYERS FOR OUR RELATIVES & FRIENDS SERVING IN THE MILITARY

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Ecclesiastes 3:1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the Heavens: During the weeks of Summer, we begin our planning for the start of our Fall classes and to welcome the families of our collaborative to continue to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ through the teachings of the Catholic faith. PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGES IN OUR 2019-2020 SCHEDULE Registrations are now available online at loccc.org along with the schedule of classes for all grades. It is not too early to register! We are looking to update the Military list. If your loved one is home safe and sound please let us

know so we can update the list. Returning for their 6th performance on Sunday, come enjoy the music of the early Beatles with Studio Two - A Beatles Tribute. Then on Sunday, August 4th it’s “Kids Night at the Bandstand.” This very popular evening is made possible by our many sponsors: The Anderson Foundation: Josh and the Jamtones, Jeff Coombs Memorial Foundation: Joe’s Craz-zy Critters and Mr. Vinny the Bubbles Guy, Abington Children’s Dentistry & Orthodontics: Balloon Creations by JellyBean’s Friends, Health Express: South Shore Pottery Shop (Face Painting) and Rockland Trust: cotton candy and popcorn. Kids Night isn’t just for kids it’s for all ages! So bring a blanket, bring a chair and enjoy a fun night of music and activities with your kids or grandkids! How about dinner/dessert at reasonable prices? Let the Abington Lions Club grill up some hamburgers and hotdogs along with cold drinks and snacks and then en-joy hand scooped ice cream from the traveling cart of CREAM.

To Help the Homeless of Greater Boston Our Sisters and Brothers’ Keeper

www.osbk.org With the school year has finally come to a close, it’s finally time to clean out those backpacks, and instead of burying them away and replacing them in three months, what better way to use them than to donate them to the homeless? The thousands of homeless and displaced people in Greater Boston often depend on a backpack, carrying their whole lives inside of their zippers and pockets. Your donation could help change a person’s life. Please, if you can, donate your gently used backpacks in the donation box in the back of St. Bridget Church. Your generosity will be much appreciated!

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Good Morning to all, I am writing this the day after the Heatwave Monday. All attending Church during the heatwave were kept comfortable by our air conditioning system. We receive many questions about air conditioning, why does it seem to work to well (cold) or not well enough (still warm inside the Church). The answer has both an engineering component and a human one as well. I asked Deacon Paul Breadmore, who works in the industry of heating and air conditioning to share some wisdom about our air conditioning system. He wrote the following. Beyond human comfort, (especially during the recent excessive heat), the heat and humidity is not only dangerous to our bodies, but it also takes a toll on our buildings. When heat and humidity build up in the churches the moisture gets into the plaster on the walls and ceilings causing damage, (this can be seen in both Holy Ghost near the choir loft as well as St. Bridget in the balcony area). The units in the church help to remove humidity and by keeping the buildings at a constant temperature, the equipment doesn’t have to strain to get down to a comfortable temperature on days where high heat or high humidity can take a toll on us and our churches. This is why we have to keep the Churches from getting stifling hot or saturated with humidity even when Mass is not being celebrated. Since we have installed the air conditioning in both churches the damage has not gotten worse, (Thank God). But we try to maintain a comfort level. When Mass is celebrated or during a funeral we are adding body heat from the people in the pews. This increases the temperature in the church causing heat to naturally rise and we try to account for that ahead of time. Unfortunately, we can never estimate how many people will be at a given Mass, or if someone will leave a door opened (this frequently happens at funerals and wed-dings). It takes very little time for the heat to come into the Churches. I would ask that during this time of year if you are sensitive to the air conditioning that maybe you could bring a sweater or light jacket in case it is needed. We try to accommodate each and every person that comes to hear God Holy Word and to receive Jesus in the Sacrament of Communion but it takes some extra steps on the part of each person attending Mass.

Sisters in urgent need of a 2 bedroom apartment

Sisters Alice and Helen of Christ the King are in urgent need of a 2 bedroom apartment. If you happen to know someone who might be able to help or where one may be available, please call Sister Alice at 508-586-1575. Thank you.

The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is on Thursday, August 15th. There will be a 9AM Mass at St. Bridget and a 7PM Mass at Holy Ghost.

I hope this helps to understand that we take our parish-ioners health and comfort to be of the utmost concern and that during this time of year we are also trying to care for the long term use of our buildings and prevent any further damage to the structural integrity so that they will be here for years to come. Thank you and God Bless Deacon Paul Breadmore Thank you, Deacon Paul, for your addressing this concern of some parishioners.

CAN YOU HELP ST. VINCENT DE PAUL IN WHITMAN, PROVIDE

BACKPACKS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR FAMILIES IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE?

Saint Vincent de Paul and the Food Pantry in Whitman are seeking your help for donations of backpacks and school supplies for the children of our needy families as they get ready to go back to school at the end of August. We will be collecting backpacks and supplies beginning the week of July 27th through mid-August. If you can help us with this project, please leave school supplies at the rear of the church before Masses on the weekends, and we’ll pack the backpacks with needed supplies so that they can be distributed to families in need of assistance for their children. In addition to backpacks, we can use notebooks, folders, pencils, ballpoint pens, erasers, note cards, rulers, magic markers, pencil sharpeners, crayons, Post-It notes and other needed items. With your help, we can make back-to-school preparation easier for our families in need. Thank you for helping us to help our neighbors
