CHARACTERISTICS OF LIGHTIt travels very fast
It travels in a straight lineIt travels in all directions
![Page 3: The Light](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062513/555e2054d8b42a384f8b48ff/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
LIGHT COMES IN TWO SOURCES ARTIFICIAL LIGHT ( LIKE A TORCH)AND NATURAL LIGHT (LIKE FIRE).

Are these light sources?
moon
watermirror
These items are not light sources, instead they are reflecting light from other sources.

How do we see?
Light from a luminous object goes straight into our eyes.
Light from a luminous object reflects off a non-luminous object and into our eyes.

WHEN LIGHT IS TRAVELING ON THE AIR
AND CHANGES TO WATER IT GOES SLOWER
AND IT CHANGES DIRECTION. THAT IS CALLED
REFRACTION.
![Page 7: The Light](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062513/555e2054d8b42a384f8b48ff/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
When light finds an object, it bounces off.
This is calledREFLECTION

Light can pass through transparent objects
![Page 9: The Light](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062513/555e2054d8b42a384f8b48ff/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Transparent objects allow you to see clearly through them. Some examples are:

Translucent objects only let some light through them. You cannot see clearly through a translucent object. Some examples are:

Opaque objects do not let any light through them. You cannot see through them. Some examples of opaque objects are:

WHEN THERE IS AN OBJECTBLOCKING THE LIGHT A
SHADOW IS FORMED

What colour is light?
• The white light we see is actually a mixture of different colours. With a prism, we can separate White light into its component colours (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet).
