Parishioners are invited to attend this training on Wednesday, February 28 from 8:30 am-5:00 pm at St. David’s in downtown Austin. Breakfast, lunch, and parking are provided free of charge. Register here. St. Matthew’s has a particular need for this training as we expand our outreach ministry for neighbors who are homeless and live near St. Matthew’s, often under bridges. If we have enough interest, we’ll schedule an additional training. Submitted by April Kerwin

Talk to your clergy about training, resources, and support for what you've always wanted to try. There is no better time or place to take a risk. Your St Matt's family loves you, and who knows, you might be precisely the person God needs to share the gospel with bowlers, ukulele players, ferret lovers, or _________ (fill in the blank with what your passion). Caritas: The Top Three and More This week we would be grateful for the following non-perishable food items for the Caritas Food Pantry. They are listed in order of greatest need, as the first three items disappear from the shelves almost as soon as they are stocked and donations of them are relatively sparse: Hamburger/Tina Helper, canned hams, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, canned mixed vegetables & peas, cold cereals, and canned fruit. There is also a need for shaving cream and shampoo. You’re welcome to bring other items too. This week’s item for our St. Matt’s Children for Caritas Children program is honey nut cheerios. If you’d rather, you are welcome to leave a $1 or more in the money box in the Caritas Corner of the Commons, the proceeds from which are used to buy meats and other perishable food items. See you on Sunday and thank you. Submitted by Jane Baxter Lynn

Outreach News St Matthews’ Outreach Commission works with over twenty charitable organizations (Missions) to bring spiritual, physical, and mental well-being to those suffering from hunger, poverty, homelessness and isolation. In 2017 St Matt’s volunteers contributed over 8700 hours to these organizations. To improve the awareness of the good work our church does in the community, the Weekly Word will begin featuring one mission each week. The series will begin with our newest mission: Help Our Neighbors (HON).

Help Our Neighbors was begun in 2015 by a friend of St. Matthew’s, Johanne Ibsen Wolford, to aid the homeless in North-west Austin by providing the basic living necessities: food, clothing, basic hygiene, and spiritual support. HON also works with ECHO and Social Security to find safe housing for the homeless. In November 2017 a shower event was held at a neighborhood fitness club, Body Business, where the homeless were provided new clothes, haircuts, shaves and manicures. The next shower event is planned for March 24, 2018. In December, volunteers assembled and delivered Christmas stock-ings with food, Metro bus cards and HEB gift cards to the homeless. To find out how you can help please contact Dineen Majcher [email protected]. Submitted by Frank Lynn, Outreach Commission Chair

Christian, please email the group info to [email protected] for entry into the WW and website. Formation of groups is a rolling process throughout the year, so keep your ideas coming!
