The BookThe Laurels of Thimbleberry tells the tale of a unique

family. Small enough to fit into a hedgerow made up of

tangled blackberry bushes and bracken, they live their

lives amongst the animals and insects of the forest floor.

We watch the lives of these woodland folk through the

eyes of two gregarious children, Milo and Bess. As our

characters charge around the forest on the back of their

pet cricket, we follow their adventures throughout the

seasons.

Alongside digital and watercolour illustrations, this

family hopes to entertain, educate and add a touch of

magic to a child’s reading.

Milo & BessMilo & Bess are true children

of the forest. Riding on their

pet cricket, they charge

around the woodland looking

for adventure.

Ma & PaMa and Pa are devoted

artisans. Ma can turn any

foraged ingredients into a

hearty meal or a tincture, to

sooth a brush with a stinging

nettle. Pa can turn his hand

to any construction project

and has spent years building a

beautiful home in this tangled

hedgerow.

Grandma & GrandpaHaving spent a lifetime as a

Prima Donna and the lead

conductor of the woodland

orchestra, Grandma & Grandpa

still practice every day. Their

musical band of worms, mice

and beetles has music soaring

across the forest for all to hear.

The GuruNestled amongst the

sprouting mushrooms, this

little prophet is wise beyond

her years and has a special

connection with the forest.

By closing her eyes and

meditating, she can peek into

the past and future, and peer

into the darkest depths of the

woodland.

Sid the SwallowHaving fallen to the forest

floor after a heavy storm, this

little bird has been separated

from his family. Luckily for

Sid, Milo and Bess are there

to help him find his way

home.

SpudSpud is a quiet chap. Talking

is not really his strong point,

but his ability to invent all

kinds of clever contraptions

certainly makes up for his

silence.
