• No retest opportunities for grades 5 & 8

• Promotion/retention decisions based on the same academic information used to make these decisions in non-SSI grades

• Course encompasses all TEKS = Student takes above grade level STAAR in that content area

• Students in grades 5 and 8 may not be denied promotion based on unsatisfactory performance on STAAR assessments above their enrolled grade level.

• Composed of STAAR test forms in English that have built-in computer-based linguistic accommodations designed for ELLs who are eligible for a significant degree of linguistic accommodation

• 2 accommodations - clarification of unfamiliar English and reading aloud of text

• All ELLs are required to participate; no exemptions • Spanish-version assessment does not exist or is not the most

appropriate measure of the student’s academic progress

• Student has not yet attained an advanced high rating on TELPAS reading

• Student has been enrolled in U.S. schools for 3 school years or less

• No modified option – students take STAAR Modified in English with accommodations

• In 2013, online testing program

• ELLs in grades 2–12 who enter U.S. schools in the 2nd semester of the school year and do not speak English will no longer be eligible to automatically be assigned a rating of beginning without taking the reading test. The students will take the test and receive scores based on their test performance
