The last thing a musician needs to hear... The old “exposure” line! Yeah... if the Beatles came to Guadalajara and my band was asked to open for them for “exposure” I would no doubt do it. But when rinky dink clubs in small towns think it’s “great exposure” for any band... it isn’t! One of the things I’ve been working at since coming down here is putting an end to bands and other entertainers playing for “tacos and a beer” and I must say it I hope it has improved for many over the past 7+ years I’ve been doing this little newsletter. Also it’s not uncommon to see a tip jar when a group is playing in a club as for a regular gig the bands play for less of a fee than they would get a bigger or special event. I don’t think people stop to think about the time, money and energy a performer goes through to get up and entertain folks... but they should. I know how the Peso works and maybe 100 or 200 Peso tip sounds like a lot of money but really it’s only $5 or $10 USD and if you had a good time and enjoyed the entertainment... not a lot, and it sure is great for the musicians.

The show is a very unique multimedia show with a large screen and movie clips playing behind the singers. The show is called CineMusic and has lots of great movie music, from such movies as Gladiator, Godfather, Ghost, Dirty Dancing, Pearl Harbor, Disney and Armageddon. Everyone from Fred Astaire in 1935 to Lady Gaga in 2018. It is light-hearted with just a bit of narration and very moving as well. And there will be a surprise appearance by Marilyn Monroe.
