.308 Winchester PALMA Case Ever since its debut in 1952, the .308 Winchester cartridge has set world-beating standards for big bore accuracy. It has been used to set, and subsequently break records in the long range, Olympic, 300 meter, and benchrest venues ever since. It is generally regarded as one of the most inherently accurate .30 caliber cartridges ever developed, and for good reason. While it has finally been eclipsed in certain disciplines by newer and more specialized cartridges such as the 6mm PPC, 6mm BR and 6.5-284, the .308 Winchester is still the cartridge of choice for some of the most prestigious long range accuracy competitions in the world. One of these is the venerable Palma Trophy. This match is fired from the prone position at distances of 800, 900 and 1,000 yards, an exacting discipline which demands the ultimate in performance from shooter, rifle, cartridge and bullet. Only the best of each, working in perfect harmony with the others, will allow a shooter to fire the elusive 450 possible across this demanding course. We at Lapua saw this as both a challenge, and an opportunity. With record setting accuracy and unmatched quality control standards already being hallmarks of Lapua’s products, we set out to refine what already seemed to be the ultimate match cartridge; the .308 Winchester. Aside from tightening up physical dimensions and tolerances, we took this a step further, and made some changes to the cartridge itself. Lapua is proud to introduce the new .308 Win. PALMA (Small Rifle Primer) case. Developed in conjunction with the US Palma team, the small rifle primer case is designed to deliver enhanced long-range accuracy for the most demanding competitive applications. Utilizing the well known consistency of the Small Rifle primers to best advantage, this combination has shown significantly reduced velocity spreads and standard deviations compared to .308 Win. cases using the standard large rifle primer. Translating into reduced vertical dispersion, this makes the new Lapua .308 Palma case the choice for long range competition. While testing in the hands of some of the USA’s best long range shooters, all found that use of the small primer reduced the problems of lot to lot variations commonly seen in large rifle primer. Previously, this could only be overcome by very careful testing and selection of specific lots of primers. The case itself is drawn to Lapua’s exacting standards, and made with the highest quality materials to provide the accuracy, durability and reloadability that shooters expect. The Lapua .308 Win. Case construction
BaseThe base section is hard and strong, and the dimensions remain constant and will hold primers tight in primer pocket even after repeated reloading.
BodyThe brass body section is hard and firm. It is easy to extract after firing, whether full sizing or only neck sizing was used in reloading.
NeckStrict tolerances in concentrity and wall thickness are used in manufacturing. The neck and shoulder are annealed to withstand repeated reloading.

As an added bonus value, the .308 Win. Palma cases come in the new Lapua plastic boxes which can be reconfigured to use as a durable cartridge box for loaded ammunition. This is accomplished via a reversible insert found within the box, which when locked in place allows the shooter to store 50 rounds of loaded ammunition securely and conveniently for the next shooting session. Cutting Edge
To achieve their ultimate in accuracy potential, Lapua’s .308 Winchester Palma cases utilize the same small diameter flash hole found in our .220 Russian and 6mm BR match cases. For proper depriming, the decapping pins in many makes of reloading dies should be replaced with the smaller diameter pins intended for the .220 Russian/PPC or Lapua 6mm BR cases. Failure to do so may result in sticking the decapping pins or damaging the flash holes.
