Phil Ruggles, Joint First Team & Player Manager

Firstly I would like to welcome the players, management staff, committee and supporters of Feltham FC to Redding Way for this afternoons encounter. The last couple of weeks since our last home game has seen a few changes to our ranks. I’m pleased to welcome to the club Sam Dennsion, Dwaine Hamilton-Taylor and Anthony Grey who so far have made a positive impact.

Adding to that this week have been the signings of Paul Johnson and Alex Baker. I’m sure these guys can come in and add something different to the squad and some new energy. Both are experienced and we are looking forward to watching them perform in a Knappers shirt. Dwaine will not feature today as he was in hospital last week which ruled him out of last weeks defeat to Farleigh Rovers, we wish him a speedy recovery. We played Farleigh in the cup last week and started very lethargic, we passed the ball just with no real conviction. Dean Pitcher was a calming influence in the middle and showed his range of passing. We went one nil up just before half time thanks to a well taken first goal for the club courtesy of Kirk Smith who in recent weeks has performed well. However, as the game progressed Farleigh got back into the game and our confidence disappeared. They took advantage and deserved the win, good luck to them in the next round. Unfortunately Jurgs our number one was unavailable (and will be fined) for last week’s game and it left us short in the goalkeeping area, this was no excuse as we went on to lose the game 4-1. He is back between the sticks today looking for his first clean sheet for the club. A welcome return! Myself and Kevin can accept defeat when the team works hard but we just don’t get the result. Last week we both felt that the players let us and themselves down knowing that the performance in general from start to finish was not good enough. This week at training we have worked the lads hard and are letting them know this is not acceptable for this club. They have taken this on board and are keen to put last week behind them. Today will be a tough encounter as Feltham are above us currently in the league table however, we are here today looking to build on what we have done so far and with the new additions coming in things are starting to look positive so is today is the day to restart our season?.......

Saturday 27th October Kick Off 3.00pm Redding Way Combined Counties League Division One

Just three weeks separated the two meetings between these two clubs, Knaphill falling to a 4-2 away defeat earlier in the month, after they had squandered a two goal lead. But at Redding Way on Saturday it was not quite the same story, as there was only one goal in the whole game, that came after Paul Baker’s effort for the visitors was diverted into goal by the unlucky Dan Cox. However, although it meant another defeat, Knaphill should have reaped at least a point from this Division One encounter. The game could have had a different complex to it had Knaphill been able to thrust an early opening. From the start, they pressed forward and forced four corners within the first five minutes, and from the fourth one, a bit more luck could have put them one up. A goalmouth scramble with the ball pinging off legs in the six yard box, but with no way through for it to be tapped over the line. Knaphill’s determination in those early stages had their opponents floundering for a while, before the visitors eased their way into the game to create chances of their own. Despite creating some chances, the home side were unable to capatilise on them, and in the latter stages their defence had to do a bit of stout defending. But a minute before halftime, Staines Lammas took the lead when Baker fired in a shot which was diverted past the Knaphill keeper for an own goal. Untimely, but a cruel blow. Although Knaphill were able to create a few opportunities in the second half, they weren’t enough and needed a bit of extra spark up front. A rare danger to Staines Lammas was a header from Matt Edwards when his effort glanced off the far post in the 69th minute. There were times during the half that for both sides, play became a bit scrappy, but Knaphill keeperNick McGregor was to deny the visitors with some fine saves from Matt Baxter and Shane Rideout . In the end though, it was maximum points for the visitors. Knaphill revert back to Cup football next weekend with a visit to Farleigh Rovers in the Surrey Premier Cup, then they return to League business the following week in the search for some vital and valuable points. Team: McGregor, Smith, Green, Edwards, Doble, Pitcher(Hamilton-Taylor 75mins), Cox(Chimbima 81mins), Hennessey, Pym(Ruggles 68mins), Postance, Felgate. Booked: Smith

GU21 News around the ground

Theknappers

Good afternoon everyone, and welcome to Redding Way to our opponents Feltham, their players, officials and supporters, also today’s three match officials. Today’s formcast for the teams, sees Feltham in 12th position with 10 points from eleven games, whilst Knaphill have played 13, gained two wins and a draw, with a meagre total of seven points in 17th place. Once again we’ll be looking for Knaphill to pick up some points after three months of a season that so far as brought just two league wins, Warlingham away, and Worcester Park at home. We won’t go down the route of goals for and goals against statistics! Disappointing yes, but we must be seriously looking at getting clear of the bottom three in Division One after the 13 games played to date. Our one other home win this season came in the Challenge Cup win over local rivals Westfield at the beginning of October. So, in the league there are twenty one games remaining to try and resurrect our season and start climbing the table. Last Saturday came a break from the league programme, but not a break against one of our Division One opponents Farleigh Rovers, who hammered us out of the Surrey Premier Cup 4-1. The Cup tie brought a dull first half. Knaphill though, took the lead through Kirk Smith, his first goal for the club. Farleigh should have levelled on a few occasions, but poor finishing let them down. Despite chances that Knaphill had to extend their lead, they also had two clear cut penalties denied. The second half saw Knappers have no answer to Farleigh’s comeback with four goals, that saw the host’s progress to the next round.

disastrous weekend double for Knaphill when

the Reserves suffered a 9-0 defeat by Farnham

Town Reserves. Today the Reserves are away at

Reserves Challenge Cup.

On a brighter note pictured below is Jamie

Theknappers Theknappers

Although Knaphill’s last home game saw another defeat, it was the narrowest one of the season, losing 1-0 to Staines Lammas two weeks ago. The goal coming from an unfortunate deflection into his own goal by Dan Cox. The result gave our opponents a league double over Knaphill having won 4-2 three weeks ago, a game Knappers threw away, conceding four second half goals after taking a two goal lead. One game recently that produced some good football, came from Knaphill Youth U18s in their Grant McLellan Youth Cup match against Windsor Youth U18s played at Molesey FC. Having reached the final of this competition for the past two seasons, Knaphill were unlucky to make their exit at the first hurdle this season after giving a good account of themselves in two hours of football. At 90mins it was 3-3, the same score after extra time, but it was Windsor who went through 6-5 on penalties. Full match report on the Youth page in this programme. Knaphill Ladies drew 1-1 at home to Luton Town Res. two weeks ago, and their next game is at home to Carshalton on Sunday. Next home match will be next Saturday 17th November when Cobham are the visitors to Redding Way. They too are struggling near the foot of the table, having lost 2-1 at Feltham last weekend. Should be an interesting encounter next week. Please note there will be a minute's silence held prior to kick off to mark the forthcoming annual Remembrance Sunday commemorations. Enjoy today’s game……….

Introducing

feltham fc

Theknappers

Feltham Football Club was founded in 1946 as Tudor Park FC and competed under that name until the end of season 1962/63 when the name Feltham was adopted upon being granted Senior Status by the Middlesex County Football Association. Tudor Park played at Rectory Meadow in Hanworth, and also at the Remo Depot in Feltham, whilst Feltham FC played on the Glebelands playing fields before moving into its former home of Feltham Sports Arena in 1963. The Arena’s grandstand was opened in 1966 by former club President and Mayor of Hounslow, Edward Pauling JP. In 1990, Feltham merged with local Southern League side Hounslow and the side competed under the name of Feltham and Hounslow Borough until the end of the 1994/95 season when it was decided to change the name back to Feltham FC. For their first three seasons, Tudor Park were members of the West Middlesex Sunday Football League but in 1949/50 became affiliated to the Middlesex County Football Association and played Saturday football under the County’s jurisdiction as members of the Staines and District League and in turn were elected to the Parthenon League. Feltham had their first taste of senior soccer from 1963/64 in the Surrey Senior League in which they had a successful five-season spell. 1968/69 saw the club replace Petters Sports in the Spartan League. At the end of the 1972/73 Season they were promoted to the Second Division of the Athenian League after finishing third. In 1977, Feltham, along with fifteen other member clubs of the Athenian League resigned to join the newly-formed Second Division of the Isthmian League. It was from here that the club was promoted to the First Division in 1980/81 after securing maximum points in the very last game of the season at Barton Rovers, thereby winning the Second Division title. The 1982/83 season saw Feltham being the first team outside of the Football League to play their league fixtures on an Artificial Pitch. In 1983/84, Feltham dropped back into Division Two South of the Isthmian League and in turn, they transferred to Division 3 in 1992 after the league was again restructured. The club stayed in this division until 1995, when due to new league rulings about ground grading, they were forced to resign. Feltham joined the Combined Counties Football League for the commencement of season 1995/96. The following year saw Feltham defeat Godalming & Guildford 5-1 in the League Cup Final. Season 2002/03 saw Feltham lift the Middlesex Senior Charity Cup after beating Northwood 2-0 in the Final. The Blues completed a cup double that season by defeating Hendon in the Final of the Middlesex Super Cup (The George Ruffell Memorial Trophy). At the end of Season 2005/06 despite other clubs resigning, Feltham were relegated into Division One of the Combined Counties League. Their first season saw them finish in 9th place. Recent seasons have seen the club finish in mid to low positions and 2009/10 saw the side unsettled by management changes which resulted in the club finishing 20th – just avoiding relegation.

Fortunes were of a similar keel in 2010/11, which resulted in the club finishing in sixteenth place. Season 2011/12 saw manager Wayne Tisson back at the helm. The Division 1 structure now included Guernsey FC which saw Feltham play their first away ‘international’ in a number of years. Despite a very promising start which saw the Blues attain 15 out of a possible 21 points, their form slipped and the club found itself in a mid-table position, finally finishing in 13th place. Feltham’s Reserve team lift the club’s first piece of silverware in 7 years – the Jeff Nardin Reserve Division Cup in 2009/10. Feltham were eventually forced to move out of their Feltham Sports Arena ground due to constant vandalism and have ground shared with local clubs Egham Town, Hampton & Richmond Borough and Bedfont. It was announced in May 2012 that Feltham would be joining forces with landlords Bedfont Football & Social Club to form a new club, Bedfont and Feltham FC. As Feltham's 1st XI have already entered the FA Vase for season 2012/13 the club has to wait until 2013/14 to fully adopt the new name.

Knaphill’s impressive U18’s side continued their excellent form in the Southern Youth League with a six game unbeaten league and cup run from mid-September to the end of October, only stopped by a last gasp 3-2 defeat by Shalford. The year started with only three players returning from last year’s campaign with goalkeeper Craig Taylor, left-back Josh Dawber and this season’s captain, Jonny Coats. This meant a very different squad starting their first game in the Southern Youth League in late August at Godalming Town and how pleasing was it to see a fine 2-1 victory for the Knappers with young striker Mekhail McLaughlin getting both goals. This proved to be a false dawn however as trips to Farnham Town and Guildford City both ended in heavy defeats 2-4 & 1-4 respectively; the Knaphill goals from Stevie Kemp, Hamid Senousaoui & Jamal Rodney. The only consistency was that Jonny Coats came away with two ‘Man 0f the Match’ awards (given by the opposition) and three bookings. The youngsters needed to take a long look at themselves and look to repair the damage done to both their position in the table and the teams over-all morale before their next game. That next match saw a long trip down to Cranleigh and a morale boosting 1-1 draw in a very tight game, played at 100mph and in a great spirit. Matt Willard made his debut in goal and helped keep the Knappers in the game whilst Jonny picked up his third MoM in 4 games. The fifth consecutive away game, due to issues with the use of the floodlights at Redding Way, saw a visit to Sandhurst Town and the fastest goals of the season so far as Jamal Rodney nipped in to score after just 21 seconds. A second goal from Jamal and a powerful Jakub Kurdziel header from the big defender saw a comfortable 3-0 lead at half-time. However Sandhurst came storming back in the second half and with ten minutes left had the score at 3-2, again a big defensive effort held the home side at bay and the Knappers recorded their second league win of the season. The latest game was a strong away performance against all the odds at Fleet Spurs where one player failed to arrive, a second Jack Lewis was injured in the warm-up, and with Robert Litchfield stepping into the breach for his first start of the campaign and with only two fit players on the bench it was all hands to the pump. Fleet scored first and it looked as if it could have been a long night. However goals from Conor Davison (2) on his seasonal debut, Charlie Felicien with his first touch after coming on as a sub and a tap-in from Jamal resulting in a 4-2 victory and a return to the top of the table. Special mention should go to the rest of the squad: Ahmed Abdali who has made the centre back position (in a strong back three) his own; Louis Herbert with great expertise in the midfield holding role, Scott James who has only made two starts so far, but shows promise; Ben Landi who along with Craig and Jonny has made appearances for the senior Knaphill teams. youngsters Nathan Leonard and Harry Rosier who will get further chances to shine; the non-stop motor-mouth that is Kabir Odekunle; Mr ‘Shoot-on-sight’ Turkay Suleyman, Kallum Parker-Andrew who has had little time to shine so far this season and Hamid Senousaoui whose goal against Farnham was one of the few bright spots in a disappointing game.

The Grant-McLellan Cup 1st round tie against Windsor which was played at Molesey FC’s Walton Road ground last Monday night, ended in a heart rendering 6-5 defeat on penalties after a hard fought 3-3 draw. With Knaphill 3-1 down after 23 minutes it didn’t look good, but a superb team effort turned the tie around with a last gasp (90+2 mins) free-kick from Turkay Suleyman. Then on the 14th it is back to Molesey for a County Cup tie, last year’s cup victory against Molesey was only achieved by a dramatic 5-4 penalty win after 120 minutes of goalless action.
