Another Set of TwinsBy Evan Jensen

The Briggs family from Northern Texas have ANOTHER set of twins… making it the third set! The names of the third set of twins are Micah and Ezra. The family now has 10 members in it. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, around 33.9 twins are born for every 1,000 babies that are born in the United States. And now the Briggs have three sets of them including two other children. Adding on to this incredible story, over the summer 13 sets of twins were born at a hospital in Minnesota. Usually, this hospital only gets about five sets of twins per month. Could these two stories only be the beginning of the US being controlled by twins, or just a big coincidence?

New RestaurantsBy Rylie Swinford

You probably know about the new restaurants that are opening soon. After nearly 19 years, Lone Star Steakhouse and Saloon closed. If didn’t take long for its old spot to be filled. In the same week as the closing of Lone Star, a developed in California said that they had signed on three restaurants and one mattress store. United Growth is working on adding two more buildings to that lot near Target. United Growth brought the 2 acre lot for $2.2 million in August. The three restaurants are Firehouse Subs, Five Guys, and Chipotle, and the mattress store is Mattress Firm. Firehouse Subs is now open and Five Guys and Chipotle just opened recently too. I know I am excited for these new restaurants and I am sure you are too!

Stay Out of the Dog House

By Nathaniel Evans Trudeau Prisoners in the regional penitentiary of Pelotas, a country in Brazil, are building dog houses for strays. Every three days spent working on the dog houses is one day of their sentence, and there is already over 50 dog houses made in the past 3 months. Some citizens are even donating and asking prisoners to build dog houses for their yards. The prisoners are also re-joining society by building them for people. It can also help the prisoners keep their mind off crime and gives them something to do during their sentence.

The Killing of HarambeBy Jaiden Collins

On May 28, 2016, a three-year-old boy climbed into a gorilla enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden in Ohio and was grabbed and dragged by Harambe, a 17-year-old Western lowland gorilla. Fearing for the boy's life, a zoo worker shot and killed Harambe. The incident was recorded on video and received broad international coverage and commentary, including controversy over the choice to kill Harambe. A number of primatologists and conservationists wrote later that the zoo had no other choice under the circumstances, and that it highlighted the danger of zoo animals in close proximity to humans and the need for better standards of care.

Explosive Phones

By Aiden Ellexson

Beware! The new Galaxy Note 7 phones from Samsung have explosive batteries. There have been some people that have had accounts of severe burns while holding this phone, some even saying they blew up. The product makers have been assessing the issue and looking at the type of batteries they used. They have made an official recall and even TSA (which is the airplane services) have banned the phones from planes.

The All New IPhone 7By Caleb Whalen

The company known as Apple is creating another iPhone. Here are some facts about this all new phone. The iPhone 7 will have some advanced new camera systems. It also is said to have the best performance and battery life than any other iPhone. The last bit of information I will share is that the new iPhone will be splash and water resistant.

SyriaBy Rylie Swinford

Most of you probably know about everything that has been going on in the area of Syria, all of the terrorists and all of that scary stuff. Many people are trapped there and can’t get out. Some people may have the opportunity to escape, but obstacles get in their way. Two of the biggest obstacles are younger children that can’t keep up and people who have disabilities, such as being in wheelchairs because there are many mountains and valleys. This is why it was almost a miracle that a man named Alan Mohammad and his sister, Gyan, ended up escaping Syria. Both siblings have muscular dystrophy, a hereditary disease that weakens muscles and degrades the muscles. This disease has put both siblings in wheelchairs. Alan is quoted saying, “Until now I cannot believe it….I was very afraid.” Alan’s friends are very surprised that the two siblings made it. The two siblings didn’t even think they would make it. Their journey began on a brutal trail from their home in Al-Hasakah. They were strapped to horses, wheelchair and all. They went from northeastern Syria to Iraq, then to Turkey, and on to Europe. The siblings were then smuggles on a boat that was going to Greece. They are now at a refugee camp in Greece along with many others families, adults, and children all in an unfamiliar place that they have to call their home. Even though the siblings are now in a relatively safe place, their long journey isn’t over yet. They still want to go to Germany to be reunited with their father and sister who they say arrived there about ten months ago. For now, Alan, Gyan, their mom, and their two other siblings have been stuck at the refugee camp. So are over 500 other fleeing refugees.

Bradley Central Softball TeamBy Kylie Jensen

Our coaches are Coach Bertan and Coach Duval. Our players are:Kneiley 6th grade- short or pitcherCharlie 6th grade- left fieldKylee 6th grade- 3rd base, right field, and sometimes 1st baseChloe 7th grade- 2nd baseKendall 6th grade- center fieldLydia 7th grade- 3rd baseLauren 6th grade- left fieldSydney 6th grade- 3rd base, catcher, and first baseRiley 6th grade- pitcher, center, and first base sometimesLiberty 6th grade- catch, pitch, and first baseKylie 6th grade- catch, pitch, and 3rd base We’ve lost all of our games except 1 game, and the score was 6 to 11 and we were losing the game. Then in one inning we came back 6 runs and won by 1. We were all so excited! Liberty only got to play two or three games because she had to have surgery! But she cheered on our team and stayed in the dugout to help! Everyone was so good on our team, but we were struggling a lot but that’s okay because we all had so much fun and had a great year playing softball! Maybe next year we can improve.

By Ryan Koerner

The Chicago Cubs are off to one of their best seasons yet. Their record is 103-58 and they just made the BIG 100! Kris Bryant is leading the pack in home runs with 39. Anthony Rizzo has 32 home runs. The Cubs won last week one night because Mrs. Allen was there and gave them good luck. The Cubs are Division Champs and hopefully there is more to come… like the World Series!

Sports Fun Fact of the DayBy Matt Magruder

Girls VolleyballBy Alexis Johnson

Listen girls. Volleyball is open to any 6th, 7th, and 8th grader girl. Volleyball season begins the first week of December and runs through February. Practices are held after school Mondays through Fridays and occasionally on Saturdays. Games start in January and there are typically two per week. Sixth and Seventh grade (JV) has one Saturday tournament. Eighth grade (Varsity) has two Saturday Tournaments. Now, let’s back up a little bit. You are probably wondering what do I need to have down for volleyball. What you are about to read does not guarantee you to make the team but it can help. First, you always have to be confident and you can’t give up on yourself. Secondly, you have to try to have your spikes, bumps, and passes down. Most importantly, you can’t goof around. You have to take this seriously. What if you don’t know what any of those moves are? There will be open gyms on Sundays. JV will be 5 - 6 and Varsity will be 6-7. You don’t have to come every week but come when you can. Listen to announcements for starting dates. If you know Mrs. Maricle, one of the coaches, you can ask her for more details. If you are interested in volleyball come to the open gyms and try outs. Have fun and try to learn as many new skills as you can.

Tom Brady’s SuspensionBy Josh Clifton

So originally they knew Brady was going to be suspended, they just didn’t know how long he was going to be suspended. But this all started in Feb. 2015 when Tom Brady deflated the footballs in the Super Bowl. So when he was suspended for four games they were shocked, they thought it was going to be a suspension of two games, but he was suspended for four whole games! Now remember, there are only 16 games in a season (minus the playoffs of course) so he lost 1/4 of the season! But Tom Brady sealed this fate when he destroyed his phone the day before he went to court. Brady can’t go to the team’s stadium, watch, or attend practices, watch games as a spectator, go to press meetings, talk, text, or call any team members or staff. He can’t look over plays with teammates or play catch with teammates. So he is technically cut off from the Patriots. But he can meet with his own personal trainer, play catch with the players from a college team, and hang out with players the Patriots cut. But since the Patriots don’t have Brady they have a backup quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo. But the worst part is he was just injured by the Miami Dolphins. So now they are going to have to play their third sting quarterback. As of right now, the Patiots are very lucky to be 2-0 because they don’t even have a quarterback and they are number one in their division. I don’t even know how they got the lucky. But Brady will be back to face the Cleveland Browns. From what I’ve observed, Brady has been sitting on his couch waiting until he can play again.

This is for the times when your plate is full, and not with Chicken Alfredo. No ma’am today we are talking about a very popular topic among youth: stress! “It was the best of times; it was the worst of times”, yeah I think Charles Dickens described middle school perfectly. Life is difficult in general but middle school has some annoying and frankly gross obstacles. Let’s be honest; finding significant others, new smells, and losing friends is pretty stressful. Then you add common nuisances such as homework and studying. Bam! In a nutshell you have described Middle School. It gets worse when as soon as you experience these things it is deemed as negative. You are given all these new responsibilities or problems and someone, somewhere gets to laugh at you for it.

A good way to deal with the stresses of being new to the Teen World is confidence. It’s very difficult to build up your confidence when it’s constantly being knocked down by your peers but it is worth a shot. When you gain confidence you stop worrying about giving a presentation or participating in after school activities. It even helps with small things like asking someone for help or kicking the ball during soccer. Honestly, middle school children are savages. Did you get a new haircut or maybe some shoes? Yeah any second the tall kid in your third hour is waiting to crack a joke. Just remember two things, 1. Those shoes are already bought and worn and 2. You like them. So grab your plate and fill it up. You’ll need your energy.

Overwatch By Gage Pierandozi

Have you ever been at home bored and have nothing to do? Well I have the solution to your problem! Get Overwatch, Overwatch is a competitive first person shooter. There are a variety of characters to pick from. There are offense heroes, defense heroes, tank heroes, and support heroes. There are different objectives like control point, King of the hill, and payload. King of the Hill is where there is one point in the map and you are basically fighting over it. And whoever reaches one hundred first wins. Control point is where you are either on offense or defense. If you are on defense you are defending the point. If you are on attack you must take the point. So if the attackers take the point you can’t get it back but don’t give up yet because the have to take a hole other point. Payload is sort of like king of the hill at the beginning of the game. But when the attackers take the point they must escort the payload. The payload is pretty much just a car you must bring from point A to point B. Well those are the basics of the game I hope I helped you out!

Game Reviews

Fallout 4

By Ian Friend

Fallout 4 is a game that takes place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland after nukes fall. It takes place hundreds of years in the future. Your character had time in the military so he was allowed into the vault along with his family. The vaults are made by a company called Vault-Tec. People went into the vault to take shelter from the bombs. Most of the vaults were made for conducting experiments on humans. The vault your character goes in is called vault 111. Vault 111 is a cryo-vault. It would keep subjects frozen so scientists could experiment on those subjects. A series of events happen and you’re let out of the vault with a Pip-boy and wanting to find your baby son, Shaun. You can build settlements to house settlers, craft weapons to fight your enemies, and discover many locations around the map. You find out that you need to do all you can to survive. There is a rumored society called the Institute that takes people and replaces them with robots that are almost impossible to tell apart from normal humans. Humans have been turned into feral ghouls with no brain or they could have turned into bloodthirsty brutes called super mutants. You can level up and get new perks like taking no radiation damage from water. You eventually find Shaun and are shocked by where he is now. That is the story of Fallout 4.
