Jesus as Messiah, King and Branch in the Kingdom – Isa. 11:1-9

1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. 2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD, and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes or decide by what he hears;4 but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he slays the wicked. 5 Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.

6 The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. 7 The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.8 The infant will play near the cobra’s den, the young child will put its hand in the viper’s nest.9 They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

I. Why Proclaim the Millennial Kingdom

A. Jesus taught we should pray “Your Kingdom come” – Lk. 11:1-4

Isaiah – Prophet of the Millennial Kingdom

All the various aspects about the Lord’s millennial reign are spelled out in detail in the book of Isaiah. The book of Revelation is mostly about the Tribulation Period. It is the book of Isaiah that gives us the majority of information about the Millennial Kingdom.

1. Evangelism is the glorious and necessary first step in preaching the Kingdom of God, but it is not Jesus’ complete message – Acts 3:19-21 (Peter’s sermon)

19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing (Millennium) may come from the Lord, 20 and that he may send the Messiah, who has been appointed for you—even Jesus. 21 Heaven must receive him until the restoration of all things (Millennium), as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.

2. The Apostle Paul said he wasn’t content to preach a partial message

He said, “I kept back nothing...but proclaimed to you...repentance and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” 25...preaching the kingdom of God...27 for I have not shunned to declare the whole counsel of God. (Acts 20:20–27)

C. To fulfill God’s Covenant Promises to Israel

The covenant promises God made with Abraham, Moses, David (A descendent will sit on his throne forever) and Israel will be fulfilled in the Millennial Kingdom. Without the kingdom age, God’s promises would remain unfulfilled

D. To Reward the People of God – Rev. 5:10; 20:6

God promised the church they would be heirs of Christ’s Kingdom and given authority to rule and reign with Jesus on His throne – Rev. 1:6; 2:26-27; 3:21; 5:10

E. To provide a final test for man – A test to demonstrate man’s sinful nature and the importance of Salvation

The Millennial Kingdom will demonstrate for all time that even with Satan bound and Christ governing the earth, unregenerate man’s sinful nature will always leave him susceptible to deception, unthankfulness and rebellion.



IV. Displaying the Beauty and Glory of Jesus (Isa. 4:2; 28:5; 33:17; Ps. 45; 48; 145)

A. The Millennium reveals the full beauty and majesty of Jesus - 2 Thess. 1:10

When He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be marveled at among all those who believe

B. In the Millennial Kingdom, we see Jesus’ beauty in full earthly manifestation:

In the Kingdom, we see His beauty as the uncreated God (Col. 1:16–18) surrounded by the works of His own creation (Ps. 19:1–6) magnified by His act of redemption (Phil. 2:5–11) now sitting on His earthly throne, ruling the Davidic Dynasty & leading the world through the last phase of human history

C. Christ’s attributes converge together in the long-running millennial display of His beauty for the entire world to see - Rev. 15:3–4

Great and marvelous are your deeds, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are your ways, King of the nations. 4 Who will not fear you, Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.

In that day the LORD of hosts (Jesus) will be for a crown of glory and a diadem of beauty to the remnant of His people... (Isa. 28:5) Your eyes will see the King (Jesus) in His beauty... (Isa. 33:17) You (Jesus) are fairer (more beautiful) than the sons of men, O Mighty One, with Your glory and Your majesty. (Ps. 45:2-4)

The kings assembled, they passed by together. 5 They saw it (Glory of Jerusalem and the King), and marveled; they were terrified & hastened away. (Ps. 48:4–6) Arise, shine; for your light has come! and the glory (beauty) of the LORD is risen upon you. 2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth...but the LORD will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. 3 The Gentiles will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. 4 ...they all gather together, they come to you...5 and you will become radiant (Isa. 60:1–4)



V. The Binding and Imprisoning of Satan – Rev. 20:1-3

And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. 2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. 3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.

A mighty Angel (Michael?) does 5 things:

A. Laid hold of Satan - Rev. 20:2

B. Bound him with a Great Chain - Rev. 20:2

C. Cast him into the Pit (Rev. 20:3)

D. Shut him up (Rev. 20:3)

E. Set a Seal on him - Rev. 20:3 ! 6

F. Overcoming Satan in This Age - 2 Thess. 3:3

The Lord is faithful and will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.

VIII. Earth’s Curse Removed

A. Restoring harmony to creation – Rom. 8:19-23

No more weeds, thorns, poppy seeds or dangerous weather

B. No more dangerous insects or animals – Isa. 11:6, 8-9

C. No more disease - Increased longevity - Isa. 32:3-5; 65:20

No more shall an infant from there live but a few days, nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days; for the child shall die 100 years old, but the sinner being 100 years old will be accursed. (Warning of capital punishment)

D. Agriculture, cattle raising, food production & water resources prosper – Isa. 30:23-25

E. Benefits from the sun and moon are much greater. Increase in the intensity of their light transforms earth’s atmosphere and environment – Isa. 30:26

26 The moon will shine like the sun, and the sunlight will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven full days, when the LORD binds up the bruises of his people

F. People are still born sinners

Surviving “Tribulation believers” who enter the Kingdom in normal bodies will still be subject to sickness and death. They, and their children still have a sinful nature!

A. Millennial borders and division of the land

For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet, till her vindication shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch. 2 The nations will see your vindication, and all kings your glory; 3 You will be a crown of splendor in the LORD’s hand, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. 4 No longer will they call you Deserted, or name your land Desolate.For the LORD will take delight in you. 6 I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest, 7 till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.

D. Israel will inherit the land and never be removed again – Isa. 60:21-22

21 Your people will all be righteous; They shall inherit the land forever, the work of My hands, That I may be glorified. 22 A little one shall become a thousand, And a small one a strong nation. I, the LORD, will hasten it in its time.



E. Israel will receive a double blessing to replace the double punishment of her exile

6 And you will be called priests of the LORD, you will be named ministers of our God. You will feed on the wealth of nations, and in their riches you will boast. 7 Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. 9 All who see them will acknowledge that they are a people the LORD has blessed.

F. Messiah will personally protect Israel – Zech. 2:4-5

‘Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of people and animals in it. 5 And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I will be its glory within.’

G. Israel will reach the zenith of its purpose and mission – Zech. 8:23

23 The LORD Almighty says: In those days ten people from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.

1. Ratio: 10 to 1 = People, seeing the Jews so blessed in their kingdom, will demand to go and meet the Savior King

2. The Messiah, in the midst of millennial Israel, will be the attraction of the world

H. Jesus Stands with Israel in Mount Zion – Zech. 2:10-13

10 Shout and be glad, Daughter Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you, declares the LORD.

11 “Many nations will be joined with the LORD in that day and will become my people. I will live among you and you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me to you.

12 The LORD will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land and will again choose Jerusalem. 13 Be still before the LORD, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.”

I. Jerusalem called the “Throne of the Lord” – Center of Attraction – Jer. 3:16-17

16 Then it shall come to pass, when you are multiplied and increased in the land in those days, says the LORD, that they will say no more, ‘The ark of the covenant of the LORD.’ It shall not come to mind, nor shall they remember it, nor shall they visit it, nor shall it be made anymore. 17 At that time Jerusalem shall be called The Throne of the LORD, and all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem. No more shall they follow the dictates of their evil hearts.

J. International Peace Prevails – Isa. 19:23-25

23 In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will go to Egypt and the Egyptians to Assyria. The Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together. 24 In that day Israel will be the third, along with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing on the earth. 25 The LORD Almighty will bless them, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance.

K. Elimination of War

1. Christ will judge International disputes – Isa. 2:4a

And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks:

nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

3. The Lord toured Ezekiel in vision, reminding Ezekiel to tell the details – Ez. 40:4

2 The angel… set me on a very high mountain, on whose south side were buildings that looked like a city.

2. The City of God - Abraham looked for this city – Heb. 11:10

He was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.

In the last days the mountain of the LORD’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills. People say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the temple

C. Topographic Changes

1. “Valley of Escape” created by Second Coming earthquake (Zech. 14:4) becomes beautiful “River of Life Valley” for “living waters” in the Millennium – Zech. 14:8

4 On that day His Feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. 5 You will flee by my mountain valley. In that day living waters shall flow (east) from Jerusalem, half of them toward the Dead Sea and half of them toward the Mediterranean Sea

2. Mountains around Jerusalem flatten into a lush plain – Zech. 14:10a

10 The whole land, from Geba to Rimmon, south of Jerusalem, will become flattened like the Jordan valley.

3. Mt. Zion raised up and expanded into high mountain plateau – Zech. 14:10b

But Jerusalem will be raised up… and will remain in its place. 11 It will be inhabited; never again will it be destroyed.

12 This is the law of the temple: All the surrounding area on top of the mountain will be most holy. Such is the law of the temple – Ez. 43:12

1. The Lord’s portion of the land – Ez. 45:1, 4-5

‘When you allot the land as an inheritance, you are to present to the LORD a portion of the land as a sacred district, the entire area will be holy.

The Bible has much to say about Israel’s transformed topography and the dramatic changed features of Jerusalem and Mt. Zion in the Kingdom

In it will be the sanctuary, the Most Holy Place. 4 It will be the sacred portion of the land for the priests, who minister in the sanctuary. It will be a place for their houses as well as a holy place for the sanctuary. 5 An area will belong to the Levites as their possession for towns to live in.

5 The LORD will create above every dwelling place of Mount Zion, and above her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night. Over all the “glory” (“kavod” = glory, respect, honor, majesty) will be a covering.

5 “I... will be a wall of fire all around Jerusalem, and the glory in her midst… 10 for behold, I am coming and will dwell in your midst," says the LORD.



F. City of Jerusalem - The City of Truth (Zech. 8:7)

1. Larger than before (2 ½ times) — Six miles circumference

2. Located approx. 1 ½ miles south of the Temple

3. Twelve gates, each one named after a tribe of Israel – Ez. 48:30-34

4. City’s new name - ‘Jehovah-Shammah’ - Ez. 48:35

The name of the city from that time on will be: THE LORD IS THERE.

G. Millennial Temple

1. The Temple will be built by Jesus – Zech. 6:12-13

Everything about the temple is different from Solomon’s Temple 2. Larger, more grandeur than previous temples – Haggai 2:9

a. Ezekiel provides some 160 measurements – Ezekiel 40-48

b. Not located in the city of Jerusalem

This is the place of My throne and the place of…My feet, where I will dwell in the midst of Israel…forever.

4. What’s missing in the Millennial Temple?

a. All previous temple furniture is removed – They foreshadowed Jesus

b. The Ark of the Covenant is missing and not remembered – Jer. 3:16

16 In those days… people will no longer say, ‘The ark of the covenant of the LORD.’ It will never enter their minds or be remembered; it will not be missed, nor will another one be made.



5. Major change in the Priesthood

a. Levites forbidden to serve inside the Temple - Ez. 44:13-14

13 They are not to come near to serve me as priests or come near my holy things or my holy offerings; they must bear the shame of their

detestable practices. 14 I will make them keep charge of the temple

b. Zadok - Line of priests to serve inside the Temple – Ez. 44:15-31

Zadok kept charge of My sanctuary when Israel went astray… they will stand before me

c. No High Priest, Jesus is Mediator – 1 Tim 2:5

6. Purpose of Millennial Sacrifices – Ez. 40:38-47

a. The sacrificial system in the Millennium DOES NOT signal a return to the sacrificial system of the Old Testament – This is a new system of worship!

b. No sacrifice, before or after Christ, saves. Sacrifices only point to Jesus as the one true Lamb of God

Disobedience in this life has consequences in the Millennium

The sacrifices in the Millennium are literal and symbolic of Christ’s death. They serve as a continuous memorial that Messiah-Jesus has come, His blood has been shed, and

atonement has been made for our sins.

c. A large, imposing Alter for sacrifices – Ez. 43:13-17

1) Described literally in Hebrew as “ariel” = The Lion of God

2) The “Lion” Alter points to Jesus – Gen. 49:9; Rev. 5:5

d. Israel rejected their Messiah but, in His Kingdom, they’ll honor Him with memorial sacrifices that provide opportunity for worship and praise

e. They will have missed the memorial of the Lord’s Supper, but will have their own series of unique, memorial-sacrifices for 1,000 years

Mosaic Code = Two burnt offerings daily – Ex. 29:38-39

8. Worship Laws – “The Law of the Temple” – Ez. 43-46

a. Christ will teach the “Law of the Temple” with new regulations for worship and behavior in the Kingdom – Isa. 2:3

Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the Word of the Lord from Jerusalem

b. The Prince will oversee worship - Ez. 45:17

It shall be the prince's part to give burnt offerings, grain offerings, and drink offerings at the feasts, the New Moons, the Sabbaths, and appointed seasons

7. Restaurants and Kitchens – Ez. 46:19-24

These are the kitchens where those who minister at the temple are to cook the sacrifices of the people.

Ez. 43:27 - The priests are to present your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings (“Peace offerings”) on the altar.

Sacrificial Meal Replacing the Lord’s Supper in the Kingdom?

Peace offerings involve the worshipper and his family sharing in a sacrificial meal. The priests officiate and prepare a meal that’s eaten in the Temple court in celebration of Christ’s sacrifice

9. Feast of Tabernacles – Zech. 14:16-17

16 Then the survivors from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King and celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. 17 If any do not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD Almighty, they will have no rain.

Gentiles, former enemies, now pay respect to Israel - Isa. 60:1,11,14-15

Jerusalem is the only great city of the ancient world that wasn’t located on a river. In the east, a dependable water supply is essential for life and defense. During the Kingdom.

Jerusalem shall have a river such as no other nation ever had!

The man brought me back to the entrance to the temple, and I saw water coming out from under the threshold of the temple (Holy of Holies) toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was coming down from under the south side of the temple, south of the altar. 2 He then brought me out through the north gate and led me around the outside to the outer gate facing east, and the water was trickling from the south side.

3 As the man went eastward with a measuring line in his hand, he measured off a thousand

cubits and then led me through water that was ankle-deep. 4 He measured off another thousand cubits and led me through water that was knee-deep. He measured off another thousand and led me through water that was up to the waist. 5 He measured off another thousand, but now it was a river that I could not cross, because the water had risen and was deep enough to swim in—a river that no one could cross. 6 He asked me, “Son of man, do you see this?”

Then he led me back to the bank of the river. 7 When I arrived there, I saw a great number of trees on each side of the river. 8 He said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and cascades down the steep slopes into the Jordan Valley, where it enters the Dead Sea. When it empties into the sea, the salty water there becomes fresh. 9 Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live. 10 Fishermen will stand along the shore; from En Gedi to En Eglaim there will be places for spreading nets. The fish will be of many kinds—like the fish of the Mediterranean Sea.11 But the swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they will be left for salt. 12 Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit is food and their leaves are for healing.
