1.Integrity.Integrityisagoodcatchwordthatissimilartocharacterbutprovidesuswithadifferentwayoflookingattheideaofcharacter.Therootofintegritymeanswholeorundivided,andthatsaterrificwaytohelpusunderstandwhatintegrityisanundividedlife.Forexample,youdontactonewayinonesituationandanotherinadifferentsituation.Thereisintegrityandwholenesstoyourlife.Livingthiswaywillbuildtrustinyourfollowers.Anotheruseofthewordintegritythatprovidesinsightforusiswhenthewordisusedinregardtoaphysicalstructure.Awallorabuildingthatisstrongandhasnocracksissaidtohaveintegrity.Thesamecouldbesaidforgreatleaders.
2.Honesty.Itisregularlysaidthathonestyisthebestpolicy,butIwouldaddthathonestyistheonlypolicyforgreatleaders.Thinkaboutit.Whydopeoplehedgethetruth?Usuallyforafewbasicreasons:theyareeitherafraidoftheramificationsortheyaretryingtohidesomething.Eitherway,alackofhonestyresultsinthefactthatyoudestroythetrustofthosewhofollowyou.Evenifyoutellthemthetruth,buttheyknowyouhaveliedtoothers,itwilldestroythetrustyouhadwiththem.Theyfindthemselvesthinking,Ifhewilllietothem,willhelietome?
Iveneverunderstoodwhatpeoplehopetoaccomplishbybeingdishonest.Eventuallypeoplecometoknowthatyourenothonestinyourdealings,andthatiswhatyoubecomeknownfor.Yourreputationiswhatyourleadershipisbasedon,though.Whenwerehonestandlivetransparentlybeforeourfollowers,theyreabletoseeusforwhoweareandmakesoliddecisionstofollow.
3.Loyalty.Peopleofgoodcharacterareloyalpeople.Theyhaveastick-to-itattitudewhenitcomestoothers.Anybodywhoknowshumannatureknowsthatpeoplefail.Itsjustamatteroftime,nomatterhowtalentedsomeoneis.Apersonofgoodcharacterstayswiththeirfriendseveninthedowntimes.Anyonecanbefriendswithotherswhentimesaregood.Peopleofgoodcharacterstaywiththeirfriendswhentheyneedthemmost.Howthistranslatesintomakingyouagoodleaderisthis:Peoplewanttofollowaleaderwhowillstretchthembeyondwheretheyarenow,butwhollalsoallowthemtotryandtofail.Whenweareloyaltoourfollowers,theyllbeloyaltousandmakeeveryefforttosucceedonour
