Six Things is the name o the successulart exhibition at the Jewish Museumin New York City, based on an ongoing
project called Things I Have Learnedin My Lie So Far.
The exhibition, created by design frm
Sagmeister & Walsh, includes dynamic
videos with striking images projected on
fve walls. This exhibition is really exciting,
said Rebecca Shaykin, Leon Levy Assistant
Curator at the museum. It eatures six
maxims that have led to greater happinessor Stean Sagmeister, such as I I Dont
Ask I Wont Get, Be More Flexible, and Now
is Better.
The Exhibition
The videos eature phrases made romunexpected everyday objects, suchas jumping jello or plants in a sh tank.
Now is Better sounds like sel help, but the way he animates and brings itto lie is wonderully creative and very
surprising, and the way he chooses toillustrate these ideas brings out nuanceso the phrases that you might not get romjust reading them in type, said Shaykin.
The designer and his studio are known otheir use o unusual materials creatingwords out o bamboo or sugar cubes orwater balloons and the various objects
eatured in the show are actual objectsbeing videotaped. He likes to play arounwith peoples expectations with his choico material and video technique, she
added.
It was important to Stean or the videosto be as big as possible to create animmersive environment and to be ableto walk in between the walls and watch

both videos without having heads orbodies cast a shadow on the images todisrupt the viewing, explained Shaykin.
While the art was the brainchild o
Sagmeister & Walsh, the brains behindits successul execution was GlennPolly, President o Videosonic Systems,a systems integrator specializing inadvanced AV integration.
The Installation
The 2nd foor gallery housing the exhibitionis a relatively small and intimate space.Videos are projected onto ree-standing,monolithic walls that are 11 wide, 12 highand 16 deep. Two constructed walls are10 apart and have images projected
on both sides. The th video is projectedequally large on the back wall o thegallery, parallel to the ree-standing walls. The VPL-FH36 projectors installationsupport eatures, including 1.6x zoomlens, wide-range lens shit (V:+60%,H:+/-32%) and geometric correctioneatures, were ully utilized to achievethe precise projection, despite thelimited installation conditions.
When you enter the gallery, it was theartists intent to overwhelm you withthe scale o the video. The screens are
in your ace, said Polly. The projectedimages are bold and dynamic, using abroad range o colors and grey scaleeects. And the edges o the image alignprecisely with the edges o the wall there is absolutely zero over- or under-spill,Polly added.
Because the technology is hidden, the rst impression is that the images arecoming rom something other than
video projection. To achieve this eect,ve Sony VPL-FH36 black projectorswere installed high above the sight lines,
where they were blocked by the heighto the walls. In addition, the close proximi
o the images did not compromise theimage quality, because the projectorsincorporate the most current generationSony LCD panels. The color accuracywas dead on, said Polly. And there wereno visibly detectable grid or dot patternsassociated with images produced byother LCD panels or DLP technology.
Videosonic Systems system designstypically take the most minimalist
approach to achieve the goals or thenal integrated solution. Understandingthe diculty and challenges associated
People spend a lot
o time in that gallery;
weve gotten very
positive response to it.

We had great success
with Sony projectors;
they oer robust reliability
high quality images, and
very low maintenance;
we certainly will look to
Sony in the uture or anyo our projection needs.

about how impressedthey are with
image quality, with

with this installation, they needed to havethe fexibility to easily move the projectorsnearer or urther rom the screen surace.
We were looking or something that wouldallow us to get a certain size image in anite amount o space, said Niger Miles,Audio-Visual Coordinator at the museum.
It was dicult to sneak the imagesbetween the next closest screen wallwithout getting in the way o anotherprojector, so it was one o the more dicultinstallations I have ever done, said Polly.I dont think we would have been able todo this with any other projector, he added.
Why Sony Projectors Were
the Illuminating Choice
Polly believes the VPL-FH36 can supportalmost any application thrown at it in
museum exhibition conditions. It deliversvibrant pictures rom the BrightEraTM3LCD optical system, supports integrationwork with fexible lens shit and AdvancedGeometric Correction eature, and theclean-looking design easily blends intothe environment. It can support a varietyo inputs and has eatures such as aremote scheduler to power on and odaily, plus the ability to set an individual
IR Control address or each projector, which was very useul or the JewishMuseums installation, where multipleprojectors reside in the same space.
I chose the FH36 as it is ideal or aninstitution that supports temporary exhibitssaid Polly. There is a choice o our lenses, and the black housing disappears romsight in an install. The 5200 lumens isaccomplished with a single lamp, whichis also rated to have one o the longest
lamp lives in the industry. The projectorseems a bit brighter, has excellent colorreproduction and the black levels providehigh contrast images, said Polly. In theevent that an exhibit requires exactcolor matching, using a colorimeter, theFH36 can be re-calibrated to an exact
color scale under the conditions o theinstallation, a capability that very ewprojectors in this price range have.
I have been a longtime supporter oSony projection products, said Polly. They have been on the oreront o thistechnology or over 30 years. It was aneasy choice to recommend the FH36 tomy clients;the projector is economicallypriced, yet there is no compromisewith quality.
Sony provides a 3-year warranty. Duringthe rst year, Sony will replace a aultyprojector with an advanced loaner unit, while the unit is returned to be evaluated,he explained.
Miles agreed that the FH36 was the idealchoice. Im happy to work with theseparticular models, because specically

From the artistic aspect, Shaykin is thrilledwith the audience reaction. Ive had a lot
