CSOTFA Old Time Fiddle and PickingChampionship in March

2016 will mark the 50th anniversary of the CaliforniaState Old Time Fiddle and Picking Championship andthis year the competition will move to a new location.The Municipal Auditorium in Oroville, the usual hometo the fiddle contest, is undergoing renovation so theevent this year will be held at the Veteran’s MemorialHall at 2374 Montgomery Street. The Veteran’s Hallis located just a block east of the MunicipalAuditorium so it will be very easy to locate and willstill be just steps away from downtown Oroville. Theevent begins March 18th and the full schedule for theweek’s festivities can be found at CSOTFA.org, clickon the Contest Schedule tab.

District News

The of D9 Board of Directors held the first district meeting of 2016earlier this month at the home of John Durbin. There was a flow ofinformation and some time notched out for some picking as wellaccording to President Tom Clausen. See info on the meeting in thisnewsletter. We thank the group Common Thread for making the trekfrom the Tracy area to perform for us in the January PerformanceSpotLight. Sally Schneider, back from her second home in Virginia,hosted a Mid Winter Jam for the NorCal Harp Study Group at herhome in Castro Valley this month. It was a full house of talent,instruments on hand included autoharps, guitars, a dulcimer, awhistle, an ukulele and fiddles. The song list bounced betweenautoharp standards, folk, Irish, old time, camp songs and at leastone Grateful Dead tune. It was a fun afternoon and Sally said herneighbor said the playing sounded GooD. Sally is planning anotherget together this Summer. A BiG THANKS to Frank Fox for

volunteering to manage the liquid refreshment cooler.The D9 FaceBook page is growing a bit in content with a few newpictures being posted and our LIKEs are growing steadily as moreand more of the music community finds out about D9. District 9 CSOTFA StateRepresentative RuthOveland spoke tomembership during theJanuary Jam to bring us upto date on the State FiddleChampionship to be heldin Oroville in March. Theevent has moved to a newlocation this year and newalso will be District 9’sinvolvement. This yearRuth and D9 volunteerswill see to the operation ofthe RV parking area nextto the Veterans Hall wherethe Championship will beheld. Ruth urged as manyas can to head up toOroville for this fun eventand help support District 9in support of this fineevent. You can find contactinformation for Ruth at theback of the newsletter. D9set a record for attendanceat the 2015 Fiddle Contest,maybe we should try tobreak that attendancerecord this year. Talk toRuth.

The District 9 Board of Directors met fordiscussion of district issues at the home of JohnDurbin in Fremont on February 13th. Thoseattending included President Tom Clausen, VP AlTiexiera, Secretary Steve Goldfield, TreasurersJean Kalvig and Pearl Ray, Advisor John Durbinand State Representative Ruth Oveland.MaryAnn Clausen, Mark Kalvig and CharlieOveland were guest attendees. According to theMinutes of the meeting our finances are strong,rent on our meeting hall is paid. There wasdiscussion about audio and seating arrangement atthe Jams. It was agreed that D9 would fundsponsorship of the Junior Junior Division at thisyear’s Oroville contest. Ruth Oveland reportedthat the State treasury is good, membership isdown slightly and a membership recruitmentcommittee has been formed to boost our numbers.It appears that the future of D9 is in GooD Hands.A Thank You to our TCB Board of Directors..

Golden Parmesan Potatoes

Ingredients

4 potatoes, cut into quarters or eighths, I like using redpotatoes2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese2 tablespoons flour1/4 teaspoon saltdash of pepper4 tablespoons butter

In a small sealable plastic bag combine the flour,cheese, salt and pepper.Toss the cut potatoes in a small amount of olive oilbefore tossing them the flour mixture.In a large shallow baking pan that has been sprayedwith Pam, melt the butter in the pan before adding thepotatoes.Put the potatoes in a single layer in the baking pan.Bake in a 375 * oven for 30 minutes before turningonce then continue to bake 30 minutes longer.

Reheat Refrigerated Bread To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins thatwere refrigerated, place them in A microwave next to a cup of water. The

increased moisture will keep the food Moist and help it reheat faster.
