At the Ivy Listening Event, many of you told us that you won’t use the field behind Charter Road due to the amount of dog-fouling that occurs there. There are lots of children living in this area and many in homes that don’t have a garden, so this field is an important play space. That’s why we’ve launched a campaign to get part of it fenced off for recreation. Residents are now working with Wiltshire Council and Chippenham Town Council to find a way of creating a line of fencing alongside the footpath and opening up the play space. One of the supporters of this scheme, Terry, of Field View said “having the field fenced off will ensure families in this area can use it. We know that there have been many complaints about dog fouling in this field and if we can reduce this we will be able to spend our time on other things. As a community we can help to encourage local dog-walkers to use alternative areas. We want to include everyone but we do need some areas protected for play” Matt, another resident we spoke with said he would like to see improvements made to the play park including seating for parents. “Some years ago there were problems in this area of the field but the community worked together and we solved them. Now would be a good time to link the play park with the recreation field. There is nothing here for older children and the play park feels isolated. If we made the field dog-free and opened up the space we would see it used by more families and younger residents.” If you would like to help us to make these changes, or sign to show you support them, please call into the Ivy Hub or speak with us at the August Bank Holiday Fun Day. Residents team up to improve recreation spacesResidents team up to improve recreation spaces

As a neighbourhood, we’re lucky to have plenty of green space nearby, but we’ve heard from residents that it’s not always used in the best way.

We want to include everyone but we do need some areas protected for play”

Matt, another resident we spoke with said he would like to see improvements made to the play park including seating for parents. “Some years ago there were problems in this area of the field but the community worked together and we solved them. Now would be a good time to link the play park with the recreation field. There is nothing here for older children and the play park feels isolated. If we made the field dog-free and opened up the space we would see it used by more families and younger residents.”

Update on Sovereign Estate Improvements

Sovereign advises that their contractor, Blakedown, is now well on track to finish the re-paving work at Charter Road. Some unforeseen problems with underground services have now been fixed—including re-laying street light cabling, which was originally laid without any protective trunking!

Sovereign would like to thank residents who have endured the disruption whilst this work has been carried out. We all look forward to a better environment afterwards and we’ll feature this in the next issue of the Ivy News!

The Ivy Hub has changed it’s opening times following feedback and will now be open as a drop-in on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday between 1pm and 2pm or Friday between 1pm and 5pm. You are welcome to call in during these times to meet friends, use the IT kiosk, report a local issue, chat over a coffee or get involved in the community.

There are also some regular activities including Dads and Toddlers each Tues 3pm-5pm, a health & well-being drop-in each Weds 3pm-5pm and a Craft activity each Thurs 3pm-5pm. To find out what is going on at the Hub just call in, phone 01249 659472, or visit: www.tinyurl.com/theivyhub
