The Feast Day Cooking Rules: On ALL of the Feasts you can cook

regardless if you attend the holy gathering or not because food must be eaten

on those days except for the Day of Atonement, where we must fast. You can heat up your food that you bring home from the feasts as well. If the feast day

falls on the weekly Sabbath, then you are not permitted to cook for your

family on that day. The only cooking that can be done is the food you are presenting to the Lord at the holy gathering. Please share this information so

the confusion can die down and we can all be on one accord.

'Genetically Modified

Salmon' by Bro. James Shaw

You may have heard in the news recently, the FDA has

approved the sale of genetically modified salmon in stores.

These GM fish are not required to be labeled as such…

(Genetically modified, engineered or having transgenic

origins). The government has left the labeling requirements to

the manufacturer, if they choose to do so. So, would you be

able to identify genetically modified salmon if you saw it in

your local grocery store? The truth is, unless it is labeled as

such, you can’t!

What Are Some of the Reasons Behind Genetic

Modifications?

The reasons behind the genetic modification of salmon stems

anywhere from an alternate source of sustainable food, less

impact to our natural resources of salmon, contributes to

helping the environment, but downplays the profit

corporations can make to produce and sell an engineered

product without labeling it as such. Should there be some

adverse effects from the consumption of this product in

consumers, animals and the ecosystem, who will be liable

seeing that the FDA has agreed that GM salmon is safe for

consumption as the product requires no labeling.

What Did Scientists Do to Genetically Modify the Atlantic

salmon Subjects?

When the Atlantic salmon subjects were modified, a part or

parts were changed in their DNA without changing other

parts. The results produced a fish that looks similar to the

Atlantic salmon, but with different characteristics. Scientists

have changed the way it grows and have given these fish

genetically, the DNA from two different species. This is

known as being engineered from transgenic origins.

What’s Involved… The Outcome!

Scientists used parts from the Ocean Pout fish and the

Chinook salmon. The goal was to develop a bigger fish that

grows in much less time despite the fact that growth spurts in

natural wild salmon occur mostly in the spring and summer

times. It takes 16-36 months for salmon to grow to market

size.

The Ocean pout fish has an eel-like appearance which has

antifreeze proteins in its blood. These antifreeze proteins

enables it to withstand frigid temperatures and reproduce in

that type of environment. As for the Chinook salmon, it is

known as the king of salmons because of its large size.

The desired outcome was to (modify), increase the growth rate

of the salmon year-round without affecting its other

characteristics.

How Did Scientists Genetically Modify the Salmon?

Scientists took the (AFP) antifreeze (promoter gene) from the

ocean pout fish and a (GH) growth hormone gene from the

Chinook salmon. These genes were implanted into the Atlantic

salmon subjects at the embryonic /cellular level. At this stage,

their DNA was changed. This genetic modification, like a

switch, caused the growth hormone gene to stay on

continuously, accelerating the growth of the Atlantic salmon

subjects. The results are, the promoter (ocean pout antifreeze

gene + the growth hormone from the Chinook (King) salmon)

= an Atlantic salmon which can grow to market size in half the

time! $$$$$$$ Get the picture!

What Else Did Scientists Genetically Modify in These

Fish?

To satisfy concerns from the FDA about the possibility of

genetically modified fish mating with natural wild salmon,

they added an additional X chromosome which essentially

makes the GM salmon sterile. All the GM salmon were

engineered to be females to further decrease the possibility of

males breeding with females. Although more than 94% of all

the fish were completely sterile, the remaining percentage

were still able to reproduce. This small percentage was

considered to be non-threatening to the possibilities of the GM

salmon mating with natural wild salmon. These results

satisfied the FDA.

Studies, Concerns and Approvals

Although the company that currently produces these GM fish

AquaBounty, is a land-based operation, there are concerns that

if these fish were to enter the wild, they may not only mate

but, prey upon alternate sources. Because of their large size,

the thought is that they would not be seen as prey, granting

them longer existence in the wild. Remember, a little over 5%

of the test subjects were not completely sterile! Also, the

genetically altered salmon have smaller sized muscle fibers.

There also concerns that these fish could pose a health risk to

those who consume this type of fish.

In 2010, the FDA advisory panel concluded from the data they

reviewed was that the GM Atlantic salmon was still

considered to be Atlantic salmon. In November of 2015, the

FDA gave AquaBounty Technologies the approval to sell their

AquAdvantage salmon to US consumers. Because the FDA

concluded that there were no differences in the GM salmon,

such as in its nutritional profile, they need not be labeled as

genetically engineered. In the recent federal spending bill,

Congress has instructed the FDA on page 106, not to sell the

GM salmon until they put labeling guidelines in place. They

must also admit disclosure if a fish has been genetically

modified.

To date, labeling requirements are not required for the

AquAdvantage’s genetically modified salmon. To be safe,

should you want to purchase salmon in the future, your best

bet is to purchase wild caught salmon or go fishing. You

choose!

'Desire LOVE?' By Sis. Dacia

We all desire love and love is a beautiful

thing. I share this message because at one

point I found myself seeking #LOVE but not in the right

order. I sought romantic love to fill voids, I sought romantic

love because society makes you feel less than when you're

single...like something is wrong with you. Whether you're

married or single there is always room to grow in Love. I

share this in LOVE hoping that someone is encouraged. Here

are a few steps to getting better results in Love.

LOVE GOD

1. Give it ALL to #God. This is ground zero. If we think we

can do anything without God we deceive ourselves. Pray. Fast.

Read. Repeat. Sometimes we want to jump to romantic love

and we haven't even begun to love God in totality. Not like,

"yeah, me and God are cool, I'm at church every week, or I'm

a good person." We must chase after God in the same way

some of us chase after a mate. Ask yourself, How can I love

God more? Does he really have my full attention? Is he

pleased with my relationship with Him? Don't forget who is

ALWAYS our first love.

P.s. You can't rush this step. Being happy and content with

God and God alone is a great place to be. If you are single,

rest in that place. God has you there for a reason. You're

building a foundation so you can stand on a strong and solid

rock. (And that rock was #Christ) In focusing on God,

learning about God, reading His Instruction manual, truly

understanding His plan for your life -- you give him complete

control of your life. He then can mold your mind, heal, and

guide you. God is LOVE.

LOVE YOURSELF

2. By learning how to love God you begin to truly LOVE

YOURSELF. This is your time to work on YOU. You

understand that you are wonderfully made, that you are God's

chosen, that you are beautiful and precious. When you truly

love yourself you can choose #peace, #happiness, #joy,

laughter, kindness, develop the strength to avoid negative

thoughts and negative people. You begin to make healthier

choices, treat your body right, discover new hobbies, and

embrace being #single. You begin to HEAL from past hurts

and disappointments. (Healing is so important. Take time to

heal and connect with the only one who can heal you.) You

don't substitute sex for love. I REPEAT, You don't substitute

sex for love. You begin to have the strength to remove anyone

from your inner circle that doesn't value you in the ways you

value yourself. You relinquish excess baggage and make

room for new love. You are content and genuinely #happy.

P.s. You can't rush this phase either. I can't stress how

important it is to really love yourself.

LOVE OTHERS

3. NOW. And only now are you ready and available to GIVE

and receive love. You attract LOVE because you are LOVE.

We attract what we are. So, You'll be happier when you've

taken time to connect with God and learn to love yourself

more. As a result you will build better friendships and

#relationships (romantic or non-romantic). (Acquiring love

isn't always about romantic relationships. Remember we can't

profess we love God if we can't love our brother we see

everyday.) All in all it is important to be patient. You aren't

holding your breath waiting on the next person to come along.

You aren't #hurt or disappointed that it hasn't happened yet.

You aren't focused on it. It just comes... And at that perfect

time, God's time, you will receive LOVE.

Life and love is about growth. It's NEVER too late to grow in

love. The secret is you will always work on loving God,

Loving yourself, and Loving others.

GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms) Salmon

AquAdvantage has created Salmon using a growth hormone

from Chinook salmon and a gene from an eel-like ocean fish

that makes it reach market size twice as quickly as other

salmon. It has been approved by the FDA and doesn't have to

be declared on labels as a GMO.

To be safe, only buy "WILD CAUGHT SALMON" fresh or

canned.

Corn Beef at Food 4 Less Deli

It has been reported to us that the Corn Beef at this store

contains pork. An employee informed us, so please check with

them if you buy from this store to see if this is the case at all

locations or just one in particular. Let us know what you find.

Kirkland Signature

Their Kirkland brand multi vitamins contains gelatin which is

derived from porcine (pork). They are unclean.

Food Source LP (Aldi's)

Their Season's Choice Vegetable Lasagna contains cheese

enzymes and cultures from vegetable sources. It is designated

Clean.

Swanson Health Products

They have a large selection of products, so please read the

labels. The gelatin used in their products is either bovine

(beef) or pork (pig). If it's not stated in the ingredients legend

which is used, they don't have a way of finding out. They do

have some products that are kosher certified. Check with the

organization that certifies the product to verify whether it is

clean or not since all of them are not the same. www.swansonvitamins.com

Hostess Snack Cakes

The gelatin used in some of their products (Chocolate

Cupcakes, Orange Cupcakes, Sno-Balls) is from pork and are

designated Unclean. Check the labels for pork ingredients.

Some of their products (Red Velvet, Baseball Cupcakes, Sno-

Balls) contain carmine, which is an unclean food coloring.

They are Unclean. Again, check the label for this ingredient.

None of their products are safe for vegetarians and at this time

none of them contain L-Cysteine.

Patti Labelle Pie

The Patti Labelle Sweet Potato Pie contains L-Cysteine from

Duck and is designated Unclean.

Great Value Ice Cream (Wal-Mart)

Most of their Ice Cream Products are certified kosher by the

OU (Orthox Union) and are designated Clean. Must bear the

OU symbol and have no L-Cystein in the ingredient legend.

Meat Glue (Transglutaminase)

In commercial food processing, transglutaminase is used to

bond proteins together. Examples of foods made using

transglutaminase include imitation crabmeat, and fish balls. It

is produced by Streptoverticillium mobaraense fermentation in

commercial quantities or extracted from animal blood (blood

plasma of pigs and cows, specifically the coagulant that makes

blood clot), and is used in a variety of processes, including the

production of processed meat and fish products.

Transglutaminase can be used as a binding agent to improve

the texture of protein-rich foods such as surimi (ground meat)

It is our insistence that if you buy chicken nuggets, fish

nuggets, filet mignon, or any meat product that you may think

was made with this ingredient, please contact the company to

verify whether meat glue was used or not. We know that it is

against God's Dietary Law to consume blood, so be careful.

Wines, Beers & Liquors

During the fining process (the process of making proteins in a

wine clump together so it can easily be removed) some wine

companies use gelatin (pork, beef, etc.), shellfish and/or

isinglass (from catfish), egg whites or egg shells. For this

reason, please make sure the liquor you purchase is clean. The

following website has a search engine for vegan wines, beer

the company that makes the product you want to purchase and

inquire about the ingredients and the fining process that is

used.

White Castle Restaurant

As of now, all of their buns are free of L-Cysteine regardless

of the color of the strap on the packaging.

The Waffles are free of unclean ingredients and are designated

Clean.

The White Gravy is UNCLEAN. It contains rendered bacon

fat.

Strawberry Topping - The 'Natural Flavoring' is from

botanical sources. It is designated Clean.

Whipped Topping - The Sodium Caseinate is from cow's milk,

the Polysorbate 60 and the Sorbian Monostearate are

vegetable sources. It is designated Clean.

NOW Products (foods/vitamins)

The two piece hard shell capsules that lists gelatin, the source

is derived from pork and beef gelatin. They are Unclean.

The softgels are derived from beef gelatin. Not kosher

certified. They are Clean.

The Veg caps are derived from tree fiber. They are Clean.

This company makes over 100 products, so please make sure

that the product you purchase is certified kosher by the OU,

OK and not just a K. There are several kosher organizations

that accept chemically modified pork gelatin.

'Broken'

Shattered am I; unable to gather the pieces of my existence. With eyes wide open that cannot see; I’ve lost my identity. I need someone to rescue me.

Overwhelmed by life; its pressures weigh heavy on my heart. It’s beating, yet I can’t seem to breathe. So I sparingly take a breath or two for some relief. As I approach my bedroom dresser there’s a reflection in the mirror, who’s that stranger? There’s a face I don’t recognize starring back at me.

An open wound am I, emotionally bleeding on the inside. Exposed to those with eyes to see, I retreat within trying to hide from me. I open my mouth but there is no sound coming out. Am I going insane? Am I losing my mind? My soul began screaming violently, so loud my ears started tingling. My hands began to move. Am I losing physical control? As though they had a mind of their own, my hands reach out for help; suddenly they came together in prayer.

We enter this universe pure, whole and innocent. Over exposed to a world of greed and lust, leave ones true self broken into pieces. We live for the sake of mending but by ourselves that’s unrealistic. We reach out to others, looking for a remedy? Most often friends and family don’t know how to help me. Who do you turn to?

An empty life unfulfilled, going nowhere fast, a crooked path; guilt and pain, feels like hell. I had a break through, only after I broke down. That’s when I found my joy; when I turned back to the Lord. That’s what it took to emerge from this broken state of mind. It humbled me, giving me the courage to reach out for help; no shame in that. I started with prayer, forgiving myself.

Evaporating – my soul feels like it's floating away; can’t catch up to it. I got kicked out of my life. A life I no longer regret. Those pressures - weight on my shoulders - knees bent, ankles shackled no longer exist. Mind and soul – set free to live a life of joy with the Lord. Not having to live up to others expectations, faithful to God not man who God created.

In the beginning, God breathe life into man. Let God breathe life back into your weary mind. Start your life all over again. He’ll never leave you, let him heal you. What can man do for you that God can’t do better, his help will last forever.

When you’re broken and a wreck; and your heart has shattered, unable to mend itself. Let God be that glue that re-unites you. Let God rescue you from you. “ In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears." - Psalms 18:6
