RULES & REGS CORNER GROUNDS CORNER

Rules & Regs Committee

The Facilitators

Most of us have been guilty of occasionally ex-

ceeding the speed limit. But there is a differ-

ence between going a few mph over the limit on I-

75 and speeding in The Isles. The speed limit for

most of the public roadways in The Isles is 25

mph. The exceptions being 10 mph on sharp curves

on Guarino and the "corkscrew" at the south cor-

ner of Burgos/Aviano. Additionally, there are two

15 mph turns on Abaco. The private roads in the

back of residences also have a 15 mph limit.

Some areas may require extra caution. For exam-

ple, the area between Aviano and Guarino on Bur-

gos is the busiest in The Isles, with many parked

cars. More importantly, it is where many of our

children live. So while the limit may be 25 mph,

perhaps more like 20 mph is advisable.

Coming off of Honore onto Aviano please remember

to slow down and watch for traffic coming south

on Burgos and crossing Aviano. There are some

bushes on the divider that can partially obstruct

your vision. Slow down, take it easy and we can

continue to make The Isles a safe and pleasant

place to live.

Next Rules & Regs Committee Meeting:

11/15 @ 9:00 in the card room of the Town Center.

All are welcome.

Chairperson

Jeannette Munger

Grounds Committee

The committee hopes you are pleased with the addi-tional amount of mulch that was applied this year. In addition to the esthetics, it should help to bring a little

more control over the weeds November will bring political change to this country, but also change to the Grounds Committee. We are in need of new volunteers to help keep The Isles an attrac-tive place to live. You would enjoy learning and being a part of the decisions that take place “behind the scenes”. Perhaps you have gardening knowledge or maybe would just like to take the minutes at the meetings which are held every other month. Attending the November meeting in the card room would be an opportunity to see us at work. An application form was in last months’

newsletter, or ask Roz for one. “When the world wearies and society ceases to

satisfy, there’s always the garden.”

……. Minnie Aumonier Next Grounds Committee meeting - November 3,

2016 @ 1:00PM

GARDEN CORNER

Updates from BrightView November 2016 Thanksgiving is upon us and with it are the cooler day-time temperatures and nights. I don’t expect to see any frost on the pumpkin but it certainly is a welcome re-

prieve from the stifling heat and humidity. The cooler temperatures have certainly slowed the growth of turf and plant material. The warm season St. Augustine turf substantially slows after the first cool nights. The cool nights and Cutlass are working to slow

growth of the plant material. The turf will continue to be monitored for insects and disease, but it is less likely to show signs because of the lack of stress from reduced temperatures. A balanced treatment was applied to turf to enhance color and promote healthy root and shoot growth. With the re-duced rainfall, irrigation will be checking for hotspots

and assuring these areas are fixed. The mulch application which looks very nice through-out the campus looks very nice and it provides a cool-ing blanket for plants, it retains moisture and helps pre-

vent weed growth. Mowing will be an alternating weekly service and will include all the usual suspects, mowing, blowing, weed whip and hard surface edging. The only difference soft

edging will be done once per month. Finally I want to wish all of you a very Happy Thanks-

giving. BrightView appreciates your loyalty and commits to creating a beautiful place to live.

Archictural Control Committee It has been brought to the attention of the Architectural Control Committee that many homeowners are not aware of the policy regarding decorative lighting. So we thought we would address it. The Isles documents regarding exterior lighting is the following: SECTION 27. Lighting: Except for seasonal decorative lights, which may be displayed between December 1, and January 10 only, all exterior lights must be approved in writing by the

Committee. Any seasonal decorations for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Easter and etc. should be displayed no more than 30 days before and removed 14 days after the event. Decorations with lights for sea-sonal decorations other than between the period of 12/1 and 1/10 must be approved by the ACC. Decorations must be accept-able to the committee and not interfere with landscaping mainte-

nance. Halloween cob webs on bushes may result in the bushes not being trimmed. Blow up figures and other decorations that kill or damage vegetation will result in restoration charges to the homeowner. Carol E Solomon ACC Chairperson

Green & Clean – in the Isles Green Cleaning

Employ green cleaning products: combine

baking soda and vinegar plus warm water and you can clean almost any-

thing

Be careful using anti-bacterial cleansers. Evidence is mounting that they can

have harmful effects

Clean your indoor air naturally; plants are great for filtering indoor air and instead of expensive air fresheners try boiling a mixture of cinnamon, cloves

or other favorite (and fragrant) herbs

For more tips go to: http://www.treehugger.com/htgg/how-to-go-
