Assessment and Registration

Applications for internship registration are sent to Final Medical year students by the Medical

Council in April/May of Final Year. All new interns must be registered before the start of the

intern year.

To enable full registration at the end of 12 months, an intern must comply with the Medical

Council guidelines (see slide 9). This is monitored by the office of the Intern Network

Coordinator by way of 4 reports, one for each rotation, issued to consultant trainers. The trainer

meets with the intern and the report is then signed off by both. Failure to be signed off

satisfactorily or the non-return of reports may result in an intern being unable to progress.

Please note: each intern is responsible for the sign off and return of his/her reports

The Intern Network Coordinator, based on the above being satisfactory, will recommend an

intern to the Medical Council for a Certificate of Experience. These will now be issued solely

by the Medical Council.
