Grand Knight’s Message

My Fellow Brothers-

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who participate in a little known (to most members, that is) service that we at Council #13520 perform every Tuesday and Wednesday, come rain or shine. It is my pleasure to name this event, the “Triece Brigade”, named after Harry Triece (who passed away in 2014), who did it by himself, for a long time, followed by a group of guys that now form 6 teams that carry on the tradi-tion…….

We collect day old bread, cakes and pastries (not expired) from two Thumb Stores in the area and deliver it to the “Missionaries of Charity” in Oak Cliff. The following Guys are to be congratulated for their service- Larry Milliken (who heads up the scheduling and event), Larry Brennan, John Meyer, Ron Schott, Ed Murphy, Ed Monaghan, Bob Wise, Henry Dominguez, and Al Steindorf.

If you are interested in getting involved, please let Larry know, at our meet-ing or email Larry at [email protected]. It will spread the load around, you won’t be disappointed.

Hope to see you all at our Officer Installation and Dinner on the 20th

First Friday Adoration

The first Friday in July is the 2nd, and our Council will hold its monthly first

Friday adoration.

Adoration starts at 9:00 PM and lasts until the 9:00 AM mass Saturday

morning.

The wee hours of Saturday morning are the hardest to fill, so if you can

sign up to spend time with the Blessed Sacrament during those hours.

If you can’t make time at night, make some time to pray during the day.

An Old Man’s Heart, Faith and Courage

A group of men, Jews, quickly walk back into town talking and laughing. Behind them laying in the dirt is a man. A man

bruised, beaten and bleeding. They have just finished stoning the man, a Jew, leaving him for dead.

After a while you see a tiny bit of movement. He is not dead. Slowly he moves, very tentatively. A couple of men arrive and

huddle around him. They help him slowly get up. He begins to walk and they animatedly begin to talk to him. They stop him

from walking and engage in a contested discussion. The man shakes his head. Instead of walking away to safety the man

starts walking back into town.

You would think that this man had the common sense of one of the stones they bounced off his head! Why would he go back

into a town where the men that stoned him are? Was he nuts? No, what he had few others ever had or have now. One, he

had a heart the size of a whale. Second, he had the Faith the size of a mountain and thirdly, he had courage the size of an

ocean. He was a special man. Who was he?

His given name was Saul, but he changed that to Paul for his ministry. Why was this brave man stoned? What crime did he

commit that was so grievous?

He evangelized the Gentiles. He didn’t dialogue, he evangelized.

Yes, he told them about the Truth and the Way. He told them about Jesus Christ. He changed the way they thought and lived.

He taught the way of God and what God expected. He taught about the Son of God and his sacrifice for their sins. He taught

the Gospel.

This new progressive teaching had them learn new moral codes. They should no longer get drunk and party all night. They

could no longer have homosexual relationships. They could no longer abort their babies or leave unwanted infants out at a

garbage dump to die. He taught the love of Christ and the Father. He gave them the Holy Spirit and they more than lis-

tened…..they believed.

We call him St. Paul the Apostle, and for 1900 years we Christians and most of the civilized World followed these teachings.

We took up St. Paul’s preaching and actions as our own and evangelized nation after nation.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spir-

it, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the

age.” Matthew 28:19-20.

Let’s look at what we face in today’s society. An almost complete regression back to the Pagan days of the Greek and Roman

Gentiles that St. Paul encountered. We have a society that glorifies homosexuals and their unions. It is legal to abort our ba-

bies and recently it has become legal in some States to just leave a live infant on a cold table to cry until he or she dies. Moral-

ity has become relative to individual wants. Much like the Pagans in Paul’s time.

My how we have regressed.

We need the Heart, Faith, and Courage of an old man from long ago. St. Paul, ora pro nobis.

Ave Maria

Join the 4th degree

Newly installed Navigator of the Christopher Columbus Assembly, our own Larry Amidei, and

PFN Bob Wilson gave a short talk at our business meeting inviting the assembled brothers to

join the 4th Degree Assembly.

The 4th Degree is the patriotic arm of the Knights of Columbus, and concentrates mostly on

patriotic events and veteran support.

It is also the public visible arm as well, through a very distinctive honor guard called the Color

Corps. This year the uniform for the Color Corps has changed, but previous years, they sported a tux, cape, and

plumed chapeau. You do not have to participate in the Color Corps as a member of the Assembly.

To join you need to be a 3rd degree Knight in good standing, and you will need a dark suit . The 4th degree generally

hold more social events than a typical 3rd degree Council, and many of the functions are formal.

There are two exemplifications this fall, one in September at St. Anthony in Wylie, the other at Good Shepherd in Fort

Worth in October. If you wish to join, you’ll need a Exemplification packet, which you can get by contacting Sir Knight

Jack Ayers, or Faithful Navigator Larry Amidei. As you’d need to be voted into the Assembly, time is short to be able

to make the September date, so don’t hesitate.

Knight & Family of the Month

The family of the Month for June is:

Jim & Karen DeSmet. Shown above.

The Knight of the Month for June is:

Bob Jansen.

All are deeply involved in Pro-life activities.

SK Mike Riley Receives Award (Finally) Word has it that an elusive, former Financial Secretary, SK Mike Riley was finally awarded his Knight of the Month award from this past April! I must say that it took the coor-dination of having the certificate and Mr. Riley being avail-able. GK Stan made the announcement after the 11:00 Mass and with the help of Stan Schweiterman and Bob Faulkner, got it done! Needless to say, he was surprised....... Thank you Mike for all your past service!
