Principal’s Message Curriculum P-2 Wow! The start of our least week of school and what a term full of learning it has been. The children have shown that they can learn and follow routines as well as apply the content that has been taught to them over the last nine weeks of school. We will complete our assessment this week with time for some fun Easter Activities mixed in between. There may also be a special hunt on Friday as part of the well-deserved reward day. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful volunteers who religiously come into the classroom and help so selflessly. You help make our program run smoothly and with smaller groups. Mrs Window, Mrs Stewart and Mrs Hart, I hope you can see how much your assistance is appreciated in our classroom. To all the P-2 Families, have a restful holiday and safe Easter with your loved ones and I will look forward to seeing the happy, smiley faces of your children at the beginning of Term 2. Happy Easter, Mrs Forrest Year 3-6 Welcome to the last week of term. This is a little disjoined week with students finishing off a number of assessments in most key learning areas or with students getting prepared for next term. As per each year, every term is always busy and next term is no different. Students have English assessment and comprehension booklets to complete, math testing in both areas of financial mathematics and chance, finalisation of Science unit Good to Grow and consolidation of both History and Geography. Students should have a nice portfolio of art work to display early next term as well as some interesting developments with our digital technologies. If you are interested in discussing your child’s progress please let me know and I will make a time to speak with you. Have a happy and restful Easter break and I look forward to seeing you all next term. Leyburn State School is committed to developing respectful, resilient, responsible and safe students with embedded values towards lifelong wellbeing. This will entail setting the direction and focus of the school for the next 4 years. The P&C is consulted heavily during this time and all community members are welcome to express their opinions, listen to ideas and influence learning environment for your children. Year 6 Leaders Ceremony On last Friday, the school held its annual Year 6 leaders ceremony. Students in year 6 spent the week writing and learning a school pledge. On Friday they were charged with upholding this pledge across the school year as well as undertaking some leadership roles in the school. Students looked great in their new Year 6 shirts and I look forward to working with all Year 6 students in their leadership roles. Attendance Our attendance is looking great. Thank you to everyone for making this such a wonderful end to the term. You are giving your child the best chance of gaining their best education. Our attendance rate is 92.6% for the first 9 weeks of the year. Well done for beating the state target!! I look forward to beating this again next term. We all have different personalities which governs to a large extent our attitudes and behaviours. It’s interesting to observe that most of the time, especially in close relationships; we expect others to be just like us. We forget that our differences were usually what attracted us in the first place. If you are a rigid, black and white sort of person, you would need to understand that a friend may be casual, flexible and laid back. Putting your expectations of how you feel onto another rarely has a positive outcome. Being able to identify your own type of personality will help your relationship with others especially if you don’t have unrealistic expectations that everyone is just like you. Good communication is the key to a healthy resolution or compromise. Quotes Always be yourself, everyone else is taken. Beauty attracts the eye, but personality captures the heart. An ugly personality destroys a pretty face Finally… be the type of person you’d like to hang out with.
