A Note From The Editor:

–The Demise of THE INFORMER–It has been my greatest pleasure promoting and supporting the local

scene for the past fifteen months. I have personally watched it grow into a thriving beast of fury, and have met a lot of great people along the

way. But as they say, “All good things must come to an End”. Due to the financial factors of life and business, this will be the last issue.

Thank’s goes out to all of you who helped keep THE INFORMER going for as long as it did. Without the support from the advertisers who did

jump on board, and the contributors that actually stepped forward,I couldn’t have made it this far.

Keep those Metal Horns up and continue to support the scene, because we all know what happens when you don’t support something: It dies.

TONY IOMMI: ‘I’VE GONE MAD, WRITING LOADS OF RIFFS AGAIN’BLACK SABBATH/HEAVEN & HELL guitarist Tony Iommi has revealed to U.K.’s Metal Hammer magazine that he has begun work on new material with the hopes of launching the ‘next phase” of his career alongside longtime BLACK SABBATH band mate/bassist Geezer Butler. Whether or not this will be part of a BLACK SABBATH reunion or a new project remains unclear at present, but Iommi has said, “What I’m doing now is writing. I’ve gone mad, writing loads of riffs again. I’m really enjoying it, putting stuff together. We will be doing something. I’m in touch with Geezer a lot now and we’ve been talking about what the next phase is going to be. It’ll be great to get out and do something again. I don’t normally say this, but there’s some great ideas coming out. That’s all I’ve got to do right now. Sit and write riffs!”

GWAR FRONTMAN CALLS ROB ZOMBIE ‘PLAGIARISTIC’ AND ‘UNINSPIRED’Musicpix.net recently conducted an interview with GWAR front-man Oderus Urungus. A couple of excerpts follow.

On LORDI:“Did you see how the guys from LORDI threw out their drummer because he took his costume off?

See, if they just were like GWAR, they wouldn’t have to wear costumes, they could just be themselves.”

On Rob Zombie:“I think Rob Zombie is, like, the most plagiaristic, uninspired... ‘Let’s remake ‘Halloween’... Let’s steal everything from ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ and put in my movie and pretend like it’s mine.’ If they would step up and let GWAR, which has been the most consistently awesome force in shock-rock for 25 fucking years, let GWAR make a fucking movie about... about GWAR, and it would be super-cool . . . We’d love to just shake our magic dick wand and make a movie, but unfortunate-ly, these things cost millions of dollars to do and I have a crack habit to support, which is fucking pretty considerable. But if Rob Zombie was willing to spend his money, I would let him make a movie about me.”

THE SWORD DRUMMER QUITSOn the heels of the cancellation of their European tour, Austin, Texas luminaries THE SWORD are also regretfully cancelling the remainder of their scheduled U.S. dates due to the departure of their drummer, Trivett Wingo. The split is amicable and both Trivett and the rest of the band wish each other the best of the luck with their respective plans. THE SWORD is already working diligently to reschedule its dates.

Commented Trivett: “It is with deep sadness that I am announcing my departure from THE SWORD.” AS I LAY DYING: ‘THE POWER-LESS RISE’ SUPER DELUXE FAN BOX SET DUE IN NOVEMBERSan Diego, California metallers AS I LAY DYING will release a super deluxe fan box set version of their latest album, “The Powerless Rise”, in November.

I feel it is safe to say ThroatKick is a very well known Prince George band. They have a very strong Hardcore background and the fan base to prove it. When keyboards were added to the line up their sound began to expand into the Electronica world. As a result the band’s live shows are very high energy and fun as hell. Right now the line up consists of: Mark - Bass, Riley - Drums, Leigh - Keys/Vocals, Kyle G - Guitar, Kyle P - Vocals, and Warren - Merch girl… I’m not quite sure about that last one. Anyway, the boys just got back from a cross Canada tour and we just had enough time to line up this interview for our last issue.

What genre of music do you consider your work to be?We’re somewhere between Metal and Hardcore with a lot of key and synth elements.

Who are your major influences? What other types of music do you listen too?Aqua and The Acacia Strain

The name ThroatKick is a pretty brutal name. Why did you go with that name? Did you ever call yourselves anything different? It was better than “Virgin Mary is a Cunt”.

How long has ThroatKick been together? What inspired you to make music together?Things started on King Drive in 2004 as a way to kill time and became more serious over the years.

Are there any other forms of art (movies, books etc.) that influence your writing?Spoilsbury toast boy and the human centipede.

How has your music evolved since you first began playing music together?ThroatKick was a Punk band in the beginning and through member changes and excessive drinking the tuning just kept getting lower.

How do you feel about maintaining an “Online” presence for your band? How has it helped you? Where can Metal fans find you guys?Just keeping up on our myspace and facebook pages, we probably don’t keep up on it as much as we should.

So you guys just returned from a cross Canada Tour. How was it for all of you?We played 19 shows in 28 days and played with a huge variety of bands. It was interesting to see how different local scenes are, as well as how having a good local promoter makes a world of a difference. coughRyanGcough.

What is the best story about the tour?We had so many great experiences, from Nightmares Fear Factory in Niagara Falls to watching a member of GFAP (our tour friends) slay a dragon in the venue bathroom. And when I say dragon, I MEAN DRAGON! ;)

What is the worst story about the tour?Probably the most devastating to us was when the trailer unhitched itself from the van and collided with a parked truck in Regina. Mark’s bass cab suffered the most damage with two broken speakers but luckily enough it continued to work through the rest of tour. A close second would have to be Jon’s beard.

I think it is cool to hear the Breakcore and Electronica elements in your music. When did that start? How have your long term fans responded to it?Robot Attack was mostly a joke song but people were really stoked on it and it has just progressed from there.

Has approaching these very different types of genres changed your music-making process?Drinking and jamming influenced a lot of the songs, it’s just like any other musical process, you bounce ideas back and forth until the end result sticks.

There are a bunch of recording videos on your myspace page right now. Is the album done? How can we get a hold of the new album? We had a CD release/tour kick off show at the end of August. It’s available at our shows or through the Nugget house. We have a special promotion right now, CD/8th combo for $30. What a steal!

It is very clear that you guys are working really hard right now, what’s the ultimate plan? Do you see yourselves pushing this band until you’re rich and famous? It’s highly unrealistic to look at what we have and expect to become rich off of it. We’re just writing right now and playing what we want to hear and if people like it then that’s great. As long as we can all get together and keep creating music then that’s what’s going to happen.

As a band, have you guys ever experienced any major set backs (band members leaving, etc)? How did you deal with them?Nothing too detrimental, Leigh is off for school right now so we’re taking this time to write 3-4 songs to be recorded in February.

What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous? We basically took a couple weeks off from seeing each other after the tour but just started getting together for a couple hours a week and discussing where we want to go with these new songs.

Any advice for the kids who want to form their own bands?Just jam a lot and don’t confine yourself to a certain genre, expand your influences. Investing into decent gear is a must if you expect to be taken seriously.

Is there anyone you’d like to acknowledge for offering financial or emotional support? All Mark’s long lost family members he was reunited with during the tour, it was highly emotional.

Any last words? Lorence kissed a tiger and he liked it (The taste of the tiger chapstick).

Mark Pye
