This year’s Global Leadership Summit heldby Dr. Myles Munroe in Freeport, Ba-hamas, was one of the most successful

events held around the world that had as itstheme, CHARACTER: The Moral Force of Lead-ership.The event brought together people from aroundthe globe to be trained in the most important as-pect of leadership, character; which has becomea determinant in leadership around the world, inboth the secular and church theaters.

We realized at the event that the world is not lack-ing in leadership, but rather abounds in leaders

with charisma and ideology who lack the mostsustaining force in leadership, which is charac-ter. The contemporary crisis of character in lead-ership is alarming, insofar as leaders determinethe direction, security, and prosperity of cultures, societies and nations.

A leader is a person who has a vi-sion of the future and possesses theconviction that he can bring changeto the current situation, by servinghis vision and mission to achievehis purpose in life. A leader mustlive by a set of rules that governtheir leadership and purpose forstaying on course; and one of themost important and neglectedstrongholds of a leader is character.

What is Character?Character is a mark, an imprint, a statue, or theoutward appearance of one’s true self: the wayyou live, talk, and act. It was revealed that a per-son’s gift will take him to places, but characterwill keep him there. Tiger Woods was worth$900,000. Playing golf gave him only $100,000and product endorsements gave him $800,000;but when his true character was revealed throughhis involvement with several women, he lost allhis endorsements and had to start all over again,by building trust among his fans. The same crisisbefell Lance Armstrong, world-renowned cyclist,

Christmas is a time that believers and individ-uals all over the world partake in the cele-bration of the birth of our Savior & King

Jesus Christ. Christmas symbolizes newness, transformation, and hope for the future. (Matthew1:21; Luke 2:13-14). Throughout the year we arechallenged, persecuted, abandoned, isolated, ridiculed, confronted with loss & death; neverthe-less we have cause to celebrate Christ this year.

In the movie “A Christmas Carol, the Ghost ofChristmas”, the Holy Spirit ministers to the maincharacter Ebenezer Scrooge in a three-fold fash-ion: traveling from the past, the future, and the pres-

ent; in an attempt to motivate towards repentanceonto transformation. The movie shows scenes fromhis past that occurred on or around Christmas, inorder to demonstrate to him the necessity of chang-ing his ways; as well as to show the audience howScrooge came to be the person he was, and hisparticular dislike for Christmas.

Similar to the movie, many individuals, especiallybelievers, allow negative experiences to dictateone’s ability to love and manifest the hope that wehave in Christ. “…God hath not given us the spirit offear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind(2 Timothy 1:7). Fear of the known and unknownhas crippled us into believing that Christmas is anordinary time; however, Christmas is a time of re-birth, rededication, giving, and love. Let us re-member to give the gift that keeps on giving, whichis the love of Christ; for the love of Christ grants useternal life and blessings forevermore. The Bible

says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave hisonly begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in himshould not perish, but have everlasting life” (John3:16).

Ebenezer Scrooge relinquished himself onto theSpirit of Christ, thus brining great transformation intohis life. He no longer became a slave to the hurtfulepisodes of his challenging past. He, however, re-pented to trust God again, knowing that He is theauthor and finisher of his faith. During this season,as the world celebrates the Birth of Christ, give en-trance onto the Holy Spirit in order for you to be per-fected in love. In His perfect love there isForgiveness, Peace & Hope.

So the question I pose to you today is this: as theseason approaches, have you truly allowed the HolySpirit to take control and stay rooted in your life; andas He has found a home in your vessel, are you anagent and product of His will? Surrender onto theSpirit of Christ, and it will be a permanent vacationfrom the toils and hurts of this world, and you willbecome an agent of His great will.

As we approach the end of the year, allow the HolySpirit to take you captive on a pilgrimage from theancient days of our captivity, through the “promiseddeliverance from bondage” of our present time; intothe freedom of our future in Christ Jesus. I say“promised deliverance from bondage” of our pres-ent, because many of us have resisted total relin-quishment onto the spirit of Christ, which is the spiritof love and hope, leaving us in a state of captivity, when we should be reigning with Christ. Let theSpirit of Christmas reign in you and through you.

Merry Christmas to you!

Consider the following statements in bibli-cal record: “The creation waits in eagerexpectation for the sons of God to be re-

vealed. For the creation was subjected to frus-tration, not by its own choice, but by the will ofthe one who subjected it, in hope that the cre-ation itself will be liberated from its bondage todecay and brought into the glorious freedom ofthe children of God” (Rom 8:19-21).

In these statements, written by the first centuryKingdom citizen, Paul, it is revealed that govern-

ment affects not only the people of a land but alsothe land and physical environment itself. Gov-erning is serious business. When man rejectedheaven’s government, he became the source ofhis own governing program. The results eversince have proven that we need help. The Cre-ator’s intent was to administrate earth’s govern-ment from Heaven through His image (nature) inman and thus manifest His nature and characteron earth. God’s government is a unique structurethat is yet misunderstood.

I would at this point describe God’s governmentas a corporate kingdom government. Govern-ment by corporate leadership! The theocraticorder of a King over kings as partners in govern-ing! This is what we would call the “Kingdom of

Heaven.” The kingdom government concept isGod’s idea. However, when man rejected heaven’s govern-ment, he had no choice but to accept as an al-ternative the disappointing plethora of humanattempts at government. When the children of Is-rael left the land of Egypt, as recorded in the Ex-odus story, God instructed Moses to advise themthat they would be governed by the laws ofheaven and led by God Himself as their heavenlyKing on earth. This was the first step in God’splan to reinstate the Kingdom of Heaven on earthonce again, using a small nation of slaves as Hisprototype.

In the biblical record of Exodus, God’s intent forthe nation was to be governed by heaven fromheaven and to be an expression of His Kingdomon earth. Israel rejected theocracy, the rule of agracious and loving King who would protect andprovide for them. Instead, they substituted a kingfor the King. Their decision led to calamitous con-sequences.

The kingdom concept originated in the mind ofGod and was the original governing system de-signed for earth. The ideal kingdom concept isunique, distinctive, and provides for the greatestbenefits to its citizens. The ideal kingdom is sucha beautiful idea that only God could have thoughtof it. And it is the only system of governing thatcan bring the peace, equality, and fulfillment thatmankind longs for. I agree that some govern-ments are better than others, but all are inferior toGod’s government—the Kingdom of Heaven.

The Ideal Government

The kingdom concept origi-nated in the mind of God andwas the original governingsystem designed for earth.

The book of Matthew 5:6 says, “Blessed arethey who hunger and thirst after righteous-ness; for they shall be filled.” In today’s

write-up I’d like us to examine this scripture andbe blessed.

What is hunger?Hunger means the feeling of emptiness and theneed to be filled with something, i.e., having astrong desire for something. The human bodygets hungry for food and so does the soul.

What happens when you eat? As soon as we eat,we receive nourishment and the body can con-tinue working.

What is thirst? It is a feeling of dryness within. This feeling is onewhich has to be met, otherwise there will be de-hydration.

What happens when you drink? When you drink, you get relief (Judges 15:18-19)

What is righteousness?Conformity to the law/will of God.

What does it mean to be filled? It means to be saturated.

Therefore, when Jesus says in Matthew 5:6 that,“Blessed are they who hunger and thirst afterrighteousness; for they shall be filled,” He means

blessed are they who have strong / intense desireand deep craving to conform to the law / will ofGod; for they shall be filled (saturated).

Here, we have to take note of what we are ad-monished to be hungry and thirsty for. It must befor righteousness. Whatever you are hungry andthirsty for, that’s what you will be filled with.

One may hunger for:• Money (Ananias and Saphira) Acts 5:1-10)• Understanding of the word of God (Acts 8:26-39)• For the infilling of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:12-14)etc. • To do what is right in God’s sight for people(Neh. 2:17)

As the body naturally has appetites for food anddrink in order to be sustained, so does the soulhave appetite for righteousness as its food anddrink. Of course, there are different types of foodone could feed his body with; but we know thatgood food will bring nourishment and life, whilejunk food will bring harm to the body. In the sameway we could feed the soul with all kinds of stuff, which will lead to destruction, because the foodthat can bless and nourish the soul is righteous-ness.

What does it mean to hunger andthirst after righteousness?• To feel distanced from God’s presence and longfor intimacy with Him• To engage in active war against sin• To be conscious of one’s need for God• To continuously ask oneself, “Am I pleasingGod in my thoughts and deeds or am I pleasingmen and society?” (Ps. 24:4)

Hunger & Thirst

The nature of your hungerand thirst will determine howfar you will go to get what youwant in Christ.

The most important message I can ever share withpeople is that God loves them and has good plansfor them through life in Christ. We all need to havea revelation about God’s love for us, because untilwe do, we’ll struggle to have true, lasting love, joyand peace in our everyday lives. The world is full ofwounded, heartbroken people, who have been mis-treated or abused in some way. And they’re pre-tending to be okay, desperately hoping other peoplewill think they’ve got it all together.

The truth is, none of us are perfect, and we all gothrough hard times and get hurt by someone orsomething. It’s amazing the things people can do toothers, but it has helped me to understand that hurt-ing people hurt people. And many times when peo-ple abuse others, they are acting out of their ownpain, so it goes on from generation to generation.

But I have good news: If you’ve been hurt in thepast, you don’t have to spend your life being miser-able, angry, bitter, resentful or full of self-pity, hurt-ing others. Through a personal relationship withJesus Christ, you can receive complete healing inyour soul—your mind, will and emotions. God canrestore your life and make you just as if it never hap-pened.

Going Through the Healing ProcessI know what it’s like to hurt so much you don’t think

you can stand it anymore and you don’t have hopefor a better future. For most of my childhood, my fa-ther abused me and I never knew growing up whatit was like to feel safe, secure and loved. As a result,I became an angry, suspicious, critical, judgmentaladult.

When I left home at 18, I thought I was leaving myproblems behind me, but I came to realize therewere many problems in my soul that were left overfrom the abuse in my childhood. I desperatelyneeded the healing love of God to restore my life!

Isaiah 61:1-3 (NKJV) says Jesus came “to preachgood tidings to the poor…to heal the brokenhearted,to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the openingof the prison to those who are bound; to proclaimthe acceptable year of the Lord, and the day ofvengeance of our God; to comfort all whomourn…to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joyfor mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit ofheaviness….”

Thank God for His Word and His promise to healthe brokenhearted, comfort those who mourn, andset the captives free! Now, I’m not going to tell youit’s easy to go through the healing process; it takestime, diligence in studying the Word, and lots ofprayer to walk out the healing that is yours by virtueof the blood of Christ. But as believers in Jesus, wehave the authority of His name to overcome sin andaccess the power of God in our lives so we can ex-perience the promises in His Word.

And the promises of God belong to anyone who isborn again!

Early in our marriage—when Karen and I werestruggling and on the brink of divorce—wewere mentored by, Kerm and Lou Ethel Al-

bertson, an older couple at our church. They hadthe kind of marriage we both longed to have. I wasjealous of their relationship and wanted to knowtheir secret. We went to dinner with them one nightwhen it was clear Karen and I had been fighting.Kerm talked to us about the many fights he and LouEthel had gotten into over the years, down to the in-timate details of their arguments. He admitted hisown stubbornness, disillusionment, times of prideand arrogance and sin. I was stunned. How couldhe talk so openly about his struggles? He was un-

guarded and transparent, with nothing to hide. Icould never imagine being that vulnerable, lettingothers see my flaws and insecurities. (At the time, Ihad plenty.)

Though God had been working in my life to teachme the importance of opening up to others, I strug-gled even to be vulnerable with Karen. But throughKerm and Lou Ethel that night, God showed me thattheir vulnerability with each other was what had keptthem together so many years.

That’s what made their relationship so strong andvibrant. It’s also what gave them such a deep andmeaningful relationship with God as individu-als.Many of us have experienced conviction andbrokenness about our sins and failures. But bro-kenness alone isn’t enough to heal our hurts. God

needs more from us than brokenness: He needs usto come out of hiding. God wants us to remove themasks we wear in order to hide our flaws from oth-ers. He wants us to share our struggles with others, even though that’s such a hard thing to do. Ac-countability is a critical step in the healing process, and vulnerability is an important step toward ac-countability.

Karen and I enjoy a much healthier marriage today. It’s because God called us out of hiding, and weobeyed.

It’s impossible to build a relationship with someonewhen your world is defined by fear, or when youdon’t think you can trust them with your pain. It’s im-possible to feel close to someone when you spendmost of your life pushing them away. A healthy mar-riage requires honesty and openness.

Once Karen and I learned to open up to each otheremotionally, we saw an immediate change in ourrelationship. Brick by brick, God dismantled thewalls we’d built between us. We began seeingthings in each other that we hadn’t seen in years.

I realized I could trust Karen with my most painfulthoughts and emotions. The deeper I let her in, thecloser we became. Eventually we learned to shareour struggles with other couples, too. We foundfreedom and healing…and as we shared our ownstory, it began to help others find healing, too.

If you’ve never allowed yourself to experience thefreedom of letting your spouse see the real you, doso today. Give your spouse access to mostwounded, painful parts of yourself. You’ll find heal-ing, and your marriage will thank you

As a leader your Character is private, but not per-sonal. A leader must abide by a set of morals andethical values with strong convictions such thatno matter what comes your way, you don’t haveto sacrifice your convictions on the altar of con-venience or compromise.

Character is the most powerful force a leader canpossess. It protects his life, his leadership, and

his legacy; and manifests who he is, and who hewill become. You can transform your world today by leadingwith true character.
