WAYS TO TRAIN THE NEEDLE SHAPE!

Needle kicks are done on every event! Static with holds and pulls, ballistic in a

row, with tubing, with weights. You should see the needle turn over skills.

If you do not see needle you will see the chest down and the body bent in half. Not good!

It turns over cartwheels, round offs, handsprings, and all aerials skills!

Use the slider for all kicking skills and you

FLAT HIPS IN ALL BASICS SKILLS!

Use sliders: on knees slide out to flat hips and pull back up.

Side cartwheel to handstand and hold with flat hips. Do against a wall so they can touch their hips.

Then go square to center flat hip hold and square landing.

Do glide shape with sliders, use wedge mat at bars and train the long shape to pike legs into bar.

Handstand in a split (middle of back walkover and back handspring) and step down with hips

LONG PUSH UP SHAPE! Do on ground, between mats, between

boards Do with walks, hops and sliders. Pull in the

push up shape, start in pike and walk out to push up and them pull the legs back into pike.

Do with skills: handstand, cartwheels, round offs, back walkovers and back handsprings. So the gymnast does a snap into and long push up shape on a 8 inch

A LUNGE IS ONLY TO FINISH SKILLS!

TO MUCH LUNGING DESTROYS BEAM TUMBLING!

To much lunging make the gymnast buckle on beam, floor and vault!

They must know how to step and snap down out of skills with straight legs. Which is not being done enough!

Do handstand step down on one foot flat and on toe! The hips should be square and flat so the back leg is low not high!

Then it turns into punching straight leg on toe!

BASIC SKILLS BETWEEN MATS AND UP ONTO MATS!

Do cartwheel, back walkover, and front walkover between mats!

Do all the root skills up onto panel mats or 8 inch mat.

Do all skills one arm! Then take the one arm up onto mats! Then the root skills go over panel mats.

Walkovers, cartwheel, round off and back handsprings.

All skills also go to a handstand with legs together then in a split that fits the skill.

A CORRECT BRIDGE! A bridge is with the heel under hips! Not

straight out in front! There should be basic use of a bridge done

right: push up into a bridge, walk and hop in a bridge, back bend and up (two and one leg) and tick tock.

If a gymnast can not do these (not a lot just one right!) the basic skill will be messed up!
